InTheBluff - Galiano's Oceanside Log House

Located on Active Pass, the spectacular marine passage separating Galiano and Mayne islands, InTheBluff - Galiano’s Oceanside Log House offers one of the most stunning outlooks in the Southern Gulf Islands. The area is known for its strong currents, often turbulent waters and array of wildlife - look out to eagles soaring, seals, sea lions and otters frolicking in the swirling currents and orca whales in their natural element. Even humpback whales pass by regularly. We very much appreciate and encourage land-based whale watching.

InTheBluff is a very unique and wonderful escape, an artisan log home atop an oceanfront cliff and amongst over 6 private acres characterized by Garry oaks, Arbutus, Douglas fir and Cedar trees. The beautiful log home has all the modern amenities one could desire, including Wi/Fi & HD (antenna/smart)TV. Two bedrooms (each with queen size beds) offer comfort and separation. The master is upstairs with a private balcony overlooking Active Pass. InTheBluff very comfortably accommodates up to four.

The decks are stunning. It is difficult to imagine a more beautiful spot to lounge, watching eagles soar, and just maybe, orcas pass.

InTheBluff’s kitchen is well equipped, featuring an old style Heartland country stove and oven, microwave, toaster oven, and dishwasher. Cuddle in the living room by the Tulikivi (soap stone) wood burning fireplace, lounge on one of the the decks with a good book and enjoy some evening Netflix in the comfortable TV loft.

For the avid nature explorers, reaching the gorgeous ¼ mile long beach below is particularly convenient as the Matthews Point Beach Access trail is immediately adjacent. This is just the beginning though as the Matthews Point Regional Park Reserve, essentially an extension of InTheBluff, connects directly with Bluffs Park with its array of trials and vistas. Mt. Galiano is also linked by an evolving island trail system - remember your water, good hiking shoes and camera!

InTheBluff is a non-smoking, no pet retreat. We consider ourselves an un-official sanctuary for all local wildlife, most particularly deer and a huge array of birds. The property is perfectly situated for some of the best hikes the Gulf Islands have to offer or for just sitting back, breathing the fresh island air and taking in the stunning views any time of the year.

When reviewing our availability, please keep in mind that we are a full house rental, so our minimum stay is three nights (average is five to ten nights), and we do not accept bookings with single nights left between stays.

Staycation

Amazing location to get lost from busy life. The whole island is full of places to explore. The Cabin itself is on a huge forested lot, overlooking the ocean and its own path to a secluded beach. We will be back.

Beyond expectations

This is definitely one of the nicest locations in the area. Sitting right where the two ferries meet is spectacular. Lots of deer and eagles, the log cabin is beautifully furnished and very comfortable. Definitely worth visiting again and again.

You do not need to worry about the weather when staying in this gem. Cozy inside and a hot tub outside. Lovely and absolutely enjoyable stay. Inside stairs are steep so if you have bad knees or older family member there is a bedroom on main living floor

Heaven on the Hill

Beautiful log home on bluff overlooking Active Pass. Loved sitting on the deck watching the water and clouds.Georgeous little beach below the property. Numerous hikes nearby. The Hosts were the best and even met us at the property to give us a tour! Don’t have enough stars for this property.

Most beautiful place we've ever rented!!

Our post-wedding stay here was absolutely magical! The cabin itself is beautiful and the view overlooking Active Pass is absolutely stunning. The place was super private with an abundance of friendly wildlife coming to say hi each day. We loved that there was a short walk down to a really nice beach that was pretty much private as most of the time we were the only ones there. And the infinity hot tub at sunset is so nice! On top of all this, Lawrence and Janusz were super friendly, accommodating, and helpful and definitely went above and beyond as hosts :) If you're coming to Galiano and InTheBluff is available then we'd highly recommend booking it!

Gorgeous cabin with a truly stunning view

In The Bluff has the best view of the Active Pass I have ever seen- you will be transfixed from the moment you get there until you leave. Added to that, Lawrence and Janusz have created a well-appointed, thoughtfully designed and beautifully decorated place. It is so comfortable and inviting, you will never want to leave. We had a chance to meet Lawrence and Janusz, who were friendly, welcoming and full of local knowledge. Thank you for letting us see in 2020 from your little slice of paradise.

Galiano Oasis

We had a wonderful stay at Lawrence and Janusz’s lovely log house In the Bluff. The house is perched high above the water overlooking Active Pass. The view is absolutely breathtaking. The deck, hot tub and inside of the house, captures this amazing view from every angle. The outside and inside furniture is very comfortable and tasteful. L & J have thought of everything to make your stay there deluxe. We loved our time there and look forward to returning. Thank you to Lawrence and Janusz for sharing your piece of paradise with us and for being such gracious hosts!

Best way to unwind!

Spent three nights here in absolute heaven. Needed an escape from Seattle craziness. Very easy to get there. The owner is AMAZING and answers very promptly any questions and even sends you alerts when whales are nearby! We barely left the property. Just relaxed and enjoyed the incredible views and nature. Such a tranquil and happy place to relax. Even with rain in the first 24 hours it was so peaceful and enjoyable. Not much on the island but frankly you don’t need to leave the house! Highly highly highly recommend!!

An amazing weekend away

My wife and I rented this amazing property for the weekend and we’re absolutely blown away. If anything the pictures in the listing don’t do justice to just how beautiful the property and view are. That alone would have been enough for a great weekend, but the hosts went above and beyond preparing the property to be comfortable and easy to use. There was plenty of wood for the fire, every kitchen convenience we could think of, and they even had binoculars to watch the wild life in the bay. There’s all sort flattering things I can say about how well the property is prepared for you to have the perfect weekend, but I’ll just extend my sincere thanks to the hosts for sharing this wonderful experience with us. We’ll definitely be back again if we can!

Spectacular in every way

This is an incredible property. The beautiful log cabin is situated high on the cliff overlooking Active Pass. It is so private, you will see the local deer pass by, but that is it. The home has everything you could ever use, very well stocked, spotlessly clean with a beautiful stone fireplace for those cooler nights. This is the best place for sitting down and enjoying a book. So peaceful. There are several sun decks, (beautifully built and so nice on the feet), that you can sit out on watching all the activity below - BC ferries, fishing boats, pods of killer whales, eagles soaring - it goes on and on. Always something to enjoy. Full exposure for those sunny days. Great walk down to Matthew’s Beach; the trail from the cabin gets you there in less than 10 mins. Incredible sandy beach at low tide. The hot tub is excellent with a glass of wine later at night. Never seen an infinitely edge hot tub before but it maximizes your view. We have visited this property several times - our #1 special occasion vacation spot, if we can get in. The Owners are first class, communication is clear and timely. They know the island very well and can recommend so many outings. Highly recommended.

Amazing experience!

It doesn’t get any better than this!! Lawrence and Janusz are wonderful, they do everything they can to make your stay the best it can be! The cabin is stunning and they have thought of everything! There was ice made, fire built and music playing to welcome us on arrival! Kitchen was great, we cooked all dinners there ( has the best view in town) Then there’s the view! It is mind blowing! Pics don’t do it Justice! Tons of wildlife and we were even lucky enough to see a pod of orcas go by! This place is truly magical! Sturdies bay is wonderful too. A couple of little grocery stores with a good selection as well as alcohol. We also got take out from the black flying dog and babes in the woods pizza, both were excellent! The Sturdies bay cafe for coffee, sweet and savoury treats is also a must!! It is amazing there and the staff is wonderful! This was the best vacation ever!! Can’t wait to go back! Thank you Lawrence and Janusz!!!

Exceeded our already high expectations

We can't express enough how much we enjoyed this property and the whole process from booking to communication with the owners before, during and after. Perfectly situated for a peaceful view of the active pass. Well thought out orientation of the home inside and out. Deer wandering through all the time, checking out the activity. Super happy to hear that, for now, this is still allowed to continue to be available.

Beautiful house and views

The property is gorgeous. The views and location of the house were perfect. Lots to explore around the island or stay in the hot tub and watch the boats sail by. Communication with Lawrence and Janusz could not have been better. We recommend this property and hope to be back!

Although my husband has family on Galiano and we have visited and stayed at the island many times, In The Bluff offered a serene change of pace for us. This beautiful log cabin offered the simplicity and beauty that my husband and I needed. Feeling reconnected and rejuvenated after our little vacation and definitely plan on returning annually.

Amazing stay!!!

Communication with the cabin owner was lovely. The cabin is magical and incredibly relaxing. Sitting in the hot tub at sunset was amazing. We didnt see any whales passing by but we did see an incredible eagle show our last morning. We will definitely be back!

Amazing!

This home is the most amazing place, and we would give it 6/5, for sure, if we could. Communication was prompt, and pleasant. The place was spotless, the home has every comfort, and the location is second to none. Watching the deer, the eagles, the ferries below, while relaxing in the hot tub put us in such a calm state, it was hard to leave on our last day. Thank you so much, we will be back!

Amazing Views!

We had an amazing stay at this beautiful home. The house was cozy, well appointed and very clean. We felt like we were at home with all of comforts and special touches throughout the home. The views are incredible and the hot tub was amazing...sitting and watching the ferries go by was wonderful. We can’t wait to be back!
