The Casal São João Cottages is a typical Madeiran stone house located in the west of the Madeira Island in Fajã da Ovelha - Calheta, about 58 km from the airport of Santa Cruz and 42 km from the city of Funchal. This construction is dated from the year of 1930 and composed by 6 independent apartments. The apartment 102 is a duplex equipped, ground floor with kitchenette, dining room and sofa bed and upper floor composed 2 single beds and bathroom. It's available in the shared social area one jacuzzi with natural water, gym, solarium, barbecue. In a perfect and quiet place with excellent exposure across the sea ideal for yoga, bird watching and astronomy.

It’s recommended to use car so you can explore the various attractions, not only in the locality as well as other area attractions. Nature turism and hiking ("Levadas") are one of the strengths of this region and Fajã da Ovelha is part of many hiking routes. Less than 2 km you will find mini-market or restaurant. The nearest beach is in Paul do Mar, about 8 km away. In the center of Calheta, about 15 km you will find all the facilities and services offered by supermarkets, pharmacys, banks, medical center, traditional shops, restaurants, hairdressers, sandy beach and promenade.

Avoid. Hard pass. Do not book. Etc.

Just skip this place, not worth it. Joao is not an unfriendly guy on the phone and he's flexible, but the place is damp and dirty. Not enough bedlinen and towels provided, took two days to deliver. Entry of property hard to find. WiFi only in one spot on the property (the shared activity room) for one device at a time. Frogs singing all night in a pond on the property, loudly (I liked it, but can be annoying). The jacuzzi is empty and dirty. Madeira is amazing though, absolutely go there. Nice fresh food. We met tons of genuinely nice locals, cool travelers and internationals who settled there and my god, the landscape, flora and fauna is absolutely stunning.

À éviter

Pas d'eau chaude pendant tout notre séjour malgré nos réclamations au propriétaire du gîte et des cafards . Tous les équipements sont vieux et mal entretenus . Location de la voiture au propriétaire du gîte chère pour une voiture en très mauvais état et pas assez puissante pour les routes de Madère .

Unseriös

Ich finde es unseriös von FeWo Direkt, dass der Vermieter 2 Tage nach abgeschlossener, bezahlter Buchung einfach 60 Euro mehr verlangen kann, per Zahlungsaufforderung. Die FeWo war einmal sehr schön, mit Liebe angelegt mit sehr schöner Aussicht aber leider sehr ungepflegt! Für drei Personen ein Messer, zwei Gabeln, keine Salatschüssel, nur zwei Kopfkissen. Das Geschirr musste ich vor Benutzung erstmal spülen. Der Vermieter hat 2 Tage gebraucht um die gewünschten Gegenstände zu bringen. Wifi hat nicht funktioniert, der auf den Bildern angekündigte Whirlpool war nicht in Betrieb.

Les plus beaux couché de ☀️

J'ai eu beaucoup de difficultés pour trouver l'adresse exacte car il ne se voit pas depuis la route. Il faut descendre un escalier et continuer le chemin pour voir le numéro. D'autres occupants ont eu le même souci. Personne n'est sur place pour nous accueillir c'est dommage car tout serait plus simple. Joao et son fils ont réussi à me guider par téléphone. La maison comprenant plusieurs appartements ils m'ont attribué un appartement ne correspondent pas du tout à l'annonce. Finalement, tout s'est assez vite arrangé et le séjour (9 jours) s'est bien passé. C'est un endroit bénéficiant d'une vue magnifique ! Les équipements sont très très vieillots et mériteraient d'être remplacés. Une ancienne piscine sur la terrasse sert de réservoir d'eau et de mare aux grenouilles, le jacuzzi ne fonctionne pas et la salle commune est assez sale, c'est dommage.

Schlechte Betreuung vor Ort

Sehr schön gelegene Anlage. Das Appartement war sehr sehr einfach eingerichtet und die WC-Spülung funktionierte nicht, auch nach einem Tag trotz mehrfacher Reklamation. Als Nichtraucher hatten wir kein Feuerzeug oder Streichhölzer, die wir für das Kochen mit dem Gasherd gebraucht hätten. Da keine Besserung suchten wir ab dem dritten Tag eine neue Bleibe

lovely sunset

Great place to watch the sunset from a shared deck while having dinner. Double check if the jacuzzi is in working condition, it was off due to covid measures during my stay. wifi was not available as described, however there was signal for vodafone data. The host sends you GPS coordinates to find the location in a welcome message. If you are driving uphill to reach what looks like a shed at the GPS cooridnates, walk back downhill a few meters to find stairs going down towards the house.

Vacances parfaites!

Nous avons passé de superbe vacances, la location qui est encore plus belle que sur les photos, le cadre idyllique et l'accueil du propriétaire ont tout simplement rendus notre séjour inoubliable.

location charmante , calme, vue imprenable

Satisfaite de mon séjour mais déçue à l'arrivée : le duplex prévu n'était pas prêt , le ménage pas fait . En échange , on me proposait un studio a l'arrière de la maison sans intérêt ! J'ai donc choisi de faire moins même le ménage pour m'installer dans le duplex prévu ................Ce problème réglé le séjour a été très agréable .
