Property owners are great/responsive, the local property management/maintenance is somewhat lacking and the cleaning service needs to be stepped up. I don't want to catalogue a list of minor issues here as it seems unfairly negative on what was a generally pleasant stay.
Hermosa is great, by the way, and this villa is priced very fairly for the area. The beach is excellent and not terribly crowded, and the bar/restaurants on the beach are good. The kitchen in the villa "works", so you can avoid the overpriced services in the resort for breakfast... Trust me, you can make toast/coffee on vacation.
There's an overpriced laundry service across the street, but you're better off to use the one in CoCo (no accessible machines on site). The Lupron market across the street is much better than the convenience store on site, but the Auto Mercado in CoCo is way better than both. Watch the speed bumps. The cheapest local beer is "Bohemia" - serve it with a squeeze of lime and an ice cube (it's hot here) and you won't taste the difference from Corona, which costs double. You'll want to buy soap, as it's not provided, although the shower has lots of hot water.
The Internet service doesn't work well, maybe 128kbps, so ok for email, maybe some web browsing. Your kids will go nuts. It's faster for a bit if you reset the router, so it's a line problem and the ISP needs to check it. You can get GSM phone cards from the national carrier (Kolbi) in CoCo near the Auto Mercado ... It's about 4000 colonies for 2gb of data and the cell service is very good (4G). You need an unlocked phone with a sim card that you can use as a hotspot. We used it for Apple TV. The other carriers don't work well in Guanacaste so don't buy those.
The AC works great but the ceiling fans are hit or miss. If you're the sort that turns the AC off there are no screens on any windows (typical here) so you'll be uncomfortable.
Villa 33, Just you and Me!
Everything you think you may need for a week away from home is here. Even arrived to paper towel ,toilet paper, ice, garbage bags, dish soap. We unpacked and began enjoying immediately. Very nice unit. Cleaning staff kept it fresh. Would definitely recommend it.
Villa at Playa Hermosa
This compact 2 bedroom villa is a short walk from the resort registration office. Shuttles run every 15 minutes or so to access the pools, beach, viewpoints and resort amenities as it is a very large and very hilly property. The villa would suit one couple or a couple with a child as space and storage is limited. The beach is amazing, the water clear, and the choice of waterfront eateries wonderful. The villa's main living room/kitchen is bright with windows on three sides and an adjacent patio/porch. Appliances are dated, it lacks a toaster, and space for food storage is limited. A plus is being able to drink the water from the tap. Maid service twice a week to sweep and change towels etc is a bonus. The beds are very hard. The quietness we expected was marred by a neighbour's construction but that should be finished by now. As we were there to experience the area before taking an extensive tour of the country it provided a good beginning.
