Located 5 miles west of La Farge, Wisconsin in the heart of the Kickapoo Valley is lodging by the day or week on a 300 acre beef ranch. At all times of the year there is a population ranging from 50-300 head of cows and calves. The bunkhouse is a renovated 100 year old two story farmhouse with 2 baths and 5 bedrooms. It sits atop a high ridge overlooking the Kickapoo Valley below. It's located only a few miles from the Kickapoo Valley Reserve and borders the Mississippi Valley Conservatory. It is not a luxury rental, rather a clean, old farmstead in a beautiful ranch surroundings. If you are looking for a reasonable place to stay while you enjoy the rural atmosphere, this could be the place for you! It is fully furnished and available for a small or large group.

Have a clean place to stay while you tap the resources of the area. Hunting, trout fishing, bicycling, snowmobiling, skiing, horseback riding, kayaking, outdoor activities are all available in the area. Simply bring your own food and beverages. Sit out in the backyard and enjoy the scenery while grilling out on outdoor grill or around an open campfire. Firewood will be provided. All linens, cooking utensils, kitchen and eating materials, stove, refrigerator, towels, housekeeping materials are provided. TV and DVD for movies and internet with free WiFi as of March 24th, 2017. A lot of peace and quiet. Fine restaurants, all denomination churches, hospitals are close.

Great relaxing stay!

Janice was very flexible with check in. I loved learning about the history of the house and her family. Such a sweet host. Quiet area to stay with beautiful scenery and wildlife galore. It reminded me of my grandparents houses growing up.

Great relaxing, quiet stay

Although we only stayed two nights we were very pleased with our Vrbo choice. The property is a 100-year old farmhouse, literally right "on the farm." The house is spacious, super clean and comfortable. Janis is a very pleasant host; communicative and responsive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Kayaking the Kickapoo

Janis met us and checked in to make sure everything was ok. Views are amazing. The property was just as described. We enjoyed gathering around the dining room table, in the living room and the firepit. The house was charming.

Driftless weekend

What a delight! Janis is a wonderful host, met us at the property and showed us all around. The location is ideal - minutes from the Kickapoo Reserve, and down the road from Viroqua. The house is a lovely old farmhouse with beautiful wood details, comfortable furniture, fully equipped kitchen, and beautiful views.

Amazing Stay!

Couldnt have asked for a better place to stay. The property is exactly as described and has amazing views of the surrounding countryside. The house is beautiful, clean, and full of history. Janice was a wonderful host and was quick and courteous with all communication. She was so sweet and made sure our stay was perfect. We will definitely look to stay here again when visiting the area.

A little bit of heaven

Peace, quiet, and relaxation in the bunk house! Our hosts were so kind and accommodating and the house had everything we needed. The nearby reserve has amazing hiking. We had an amazing trip with our three boys and our dog and we will be back!

Looking for some space

We loved the rolling, expansive farmland. It made for some really long, exciting sledding runs for me and the kids. Brent and Janis were very kind and gracious hosts.

Charming Farm House

Our stay at the Bar W Bunkhouse was wonderful. It's a Great Farm House with lots of charm and an awesome view. The Hosts were very attentive to our needs and everything was extremely clean. Although it was only my husband and myself, we are thinking about a future visit for our family reunion since the 5 bedrooms will work perfectly. We stayed there during the winter but the location is perfect for a summer get away since it's near many summer activities.

A perfect Driftless getaway

We had the best time staying at the Bunkhouse. Janice was on top of all details and was a great communicator before and during our stay. The house was perfect for our needs and we really enjoyed sitting around the firepit in the evenings enjoying the view, the stars, the cows, coyote howls & each other. A great central spot for day visits to Kickapoo Valley Reserve, Wildcat Mountain and other area stops. We would love to return soon and will definitely recommend to friends!

Just the peaceful getaway with beautiful views we needed

From start to finish the stay here was AMAZING. We loved all of the personal touches and my 8 and 12 year old will forever cherish the UTV tour of the farm. Hosts with the most!!!! Cannot wait to enjoy the beautiful drive to this peaceful retreat again very soon. Thank you for opening the bunk house to guests.

Excellent and relax and stay!My wife and I greatly enjoyed our stay. It is very interesting to be staying on a beef cattle ranch. The owners were very gracious and very good with communication. The setting is in the country and very laid-back. We enjoyed the Kickapoo Valley area. Enjoyed hiking at wildcat Mountain State Park. Very interesting to see the Amish country.

Perfect for a family with a dog

Great home base for family driftless adventures. If the moon and clouds cooperate, nice view of the southern sky. Clean. Comfortable beds. Friendly, helpful hosts. Practical, no frills, reasonably priced. 20Mbps internet.

Summers Final Family fling

My Family had a great time at the Bar and Ranch. The farm house was very charming and the hosts were accommodating and informative. Even the cows made us feel welcome. The country side is breathtaking. There was plenty of room for all 10 of us, including the two dogs. We're already planning our next trip. Thank-you Brent and Janis!
