Mendocino's Historic McCloud House Headland Views on the Edge of the Village

Stay in a piece of history in this 1880 nostalgic home on the edge of the town of Mendocino, offering amazing white water views and stunning sunsets. Enjoy the sights and soothing sounds of the waves while relaxing on the sun porch with a good book or take a short walk to access the 340 scenic acres of the Mendocino Headlands State Park and Big River Beach. The living room offers another area to cozy up in front of the crackling fireplace and enjoy those amazing views. Upstairs there are three bedrooms, (2 queens, 1 twin room) all with ocean views. (Queen sleeper sofa located in living room.) The bright kitchen is open to the dining area and includes a peninsula that can be used for eating, playing games or supervising the chef. If you don't feel like cooking, the seaside village of Mendocino is just a short walk away and offers charming restaurants, unique boutiques, galleries specializing in local art, and lively entertainment. Mendocino's McCloud House is the perfect setting to create Mendocino memories that will last a lifetime.

This year, we were treated to night after night of spectacular sunsets over the ocean.

Excellent communication from host on every aspect! Checking in/out, things to do in the area, things to know about the house, etc. Kitchen was well equipped and we appreciated the hand soaps & kleenex in many rooms. Nice towels, comfortable beds, blankets on the sofas for cuddling, bbq, car port was helpful in the rain, ample seating in each room. A great stay!

Great little rental

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Myself and my little dog had a great weekend at McLoud House.The lights were on and the house was warm when I arrived. There was plenty space and great to have 2 sitting rooms. We used the front room with the open fire. Having a basket to carry the fire would and a bucket for the ashes would have been perfect.It’s a great location, although you do need a car to get to the headlands as there are no sidewalks and it is a narrow road. Great views from the front of the house and a private garden and parking to enjoy. I would recommend taking a torch if you have a dog as it is VERY dark at night!Highly recommend this property.

Relaxing stay, comfortable and cozy, stunning views

We loved how comfortable the house was, somehow both big and cozy. Lots of room for every one. Beautiful art and stunningly views! The kind of place that feeds the soul.

Great stay!

The property was charming and homey. It was nice to hear the waves crashing at night and the crackling, cozy fireplace. Our bed was comfy. We liked the location too, just outside of town but easy access. The management company was easy and responsive. We enjoyed our stay, thank you!

Gorgeous Location

Wonderful spot on planet earth. Views from all rooms of the ocean, even while it rained. Breathtaking sunsets. And they let us bring our dogs. Nice fireplace and the local radio station KOZT made everything groovy. We went to the Harvest Market the first night and bought hot clam chowder and sourdough for dinner. The next night we has fresh dungeness crab. Mendo baby.

Wonderful Property!

This was our second stay at this property. It is a very charming historic house with amazing views of the ocean from most all of the rooms. The cozy parlor is a perfect place to pass an afternoon reading a book or playing a game by the fire. The house is very convenient to the grocery store at the end of the street, the beach and to the town of Mendocino.

Another Great Stay

It is a good home base for all of our activities in the area. We especially enjoyed evenings by the fire, playing games at the big table in the TV room and sitting in the little sun room enjoying the views and reading.We feel like we are home when we are here.

Our stay at the Mccloud house was wonderful. Everything about the house and area was just as I expected. The beds were cozy, the views were beautiful and the walks into town were fun. Except a couple of things that we found odd was that the stereo system has a turntable BUT not one ( Record/ Vinyl ) to be found in the house. AND! When we went to go try and have some TV time , there are no instructions at all to be found on how to turn on the TV and get it going so we gave up and tried to watch a DVD movie AND! There is only 1 dvd movie in the whole house to watch! ( Casino Royal ) and that was in bad shape too! It was kinda odd we thought. Maybe someone needs to work on that a bit more Hmmmm….But! All in all it was still nice getaway.

Furnishings are very comfortable & were more than adequate to fit our group of 5 adults, all in our 60's or 70's. The stairs are steep, but with prudent caution, can easily be managed by us "old folks"!Would definitely rent this house again.

Easy walk into town (albeit without a sidewalk) and amazing ocean views right from the bedroom. Mendocino weather can be tricky but Saturday was ideal for a day at the beach with an afternoon glass of wine on the porch. What more can you ask for?

Lovely getaway to the bluffs

This home has historic charm and felt like we were staying at grandma’s house. The house is in a nice big lot so you don’t have to worry about neighbors being on top of you. Everything worked as expected and the amenities were perfect for our family of 5 (2 couples and 1parent). It is located within a mile of beautiful downtown Mendocino. The only tiny downside is that Lansing road itself is not very pedestrian friendly so even though the house is close to downtown, it was a bit uncomfortable to walk on the busy road with no shoulder until we were able to reach a side road. Perhaps there is a pedestrian trail behind the house we don’t know about. Other than that, it was a perfect stay!

Great house with a beautiful view

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: My family of five enjoyed our stay at the Mc Cloud House. We arrived late and used the lock box in town to get the keys. Once inside, the home was spotless and filled with wonderful vintage treasures. It was the perfect amount of space for us to spread out and each have a bit of privacy. My kids enjoyed reading on the porch looking out over the water. In the evenings we watched the sunset then cozied upon the couches for games. The house is minutes from town and very convenient to pop in to pick up a meal or go for a morning walk on the headlands. It’s a beautiful home in a great location.

Not quite the right fit for us.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: For whatever it's worth I selected a historic house in Mendocino. The area is beautiful, but the town is overpriced and artsy weird. So the house is kind of like that, and didn't have the amenities I'd prefer. You couldn't open but about 2 windows for a breeze. There were a lot of additional instructions throughout the home which made things less warm and friendly. The whole onboarding process once I completed the sign up through VRBO was cumbersome and absurdly duplicated. All in all this feels more like a place for an eclectic older couple with some sort of toy dog, not really for a family. Don't get me wrong, the house fits the Mendocino vibe, but I've strongly reasoned that I could live without that town. I visited because I had childhood memories of going there, and do not feel the need to return again.
