What is special about your town?
As wikipedia notes, Mashpee /'mæ?pi/ is a town in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States, on Cape Cod. The population was 15,060 as of 2020.[1] The town is the site of the headquarters and most members of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, one of two federally recognized Wampanoag groups.
As part the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' mission to support the creation, management, and dissemination of cultural heritage materials, we acknowledge Indigenous Peoples as the traditional stewards of the land, and the enduring relationship that exists between them and their traditional territories. We honor and respect the many diverse indigenous people connected to this land on which we gather, and our acknowledgement is one action we can take to correct the stories and practices that erase Indigenous People's history and culture.
