We looked for property for years before we stumbled upon “The Forty” as we called it. It was surrounded by pasture land with no homes in sight and we had to cut in the ½ mile driveway and run power and gas lines to the house. Today, we still use the long driveway and wake to the neighboring rancher’s cattle mewing. The view to of Pikes Peak is still unobstructed, and we now have the benefit of having the upscale neighborhood of Kings Deer and the Kings Deer Golf Course nearby.
When we were designing the House on Bluebird Ridge, we hit a wall. The architects kept coming back with traditional houses that felt like everybody else’s house. “Dining room on the right, living room on the left, family room to the back next to the kitchen, bedrooms upstairs.” While those are lovely features in a home, we realized that we left our traditional home almost every weekend and headed for the mountains to find a lodge like rental that made us feel close to nature, relaxed and stress free. BINGO….So we built one of our own and stopped leaving every weekend. We soon found that we were more relaxed coming home to “our home” then we were going on weekend trips to the mountains.
It was an out of the box idea, but we built our vacation dream home to live in everyday. It has been wonderful. Close to town and only 5 minutes to the grocery store and restaurants, wide open spaces and 360 degree views, wildlife and a very special Colorado Lodge Style home. The 27 foot post and beam constructed Great Room with a dramatic stone-faced wood burning fireplace is open to the oversized gourmet kitchen, formal and informal dining areas, and is the “heart of the home”. The house is designed so you can see out the front and back of the house from most every room and adds to the open airy feeling.
The Colorado Sky is amazing and with our high perch we can see the sky and horizon in every direction insuring beautifully sunrises, sunsets and spectacular lightning shows.
