Close by is Smailholm Tower, often visited in his childhood by Sir Walter Scott. The Borders are famous for historical abbeys, ancient castles, magnificent country estates, walking, biking, fishing and shooting. The cottage is also only an hour or so away from Edinburgh and just a little further from Glasgow.
