We booked Samantha and James' "Olive Tree" apartment to enjoy the peace of a countryside refuge from which to explore the fascinating region that surrounds Carcassonne. We made a great choice. Highly responsive and personable hosts. Lots of local recommendations. Spotless accommodations. Comfortable beds. A well equipped kitchen and access to a large, very private, resort style pool. This is a large property located alongside the Canal Midi on the edge of the tiny village of Marseillette. A beautiful setting. We had an amazing week. Thanks Sam! Thanks James!

Everything we needed was there. Nice beds, good, crisp bedding and nice pillows. Hot powerful shower. Very pet friendly place. James and Sam were very approachable if we had any questions. Perfect place to stay for house hunting in the area.Will definitely return.

What a lovely comfortable gite. We arrived in 40 degrees temperatures but the gite was lovely and cool. The air conditioning was a must. A lovely clean swimming pool was great after a day site seeing. Arriving and leaving was made very easy by the lovely hosts. The kitchen was fully equipped. Very clear instructions for recycling. It is very central for Carcassonne and many other locations. We left feeling very refreshed.

Great Place to Stay

Very enjoyable week staying in Olive Tree. Gite, garden and pool were all excellent with friendly and helpful owners. Good location, with Carcassonne a short drive away, vineyards nearby and hills to the north and south. We would definitely like to return.

Excellent property

We really enjoyed our stay. Property was brilliant, especially liked the outside area for our own personal use, and lovely swimming pool. Hosts very welcoming and helpful, they have thought of everything- amazing attention to detail! Excellent location. Would highly recommend.

Well equipped and clean

The place is clean & very well-equipped. Nice patio space as well. Pool was great. Enjoyed pizza night by the hosts as well. Tons of space outdoors if you’ve got children who need to run off steam. Lots to see in the surrounding area.

Excellent accommodation - tastefully furnished & well equipped. Our friendly hosts were able to guide us regarding possible activities and cycle routes in the area which was very useful as we were only staying 4 nights.

Gite was exactly as described and spotlessly clean. Lovely area around the property with Canal Du Midi just a few steps from the house. The Olive Tree overlooks garden so is very peaceful and quiet. Swimming pool was superb and the owners took great care keeping it clean and inviting. I would not hesitate in recommending this gite.

Lovely relaxing stay, wish it could have been for longer. Adrian and Ann-Marie are super hosts. The gite was clean and comfortable and well furnished with everything we needed. The outside deck was perfect for meals and relaxing in the afternoons/evenings after visiting local villages. And the pool was warm and a great size - we often had it all to ourselves. Would highly recommend.

Very dog friendly

It’s a really lovely place to stay, excellent hosts and a large garden with a large pool. It was ideal for us as we took our 2 dogs. Being right on the Canal de Midi it was ideally placed for dog walks, cycling etc. The local bar is a10 minute walk away and we used it regularly. There are plenty of restaurants within a short drive. We can highly recommend and will be returning

It was a pleasure to have you stay for 2 weeks. Inkie made two good friends with your dogs. The Bar is very popular especially since the new owners at the beginning of the year. Good for cycling!

Great location by the Canal du Midi, which has a cycle route alongside. We cycled in both directions, and another day took the bikes by car to cycle further away. Also good access to Carcassonne and supermarkets by car. Comfortable gite, looks just like the photos. Enough kitchen equipment and a three-ring induction hob for eating in. Good-sized fridge and freezer. Despite being quite windy during our stay we still managed to use the table tennis table and the pool. Quiet and relaxing place to stay.

Thank you for your lovely comments. We are in a great location for people exploring by bike. There is so much to see and the bike is a great way to spend time in the beautiful countryside. It is a shame the large storm was passing through Europe during some of your stay. At least France did not suffer with the terrible rainfall of Austria, Germany and Poland. Great for couples

This is our 2nd stay and our new hosts Sam and James were great. We had our two dogs with us and they were made very welcome. The pool is wonderful especially on a really hot day. James held a pizza ngt for both Gites and they were excellent especially with the carafe of wine that you could order with itThe only negative is that at this time there is no air conditioning but James assures me this will be done next yearThe Canal De Midi is right outside the front of the house and is great for walking, biking and boating. Marseillette is a small town with one bar, so a car is definitely needed to get about Can highly recommend staying with Sam and James

Olive Tree

Lovely setting in an idyllic village beside the canal. Carcassonne and the beaches near Narbonne, are easily accessible on excellent roads. The village is quite tranquil, with a little shop open part of the day and a busy cafe serving good food throughout. There is a wide choice of supermarkets with the nearest just a few miles away and more than adequate. The house is tastefully furnished and has everything you could possibly require. The grounds are wide, well tended and ideal for relaxing in with plenty of high standard garden furniture. The pool is immaculate.

We had a wonderful stay at Olive Tree and a really great overall experience. The house is ideal for a family of four: very comfortable, cosy and well equipped, with everything you need to cook and feel at home, including all the necessary kitchen utensils. The house was spotless, and despite the very cold weather outside, it was warm and welcoming inside.The garden is absolutely spectacular, a real highlight of the property, and our daughters enjoyed it so much. The ping-pong table was also a fantastic addition and gave us some great family moments. Although we didn’t use the pool as it was winter, it looked very spacious and in excellent condition.Samantha and James are lovely hosts, very kind and easy to communicate with. The surroundings are beautiful, with views over the canal, and the location is excellent, very well connected to Carcassonne.Without a doubt, it was a great choice and a place we would happily return to for a family holiday.

Tranquil spot for new parents and baby

We have a 4 month old daughter and spent a week at olive cottage in late September. The location is ideal if you have a baby as its near the airport but still quiet and peaceful. We really liked being next to the canal as you can go straight out for walks on the towpaths with the buggy and little one loved the watching the ducks being fed and adults enjoyed watching the boats navigate the canal. The cottage is well equipped and Pauline and Ken provided a travel cot for baby along with plenty of advice on the local area. We had a lovely week and would definitely go back again - late autumn was just right temperature wise as well, enough sun for us but not too hot for baby. Mark, Fran and Isabel.

It was great to have Mark, Fran & Isobel stay with us and shows the flexibility of our property for all ages. The Canal du Midi certainly offers plenty of entertainment watching the boats sail by and causing havoc in the lock outside the house. It emphasises that this is a beautiful region to visit all year round and not just in summer. The autumn colours in the vines are spectacular. I know they appreciated the closeness to Carcassonne and not having to travel too far to visit the villages and also enjoying a day at the beach. Hope to see you them back again.

Lovely little cottage in a great setting

Olive Tree Cottage lives up to its description. It is clean and well cared-for with everything you need for a short break. The swimming pool was fabulous and we enjoyed swimming even in mid-October. The outdoor table tennis was great fun. Anne Marie and Adrian are good, discreet hosts. The setting on the canal du midi is lovely and there are nice views from the garden. We visited Carcassonne and the coast around Perpignan during our stay. The village has an excellent boulangerie but was quiet when we were there outside peak season. There were three adults on our trip and we had all we needed. The shower is brilliant! The cottage is excellent value for money and just as described in the advert.

We again had lovely weather in the Autumn which allowed Lucille, Ewan and Mairi to explore the area and enjoy the swimming pool at the end of the day.

Lovely stay

We stayed for two weeks at the end of June in Olive Tree. The property was very clean and had all the equipment you need. The outside decking area is a sun trap all day long but if you need shade then the covered area is ideal. The pool and sunbathing area were very clean with plenty of sun loungers. Marseillette is a quiet village with only one bar/restaurant but there is a pizza van, burger van and curry delivery on certain days of the week. The supermarket in Capendu nearby is about a five to ten minute drive away. Other supermarkets are in Trebes which is about fifteen minutes by car. You can drive to Carcassone centre within twenty five minutes and there are even larger supermarkets nearby. Overall, we had a lovely stay and Adrian and Ann-Marie were very good hosts who both suggested places of interest and were available if needed. We would recommend the gite to anyone looking for a quiet place to stay with lovely walks on your doorstep up and down the Canal du Midi.

Nous avons passé de superbes vacances dans le gîte l’olive tree. James et sa famille ont été très accueillants et de bons conseils pour les visites à faire dans les environs. Le gîte est très bien équipé et confortable, notre chien y était accepté, ce qui est un plus. Les extérieurs sont très agréables, notamment le grand jardin, la piscine partagée et la terrasse du gîte équipée d’une table de ping pong très appréciée des enfants. L’emplacement est idéal pour rayonner dans la région. Petit plus : l’accès direct au canal du midi avec une écluse juste devant le domaine, toujours impressionnant à observer avec les enfants et les soirées pizzas (excellentes) proposées une fois par semaine. Nous reviendrons avec plaisir pour un futur séjour.
