The Big Red House is perfect for everything from a romantic weekend get-away, or an extended family visit to a long term stay over several weeks. We will do our best to accommodate your travel needs.

This modern rendering of a traditional Newfoundland Salt Box House sits on over an acre of property with amazing ocean views!

You can hike the East Coast trail out the front door and watch whales, icebergs and migratory seabirds (in season) from almost every window. Enjoy the private yard with spacious deck & hammock, or relax in the open concept living area with 11' ceilings and exposed fir beams.

The house is located in historic Torbay, with easy access to downtown St. John's and the airport and only minutes to popular Middle Cove Beach where you can watch the capelin roll and enjoy an evening campfire.

This one of a kind property is the perfect location to experience the rich culture of Newfoundland and for the outdoor enthusiast to discover the Avalon Peninsula's many offerings. For those wanting to continue exploring Newfoundland, this house is about a 2.5 hour drive to Terra Nova National Park and a little over 3 hours to Gander.

The house has 4 bedrooms. The master has a king bed and ensuite, second and third bedrooms have double beds, fourth bedroom has single beds.

Longer term rentals are available during off-peak times.

We came back!

This was our second stay at the Big Red House - it’s home when we visit Newfoundland. Brie is so accommodating, and it was a great spot to bring my three adult daughters. Thank you, thank you !

All we can say is WOW!! This house met all our needs during our stay! Clean, big and had all the amenities we needed plus more! And then there is the view from the master bedroom - nothing can beat it. Location was perfect to get away from the hustle and bustle of St Johns. I would recommend this house to anyone looking for a rental.

I can not say enough good things about this house. Truly a special place. Kitchen is fully equipped for passionate cooks. The views are unbeatable. Watching the dog roll in over the water from so high up was so special. This was a friend trip for us but we kept commenting that we’d love to have our kids there. Will definitely stay again next year.

Perfect spot!

The location of this property is amazing! It is perfectly located to overlook the water and feel surrounded by forest and nature while being close to everything. My family had a great stay while exploring and visiting family in town. Highly recommend this rental!

Big Red House

We really enjoyed our stay ar the Big Red House. It was a great location, private and yet close to everything we wanted to see on our vacation. It is a large house, which was great for our large family to spread out, and relax.

Big Red House was AMAZING

The Big Red House vacation was one of the best vacations we have ever had. Its close proximity to the city and the East Coast Trail was a huge bonus. The BRH was everything it is advertised as and more. I would highly recommend this property and we plan on coming back next year!!!

Amazing stay in such a special spot!

My family stayed here for nearly two weeks. 2 adults and 5 kids ranging from 4-15. Everyone loved this house. It had everything we needed to feel right at home and is in the most beautiful location! Close to all the things you’d want - downtown St. John’s, hikes, and other day trips. We hope to be back next year!

The red house is in a great location. Access to an amazing hiking trail and it has an awesome view of the ocean. Kitchen is easy to work in and there's lots of space! Would definitely recommend for a vacation stay.

The big red house

The house was great, especially for the girls. They loved the play area, as well as the tunnels between the bunkbeds upstairs. I know there were a couple of questions when we had arrived, and the host was very responsive. We very much enjoyed the house and would like to stay there again next year!

Home-away-from home for family visiting Newfoundland

This was the perfect spot for a group with kids: spacious, tons of windows, large property with tons of space for kiddos to play. Surrounded by trees and lulled to sleep by the sounds of the ocean - you could easily forget you're only 15 minutes from everything (downtown, Signal Hill, the Rooms, Bannerman Park, Avalon Mall, etc.) and minutes to beautiful Middle Cove Beach. Also: great accoustics for music/sing-a-longs.

The Big Red House was a 10/10

The BRH is set on a beautiful property with amazing views. Centrally located to beaches, swimming holes, restaurants, St. John’s, Signal Hill and much more. The house is easy to navigate with any direction you might need clearly displayed. The BRH has everything you could need; the hosts thought of it all! Would recommend this property to anyone looking to visit!

The Big Red House is beautiful and was perfect for our family including 3 couples and a 7 month old. Parking for 3 vehicles was convenient. We did a lot of evening cooking and the kitchen is well appointed and large enough to easily accommodate two chefs! Laundry facilities are great. Separate seating areas flanking the kitchen and dining room meant no overcrowding and lots of space to play with the baby - a great selection of children's books and toys is available.The location is fabulous as we headed out daily for sightseeing and hiking. The owner provided helpful info on groceries and restaurants and was super responsive to our queries. She even went out of her way to obtain a feeding chair for the baby. All in all a first class operation.

Big Red DREAM House!

We had such a wonderful stay!! Plenty of space to relax and play. Great facilities and well stocked with day-to-day needs. We had everything we needed -- turnkey ready. Location is fantastic -- oh, the views! Great privacy and so close to so many amenities. A superb 'base-camp' for local and farther afield excursions. Only about 15min. drive to downtown St. John's! We highly recommend the Big Red House nestled in historic and scenic Torbay!

Everything You Could Want

What a great house and tremdous host. I went there with family as my Grandparents had grown up in the area. Brie wrote us ahead of time with suggested restaurants and the house was spotless and perfect ...what a super home and we were priviledged to be their guests. My family had an awesome experience and Brie and the Big Red House made it even better. Thank you !

Big Red House a winner

We travelled to St. John’s for the first time and needed a large enough place to accommodate 8 adults. This place delivered! It is beautiful and spacious and has everything you would ever need. The location in Torbay did not prove to be a challenge to get into St. John’s for most of our activities and in fact showed us another beautiful part of Newfoundland. It is the perfect retreat after a full day of sightseeing and I highly recommend a rest in the hammock!

Spacious and serene

The house had ample space for all 8 of our extended family. Communication with the host was fantastic. The double beds in 2 rooms are against the wall on one side due to built-in storage, and would best be used by one person. 3 of the twin beds are loft beds which are very high and great for young kids or teens. It was very hot up there, put the fan on and close the blinds early.

Wow! What an incredible stay at the Red Big House! From the moment we walked through the door, we felt right at home. The space was beautifully designed, clean, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The attention to detail was exceptional, from the welcome package to the amenities provided. The host was amazing, always available and willing to assist with anything we needed. The location was perfect, too, with stunning views and easy access to nearby attractions. Thank you for making our stay memorable and unforgettable. We will definitely be recommending the Big Red House to all of our friends and family!

Great house, great location

We spent a week at the Big Red House (BRH) and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Brie and the BRH team were very helpful and responsive with lots of proactive communications. The location was fantastic. Easy access to downtown St. John’s (~15 minute drive) and proximity to many of the East Coast Trails - with two sections within easy walking distance. The House itself was amazing. The large treed lot provides complete privacy and the views from the second floor are awe inspiring. We found the house was inviting and comfortable with all the amenities and equipment one would need for an enjoyable stay. We loved our stay and will be back at some point soon… Newfoundland is just too beautiful and the people are soooo friendly.

Beautiful Views!

This home was perfect for our multi family trip to Newfoundland. We had 4 kids (age range from 1-9) and 4 adults and this was truly a once in a lifetime vacation! There were toys for the kids to play with, secret hideouts they loved to explore, and even a soccer field in the backyard! The kids also loved looking for the bunny that visited the backyard each morning. It was about a 15 min drive to St John’s to visit family and go to the regatta and a 5 min walk to the east coast trail. We also loved the nearby Post Taphouse and taking a dip in the ocean at Middle Cove beach. Above all, the best part of the trip was being able to wake up with the sunrise each morning with the most beautiful views of the coast! Brie and the team were great and we would love to return again one day!

The Great Big Red House

We had a fantastic stay at the BRH. All the family came up to celebrate Loretta, the matriarch of the Manning's family. The house was so spacious and fully equipped. Like really, fully equipped from laundry accessibility to every pot and pans you could need, it was there. :) We were pleasantly surprised that there were so many toys for our grand-children. The view from the master bedroom was just stunning. We enjoyed to see the full moon too! We loved our stay at the BRH but we have to mention that Brie and her team went above and beyond to ensure that the place was scent free. This made our stay very safe. Thank you! Linda, Anthony, Jonathan, Justin, Jillian, Charlotte et Henry!
