Step inside and you’ll see that this cottage gives serious cozy vibes but has more than enough room for the whole family or group of friends. Gather the gang on the expansive sectional couch for movie night on the Roku-equipped TV or steal a quiet moment on one of the rockers under the covered patio with a ceiling fan. There is so much about this home to love and its proximity to the attractions of Crystal River means it is a great home base from which to explore the area. All the conveniences you crave in a vacation home are right here, like WIFI, a washer and dryer, and central AC.

Whether stepping out for a quiet cup of coffee on the covered patio or gathering around the fire pit, this cottage offers some nice options for being outside. It has a spacious private 1-acre lot and plenty of seating to enjoy the fresh salt air and Florida sunshine. There is a cozy covered patio with two rockers under a ceiling fan, a privacy curtain, and a gas grill. The other option for outdoor seating is a paver and gravel patio with seating for eight and a fire pit. The house’s large lot is edged with trees for a private feeling.

Crystal River is one of those rare places that can only be found in Florida and one of the only places in the world where you can swim with the stately manatees. While there is plenty to keep you busy no matter what your interests are, the area around Crystal River is first and foremost a nature-lovers paradise.

Head to Three Sisters’ Springs within the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge and explore the boardwalk trails that overlook the springs where manatees make their winter home. Hiking, cycling, and wildlife viewing are all popular activities here.

To get in the water with the manatees, by swimming or paddling, access a public boat ramp at King’s Bay Park or Hunter Springs Park. Many tour operators in the area offer a chance to snorkel among these beautiful creatures under the supervision of a professional guide or lead glass-bottom kayak tours.

For a day at the beach, Fort Island Gulf Beach is 20 minutes from Crystal River, with a sandy beach, fishing pier, and grassy picnic spot. Dolphins are often spotted in the water in this area. Boat rentals are available to get closer to the majestic marine mammals.

The arts abound in this town, and many artists get their inspiration from the local beauty. Visit Franklin Anderson Gallery to bring a souvenir of Crystal River home with you. Art and crafts from local artisans are highlighted, which often focus on the flora and fauna of the area.

Or make your very own masterpiece while sipping wine or beer at Paint the Town Citrus (named after Citrus County, where Crystal River is located) in classes taught by professional artists.

For history buffs, check out Crystal River Archeological State Park for a peek into the lives of the indigenous people of the area. Here you will find Native American burial grounds, a museum, and coastal marshland, which is home to many species of birds.

Be a part of a local tradition and charter a boat to go scalloping in the clear Gulf waters from July to September. It couldn’t be easier to don some fins and a mask and snorkel and go hunting for these Gulf Coast delicacies. Many tour operators offer charters and know where the scalloping hot spots are.

When you come to Crystal River, be sure to come hungry because there is so much food to sample. You would expect there to be phenomenal seafood and there absolutely is.

Try out Seafood Seller and Cafe for a come-as-you-are atmosphere and delicious local fare. Dan’s Clam Stand in Homosassa is another unpretentious locals’ favorite slinging clams, shrimp, and lobster, focusing more on New England-style dishes.

For an unforgettable diner-style breakfast, venture out to the Biscuit Barn, which serves everything from country-fried steak to pancakes and scrambled eggs.

Slightly more upscale, Vintage on 5th in downtown Crystal River will make steak lovers happy and wine aficionados swoon with their large wine selection.

For casual waterfront dining, and impossibly fresh fish tacos and shrimp burgers, head down to Wild Sassa Food Trailer on the historic Homosassa waterfront for the views and the food.

When in the mood for shopping, look no further than Heritage Village, a quick 8-minute drive from the cottage in downtown Crystal River. Visit this charming shopping area consisting of unique boutique stores in historical houses and cottages with a welcome center where you can pick up a map.

Clothing, art, home decor, and souvenirs can be found here. When searching for the perfect gift or souvenir, RSVP Market fits the bill with unique local crafts and whimsical home goods. For the ultimate in beach wear, head to Salty Girls Beach Shop. They not only stock items like t-shirts and swimsuits but also interesting souvenirs and local food products like honey and BBQ sauce.
