When I first arrived at East Liscombe the narrow lane and old cob and stone buildings were an impressive experience. Parts of East Liscombe are going back to the middle ages: old beams, some fancy ceiling work and the thick walls of the Devon Longhouse could tell many stories. However, we do not know the history of the farm. At some stage it must have been a wealthy property, as the large two story barn adjacent to the walled yard is enormous and houses an old threshing machine that is built in on the upper floor. The round house at the back explains how this was driven in the old days. From this the age of the barn can be determined as around 1900. One day I hope I find out more.
