Hosted by Flying Squirrel Cottages. Magnificent views this fantastic vacation cottage on beautiful Lake Hickory is nestled in a quiet cove that is perfect for swimming and water sports such as kayaking and paddle boarding. Tons of outdoor space!
Inside you will find:

We are an owner-managed house, and everything you’ll experience here was made with love! Feel free to contact us using the rental app messaging function for questions. While you won’t see us in person, we’re happy to be of assistance. Thank you for choosing our property to enjoy your vacation!

Our home is situated in a quiet neighborhood. Neighbors are all established and respectful, please help us keep good relationships with them by being respectful about noise levels, etc.

Minutes from a boat rental company that can cater all sizes of marine craft. A couple of kayaks will be provided for daytime adventure, the coves have calm waters for beginner adventurists. Swimming right off the dock is always an option as well.

Paddleboard sessions are available as well.

Riverbend Park is within a 15 minute commute with beautiful walking trails that wind in and out of the trees through open fields and next to Lake Hickory. Within a 30 minute drive we have Rocky Face Park which has 6 miles of moderate to strenuous trails.

Winery's, Breweries, and Distilleries are popular attractions within a short distance.

Lake Hickory while picking up in popularity is still mostly natural landscape with beautiful views.



We have a keyless checkin system with a 4 digit code.

It includes parking space for at least 4 vehicles.

Our home is nestled in a quiet cove.
We have 2 exterior cameras that are only accessed if security concerns arise. They focus on the front door and back yard. The focal points do not touch screened areas or interior in order to maintain the privacy of our guests.
This cottage is one of those small cottages that has been added to as the family has grown. So the layout may seem a bit quirky but we think, like us, you will find the additions fun, especially the 2nd level and game room. It is not a fancy place to stay but a good place to make memories.

Our property is situated on the water so please watch young children closely and stay aware when near the water's edge

Beautiful property

We rented this home for my son’s wedding. The groomsmen and dates stayed here. The house was large enough for them to all be comfortable and close enough to Hickory for the wedding. The game room was a big hit. Had it been warmer and they had more time, they would have taken advantage of the lakefront. The hosts were so attentive to make sure our stay was comfortable and stress free. Highly recommend this home and Flying Squirrel!

The place was very roomy for 7 adults and 2 small dogs. Plenty of plates/utensils. Also plenty of dining spaces both inside/outside. Needed more clothes hangers and dressers or shelfs. Even went kayaking (Sept. 10-14) Would go their again.

The house and space for us was really good, especially the game room for our teenagers. We had some issues with the smart tvs that took awhile but our stay was good and the description of it being a lake house that has been added on to over the years was good. The little beach was perfect for our youngest and for those who were watching her. I am sure had the weather been warmer. Labor Day this year was unseasonably cool) we would have used the tiki bar more. The deck off the game room was great for the evenings and the grill and patio Table were good as well. For us older folks a few more lamps might have been good but again, that did not hinder our good time. The whole house was clean and the kitchen had everything we wanted. Thanks for a good weekend

Beautiful lake house BUT I caution elderly, disabled or visually impaired individuals before booking. The bathrooms on the main floor are not handicap accessible. But most importantly there are 2 places in the home that the floor level changes and blends in with the floor. We had several falls, one resulting in a pulled muscle of one of the elderly men who was in our group. This is a wonderful lake retreat for the average traveler, with no complaints. But I wish I’d have read reviews from others explaining the challenges that we found.

Loved it !

We truly enjoyed our stay here. The house was more than adequately stocked. We truly appreciated being able to use the kayaks. There were toys for the kids. The extras like the highchair and jumper were a huge help for our grand daughter !!!

Nice little lake house

Great house for the price. Obviously it’s a older home which was to be expected. We brought our own boat. The driveway, dock, and boathouse made it super accommodating. The bar area

Awesome family home

We had such a great time , the house was roomy and spacious, inside and out. It gave our kids lots of things to do and a lot of family quality time and wonderful memories, we will definitely be back again, we loved it .

Awesome outdoor space

The outdoor bar was very nice and inviting. The beach part of the lake was also great! I love that this house had several areas for outdoor entertainment. The property has a super sweet cat named Bucket that hangs around, she was another highlight of the house! The photos and price of the home did raise expectations and once we arrived I felt the home was a bit run down. However, the house was well equipped and the game room was updated and very enjoyable! The home being dog friendly was an absolute selling point! Overall, it was a great trip.

Sleepless at Lake Hickory

It did have a lot of space to hang out in and gather. It was very dated but pretty clean. Was very accommodating of our fur babies and did have a good view. But did not sleep well at all on those beds, very uncomfortable. They needed to change their air filter...we all woke up with soar throats and stuffy noses. Couldn't use paddle boat because it was full of water, there wasn't a gas grill , just charcoal...it was a good rental for the off season price...but would not rent this for full price in the full season... I rate this rental as okay..

Good for family or group vacatio

The home is well set up for a group, including a great game room, access to the lake, and conveniently located. It could be cleaner, but acceptable on that front.
