My family of 6 plus 2 grandparents stayed here for a week in the summer of 2014 and had a fantastic time. The house was clean and appeared to be freshly painted throughout. Pictures on VRBO are accurate. Because the house takes advantage of both indoor and outdoor space so well, we enjoyed a holiday together while all feeling like we had plenty of our own space to unwind whenever we needed it.
We typically did mornings at the beach which is 3.5 block away and then came back for lunch. In years past (at other rentals), we would have packed back up after lunch and gone back to the beach, but the bay was so delightful (and at least 5 degrees warmer than the ocean!) that most afternoons the kids wanted to stay at the house and swim off the floating dock. The floating dock is really big and the owner has umbrellas available so adults can sit in shade while the kids (and adults) swim. Not sure how deep the water is, but I'm over 6 feet and never touched the bottom so you should take care to make sure children who aren't strong swimmers wear life jackets.
We also enjoyed exploring Stone Harbor by water using the canoe which came with the rental (if you go out of the bay into the channel we suggest paddling against the current for the beginning of your trip so that the tide helps you when you are tired on the way home)! But the highlight for my 7 year old was checking the crab trap which we tied to the end of the dock. For about $20.00 we bought one on Amazon that had two tapered funnels where crabs climb in but can get out, and boy was it a huge hit; baited with (raw) chicken legs, it produced a few blue claw crabs every day!
After a full day of beach and bay fun we usually had dinner on the outside porch and then made the nightly pilgrimage into town so the kids could have ice cream at Springer's! The best part was, it was an easy walk. Actually, other than the dreaded trip to the ACME for groceries, we could walk everywhere from this house and almost never used the car.
Stuff to bring that we found helpful... your own linens (they aren't provided), boogie boards (for bay and beach fun), bikes and bike locks (there were a few older bikes but we preferred our own), flip flops (the sand can get hot!), folding beach chairs and towels, and a red wagon to transport sand toys and little kids. If you own a kayak bring it, but the canoe that is included is really nice too. And of course, don't forget the crab trap!
