Our weekend stay was peaceful but unsettling. When we first arrived, we walked through the entire cabin to get the lay of the land, so to speak. Right off the bat, we noticed a used towel in one of the baths, as well as a gob of hair in the shower drain. To be honest, if we were staying at a hotel, we'd have asked for a different room, or moved onto a different hotel. With VRBO, it doesn't quite work that way. I reached out to the owner, and she was quick to reply with an apology. Unfortunately, our minds were not completely at ease after that. I constantly wondered what else was left uncleanded after the last guest.
Beyond that, there were dead moths along the baseboard in one of the bedrooms, There were child toys scattered everywhere, and the main door to the cabin had a very finicky door lock. The key was on a zip string next to the door, and you'd have to jiggle the handle side to side to get it to lock/unlock. Awkward.
Then, there were two gates around the small entry deck. Both of which has gate latches with the screws about to come out. Again, jiggle with it and it was good.
For the security deposit, the nightly rental, and the quite high cleaning charge, I severally doubt I'd stay in the place again. For a two night stay, we could have stayed at a very nice hotel in another mountain town, and would not have had to deal with a ran down property and still have to pay for the cleaning on top of the nightly rate.
The views were nice, and the mountain air was much needed - the positives from our stay, but I'd guess you'd get that from many other mountain cabins in the Rockies.
The owner graciously refunded 10% of our nightly stay rate because of the cleaning snafu. Unfortunately, it was far less than the charged cleaning fee that we had to pay.
