Summary:
This is a homely, well-equipped property located in Barnstaple: close to the River Taw and some of North Devon's best beaches. Inside, you will find everything you need for a comfortable stay and there is a tranquil garden to enjoy on lovely sunny days. There are a number of welcoming touches throughout: find house plants, artwork and good quality linen. Its quiet location, homely features and idyllic garden make this the perfect spot for a relaxing weekend away by the North Devon coast!
The Space:
The front door leads into the living room with two modern sofas, an electric fire and a TV. The kitchen next door is equipped with everything you should need: there's an electric oven/hob, blender, microwave, kettle, toaster and washing machine.
Upstairs, there is ample space for four adult guests to spread out and unwind. Both rooms have double beds (though one is a small double), as well as plenty of storage so you can unpack your clothes and feel right at home. Both rooms share a family bathroom equipped with a shower and bath.
To the rear of the house there is a conservatory, which is flooded with natural light and has a farmhouse dining table that seats four. From here, you can step out through the sliding doors and into the pretty garden, which has been maintained to a superb standard. You will find a set of table and chairs to enjoy breakfasts in the sun, a barbecue for the warmer months, as well as secure storage in the shed for bikes.
Free parking on the driveway. Well behaved dogs are welcome with a fee of £20/dog (max 2). It is on the condition they are not allowed on the soft furnishings or in the bedrooms.
Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the whole property, as well as to the secure garden and shed where bikes and surfboards can be stored.
The Neighborhood:
The house is located on a quiet street in Roundswell, Barnstaple. The area is surrounded by playing fields and countryside, so you can expect plenty of peace and quiet. That said, you are also conveniently located to the town where you will find a handful of shops and Sainsburys supermarket. Barnstaple town centre is around 5 minutes away by car, here you will find the train station as well as a large ASDA superstore .
Barnstaple is situated close to the beautiful River Taw and some of North Devon's best beaches. Saunton Sands is just 20 minutes away by car, whilst Croyde and Woolacombe are a little further. Saunton Sands is simply superb, with a huge expanse of beach and sparkling blue waters. It is excellent for surfing, body boarding and swimming with lifeguards on duty. There is a café and surf hire shop behind the beach. Croyde and Woolacombe are equally as lovely, and there are a handful of pubs, restaurants and shops in the area.
Westward Ho! Beach is just 15 minutes away by car, and provides a gorgeous day out on the beach. Again, this is lifeguarded all year round so it is safe for swimming. Appledore is a historic fishing village just south of Westward Ho!. It is just 16 minutes away and is a lovely day out: wander through winding narrow streets and admire colourful houses! In summer, you can take the seasonal ferry over to the neighbouring Instow for a day trip. For those keen on boat trips, we would also recommend taking the boat to Lundy Island from Ilfracombe or Bideford. This is a fantastic day out spotting wildlife and enjoying the remote island.
The Tarka Trail is one of the gems of North Devon. The entirely traffic-free 32 mile cycle trail runs from Braunton to Meeth in North Devon. The flat and family-friendly trail travels through beautiful countryside, offering stunning views across the estuaries of the River Taw and Torridge with many picnic spots, cafes and pubs along the route. You will be able to hire bikes from Barnstaple or Braunton.
Getting Around:
Due to the remote nature of Barnstaple, we would recommend you bringing a vehicle for your stay. There is ample space for 2-3 cars on the driveway.
That said, there is a train station in Barnstaple with regular trains running to and from Exeter St Davids. There are hourly trains from Exeter St Davids to Cornwall, Bristol, Reading and London Paddington. The station is 8 minutes away in the car or 30 minutes by foot.
Other Things to Note:
Please note the double bed in the second bedroom is slightly smaller than a double bed (4’ rather than 4’6).
Interaction with Guests:
We will be available via message, email and phone during your stay. Any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch!
