The Host Vik was incredibly courteous and quick to reply both before and during our stay. He gave us some great recommendations for activities in the area beyond just the National Park. We were clearly informed about available amenities and we packed accordingly. We were able to cook every meal during our 2 day 2 night stay right in the Wolf House Kitchen. Vik warned us that the house might be hot when we get there but there was ample cooling. A built in AC unit in the dining room, a high powered portable cooler in the sleeping space, another built in AC unit in the front room and two fans in the front room. The place was perfectly chilly in just about half an hour. Unfortunately, the Watch Tower seen in the listing pictures that we were looking forward to was missing, i.e. fully dismantled. I almost didn’t recognize the house driving up to it. It doesn’t take much away from the experience since you can still see a large swathe of sky from the backyard. The night sky was absolutely incredible, we were so far away from any houses or lit up buildings. However, the surrounding area had several stray dogs that kept circling the property while we were sitting around the fire pit. I had to bring my dog inside since a couple of the dogs looked quite aggressive. We were safe behind the fence but it’s definitely something to be cautious about if your dog doesn’t do well with other dogs and/ or strays. We also always kept the gate locked as recommended. I would also not recommend burning the provided lumber next the the fire pit. It gave off a terrible smell and made our eyes burn. The wood also had nails and such left in it. Luckily, Vik had suggested bringing our own firewood as well so we ended up just using that. The yard also had a fair amount of pet waste left behind by previous guests who didn’t clean up after their pets. There was dry dog poop in places and even cat litter dumped right in the yard. This was unfortunate as this was clearly an issue caused by previous guests and Vik couldn’t have done much about it. All in all, the Wolf House is great value for the price and it pays to inform yourself about what to expect. We had a great time in Joshua Tree and this was a perfectly suitable place to stay. We are definitely considering booking this property again for another trip to this area.
