Comfortable b&b in Horrabridge Devon

Enjoyable 3 night stay. Friendly welcome. Given information for b&b and the local area. Useful knowledge of places to eat. Room clean and comfortable. Excellent power shower. We only required a continental breakfast which was more than adequate. I succumbed to scrambled eggs on last morning- for me - perfect. Would certainly recommend it and stay again if we visited the area again.

A homely B&B

The room was well equipped, a little homely for me as I’m more used to hotel stays however it was a pleasant stop over in a small village. Breakfast was locally sourced and very good. It was quiet and I had a good nights sleep. A good internet connection. The hostess was very friendly and knowledgable about the local area.

Nice peaceful place to stay

In normal weather this would be a comfortable room to stay in but with the high temperatures it was quite difficult to sleep even though a fan had been provided. Good place to stay if you want a lovely cooked breakfast.

It was a beautiful room, but we couldn’t check in until 5, so we decided to eat on the way, and then had a phone call to say owner was going shopping! So we wouldn’t be able to get in until after 7.15 pm. luckily she had changed her mind when we arrived but we anticipated sitting in the car for half an hour waiting, we had specifically booked to attend a party in the village so it was a nuisance. But the room was really lovely, though the shower was faulty and difficult to use. I wouldn’t go there again, but I guess I visited on an off day.

A mixed review...

We stayed here as we were attending a wedding in Tavistock. As we were travelling down from Manchester we called ahead to ask if there was any way we could check in early to get ready for the wedding - not an unreasonable request. We were met with a pretty rude response from a gentleman asking exactly what time we would be there as they had to go out! As we were travelling 300 miles, we could only provide an estimate! Once we arrived at the guest house, fearing the worst, we were met by the lady owner who was extremely polite and accommodating... if only she'd picked up the phone! The room was small but perfectly functional with excellent tea, coffee and water facilities. The room didnt have any air conditioning (nor did we expect it) and as the weather was extremely warm, the room soon became stuffy. Breakfast was only served between 07:30 and 08:30, which even for a guesthouse is tight, however the food was very good and the service was excellent.

Lovely building in a wonderful quiet setting

Had a terrific time walking over the moors and finding wild ponies and sheep during our long walks.

Wonderfully welcoming and full of character

We stayed in the self contained self catering part of the Old School House, there are also a number of rooms in a part of the building for B&B . The place is amazing. It is a brilliant conversion of an old building into modern accommodation that doesn't lower any of its charm. The inside is immaculate with fully equipped lounge & kitchen, and 2 roomy bedrooms. Basically it really feels like a home for your stay, not just a temporary lodging. Only slight issue is phone signal and WiFi, both of which can be a bit flaky, but when you see the walls of the building you can understand why! The School House is on the edge of some lovely scenery, and there are great walks in the area. Just a couple of minutes stroll to the very small centre of Horrabridge but in a car you're only 10 mins away from much bigger places if you want to stock up or want to try other things. Being right on the edge of Dartmoor means you can drive to unspoilt nature easily and walk as far you can manage. But be warned… some of the roads are badly single lane tracks, so if you're not a confident driver, stick to main routes only! Finally I must say that Maxine who owns the place is brilliant. So welcoming and friendly, and genuinely seems to be interested in your holiday plans and will offer any and every idea possible to help you enjoy the area. Is easy to understand why they get so many repeat visitors - I hope to be one too!

Great breakfasts, perfect night of sleep

Nice place, hosts can't do enough for you and as professional caterers the food is excellent, and locally sourced. WiFi is not a strong point here but they do make that clear when you arrive. We had little bathroom down a small corridor but they provided bathrobes so that was fine, and it was private to us. Nice place!

Quiet and comfortable

Our room was comfortable and quiet. Breakfasts were good. As we had a car, the location wasn't a problem. The hostess was friendly.
