We chose this location due to its proximity to the Sugar Mountain Ski Lodge. Although there is a walking path to the lodge, it’s not an easy or short one especially if you have ski gear, so we only did it once. The drive was just a few minutes so very convenient especially if one of us didn’t ski and could just drop the skiers off. Although the directions to the unit are confusing and consist of a lot of tight turns, it’s still a quick drive into the towns of Sugar Mnt & Banner Elk (they’re basically one town since they’re so close) where there are some nice restaurant choices and the grocery store. The unit itself is definitely tight for 4 people and is very dated. In its day, we’re sure it was amazing, but it’s time for some major renovations. Once you fold the couch out, you have the large coffee table to contend with in an already small space. We ended up just leaving the couch bed open the entire time and used the coffee table for overflow from the bathroom (makeup, etc) since there’s not much counter space in the bathroom. There also wasn’t a single washcloth for the bathroom and only 4 towels. Only 1 towel each might be an issue for other people, but was fine with us. The washing machine and dryer work really well. The carpets may just be stained from people tracking in snow, etc, and not necessarily dirty, but we were sure to keep our shoes on regardless because they looked really gross. At the very least they need new carpets or a deep cleaning. There are a lot of stairs leading into the unit and several of them are in a tight, narrow space so be aware if anyone in your group may have issues with this. Our communication to the management company leading up to the trip was excellent but was pretty much non-existent once we arrived. We informed them immediately that someone had left clothes in the dresser and that we found a ring under the couch with no response. Then the gas fireplace (which we LOVED on our first day) quit working on day 2 with no response either. Honestly, it wasn’t the end of the world but we were disappointed. We did finally hear from someone who apologized and said they were just so busy because of the Christmas holiday (we were there for a few days and checked out Xmas morning). The sliding glass door was almost impossible to open and wouldn’t lock. Overall the unit worked well for our family of 4 and the location was perfect, but if we go again we’d look for a more updated, slightly larger unit
