Terrible / Avoid !!

Location is great however completely run down hotel / apartment for derelicts who seem to live there full time. Dirty hallways, dirty rooms. Loud aircon, smell of smoke, dogs barking. Cheap furniture and it feels like it. 10am check out to top it all off. Terrible hotel and Oaks HQ should be ashamed.

Outdated furniture but near train station

Stay was outdated but have full equipped utensils for cooking. The place is few hundred metres from museum station & near to some of the places of interests like St. Mary, Hyde park, Australian museum. It’s quite spacious for 2 but the bathroom keep sipping water out from the tub make toilet wet after shower.

Comfortable bed, worst bathroom/shower facility

Good thing about this hotel is it has very comfortable bed, bedding alone is like 5 star quality. I had real wonderful sleep but their bathroom/shower is horrible. Water is literally drizzling and water temperature is either too hot or too cold. At one stage I couldn't even turn the tap off I had to call the reception to ask someone to come up to turn off the water! They do need to update their bathroom badly I was hating having shower there, it's a real big minus. Also their WiFi system sucks only 30 mins free WiFi per day, this day and age I think they should provide free wifi - even if it means increase the rate. I loved rooftop pool area with fantastic Sydney Hyde park views. Service was good.

Extremely convenient

Conveniently located in the city, it is really easy to get to any place of your choice by train or bus. Being close to Hyde Park and the Botanical Gardens, you would also have access to wide space for relaxation or a jog in the city.

Felt Disadvantaged

The evening that I arrived was a day after the Mardi Gras - 3 March 2013. The room allocated to me was on the 2nd floor room 204 facing the main road, air condition was not working and rather in a run down shape. I asked at the receptionist for another room but was told there was none available but she would leave a message for the morning staff to do the room switch. I suffered one night of sleepless sleep amidst the traffic noise and no air condition. I do believe I was disadvantaged and felt bullied, perhaps because I was Asian. Could you convey this to the management?

Great location, hotel needs updating

When we first checked into the hotel we were rather dismayed by the dated appearance of the hotel and the serviced apartment. It can definitely do with bit of sprucing up. The service was fine but bare-bones, don't except any bell-boy or luggage services. Everything is pretty much DIY. That said, the apartment was clean and spacious, and the kitchen was very useful. After three nights there, it did feel a bit like a home! Location was fantastic as well, we were able to walk everywhere. It's smack in the middle of Surrey Hills and we were able to get to Darling Harbour, Sydney Opera House and even King's Cross on foot. Just ignore the much fancier Pullman next-door and you'll feel better about this hotel.

Tricky one to review, I booked at their lowest rate for the NYE in Sydney well in advance so can not complain about the room to much, we were up on the 15th floor with a balcony which had a breath taking view over Hyde Park, the room itself and floor in general looks a bit run down and could do with a renovation, the room was a strange shape and again could do with some renovation, the bed was smallish but probably all that would fit in the bedroom space, there was little space on one side of the bed, it had the amenities you would expect though, where the room won me over was the view from the balcony, breathtaking 180 degree view of Sydney and Hyde Park which was great to wake up to every morning and seeing lit up every night, overall room was so so, view was fantastic

The location was excellent. The room was basic, but large and clean enough. The price we paid for it's location was very reasonable. We loved the pool, hot tub and sauna. Just a few minor issues - no toiletries in the room, no remote control for the tv and not enough towels. All easily rectified by the staff when we notified them, but would have been good if the room had been properly stocked on arrival. Would definitely stay here again despite the minor issues.

Property looked old and tired. Not worth the price we paid for it. Bed was uncomfortable. Shower was poor. Air conditioning was loud. Lift was small old & slow. Having a lift pass and room key was annoying.
