Nestled in the heart of Chester County, the Brandywine Lodge is a colonial and Victorian-themed farmhouse, just minutes from local Amish farms, the Brandywine River, Longwood Gardens, and various local historic sites. Take your stay to the next level by attending one of our offered classes on traditional skills. We offer classes in home canning, sourdough making, plant propagation, kefir, kombucha, and painting. Class lengths and prices are included below. Since classes are offered by availability only, please check with us while booking to make sure the class you'd like to take is offered! Learn together as a family or dress up in our re-enactment attire for an unforgettable family photo!
The Lodge was recently renovated and carefully staged to transport you back in time to the 1800s, while still offering the modern conveniences. Our kitchen is fully stocked with a coffee maker and Keurig, blender, toaster, and microwave. You are welcome to use the washer/dryer at no additional cost. There is also a dedicated workspace with an ethernet plugin, making it a perfect location for remote work or longer stays.
Feed the chickens! The Lodge is attached to a larger working farm where we make our own poultry feed. You can feed the chickens or try your hand at fishing in our fenced pond.

CLASSES:
(There is a two night minimum stay requirement in order to book classes at the Brandywine Lodge.)
PAINTING: Enjoy a painting party with your group led by a professional local artist. Sample paintings can be seen on the listing photos. Each participant will take home their own painting. Class length is 2+ hours. Cost is $100 for 4 people; $20 for each additional person up to 8 people. Supplies are included in the cost.
SOURDOUGH MAKING: Learn how to care for your starter, make and design a basic loaf, and bake artisan sourdough bread. Take home your own small loaf and container of starter to start your own sourdough journey. Class length is approximately 90 minutes. Cost is $100 for 4 people; $20 for each additional person up to 8 people. Supplies are included in the cost.
KOMBUCHA MAKING: Enjoy a demonstration of how to prepare kombucha, a kombucha tasting contest, and leave with your own bottle of homemade kombucha. Class length is approximately 45 minutes. Cost is $50 for 4 people; $8 for each additional person up to 8 people. Supplies are included in the cost.
PLANT PROPAGATION: Make plants from plants! Propagating is fun and teaches you how to root cuttings of established plants so that you can grown your own plants without starting from seed. Learn the difference between hardwood, semi-hardwood, and softwood cuttings. Make your own propagation bed and leave with the beginnings of beautiful landscape shrubs or trees for future years. Cost is $50 for 4 people; $10 for each additional person up to 8 people. Supplies are included in the cost.
