R-Runaway On the Lake

A charming family cottage with Lake Erie in front for sunrises, and Lake Henry in back for sunsets!!! It is surrounded by the Lighthouse Point Nature Preserve. Fun in the sun, with a beautiful beach 100 yards from the house. Hike the nature trail steps from your door, rent a bike and tour the island, visit the wonderful Pelee Island Winery, or just relax and sit on the deck! Linens are not provided. Please bring your own towels and sheets. Blankets and pillows are on beds. 4 twins and one full size.
There is abundant insect life on the Island, and flies, crickets in the fall!! So bring repellant!! There is some in the laundry room to use and sunscreen, also!
- Washer and dryer available.
- Propane grill.
- Pak-n-Play for babies available. No extra guests allowed. 6 person maximum plus one child under 2.
- Absolutely NO climbing on rocks at front of property as they are unstable due to ice in winter moving them!!!
This is a residential neighborhood and quiet is asked for after 10PM.
The beach is 100 yards to the right out of our driveway and is perfect for a bonfire! Gather driftwood and have fun
There is a Co-Op at the North Dock for groceries and gas, a LCBO, several restaurants, a bakery/deli, Pelee Art Works, an ice cream stand, snack shack, bike rental, paddle board-kayak rentals, and beautiful winery where you can go and spend the afternoon!.

This was our third time visiting this property and it never disappoints. Perfect layout for families, excellent and quiet location near the lighthouse and beaches, clean and equipped with all the amenities you may need. Hope to return again soon!!

Beautiful escape

This property is peaceful, beautiful tidy, and clean. Has eveything you need. Host was amazing. Beautiful lake view front and back, beach close by, and close walk to light house point. Definitely a great stay!

Restful getaway spot

Great spot to get away and unplug from reality. Only down fall is the amount of bugs if your not a fan would not advise. Need to plan accordingly prior to going as things to do is limited but the property is great!

Beautiful weekend on SW Ontario's Little Paradise

Cottage was equipped with all necessities. Plenty of space for the family (5 adults). Island always offer a wide range of activities and it was so nice to come back to a comfortable setting. Views of the lake spectacular. Proximity to beach was so convenient. Overall, very nice and comfortable space. Looking forward to return visit.

Beautiful and relaxing spot. Amazing sunrises and sunsets.

Great location. Private and quiet. Short walk to the beach. Cottage was well equipped. Had amazing mattresses. So comfortable. We appreciated the air-conditioning and fans as were there during the hottest and most humid week of the summer. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need and the large fridge and freezer accommodated all of our food. Terry the property manager was very helpful. It was a great relaxing week.

Great Getaway

Lovely setting at Pelee Island. You can have a beautiful view of Lake Erie and around the other side, a view of Lake Henry. We really enjoyed all the nature we saw. Swans, egrets, herons and so many other birds as well as turtles. I would say the only negative was beach access. We did know we would not have direct access and it was an easy walk to the access point. We are spoiled as in years past we had direct access to the beach. The cottage was great and the large kitchen accommodated our cooking and eating! As long time Pelee visitors, we enjoyed our stay and would get this cottage again! `

Another world

This was our second time staying at this property, and it was just as peaceful as we remembered. The accommodations are spread out as such that you can stay with plenty of people and not feel like youā€™re on top of one another. If the breeze is blowing, the water against the rocks feels like the ocean! Almost like youā€™re in the Caribbean! The property is well appointed. Kitchen has everything you might need. Looking forward to another great stay in the future!!

A wonderful cottage and even more wonderful hosts. The cottage is well maintained with an excellent kitchen. The inside dining area has terrific views of the lake and boasts an efficient electric heater that takes the chill out of the inevitable chilly days that arrive. One of our favourite places to be!!

Perfect location!

We enjoyed our stay on Pelee Island. The sunrises on Lake Erie, and the sunsets on Lake Henry were the highlights of the day. We enjoyed a view of the water from every window of the cottage. The large kitchen was well equipped. The layout of this lovely cottage was perfect for our family, and the sun room was my favourite. The Lighthouse trail is a short walk from the cottage, and the beach is even closer. I am already planning my next stay.

Great location

First trip to Pelee was a great experience. The cottage is a family treasure. We had a great time cycling with rented bikes, hiking the gorgeous scenery and soaking up the island atmosphere. The wetland on one side of the cottage and the lake on the other made for a unique landscape our family thoroughly enjoyed.

Great stay

We rented the cottage for a family vacation and it was a great place with lots of room. The location and view are fantastic and only a short walk to the beach. It was stocked with lots of conveniences like toaster, BBQ and a coffee maker. Check in with Terry was super smooth. The crickets took a bit of getting used to, but I'm sure that's just part of summer on Pelee.

A Wonderful Stay at Runaway on the Lake

Like a year ago, we had a terrific stay at R on the L. Terry, the property manager, is a treat to deal with! The cottage is wonderfully equipped and the kitchen is a dream to work in. The weather was unseasonably cold for days on end but the cottage easily handled the nippiness; an efficient heater in the kitchen, electric heaters in the bedrooms if needed, and warm duvets for the beds. The lake view from the kitchen was astonishing and we spent many hours watching the gale-force winds sweeping the waves high up over the rocks and crashing onto the lawn! Ruth, if you would have us and if it suits your schedule, you could reliably pencil us in for the same time of the year annually (anytime for seven nights from May 6 to the 15th). We absolutely love your place! One note, and this doesn't concern the Runaway property. The immediate neighbours to the north have three large dogs that run loose. Every time we set foot outside, if the dogs were out, they would come charging at us, stop about 10 feet from us with manes bristling, tails raised, growling/barking and in every sense being quite intimidating. This happened while we were barbecuing, walking to the shoreline from the patio, or walking to our car. I finally resorted to carrying a stick when I walked outside. Dogs aren't allowed to run about freely in the neighbourhood where we live, nor should they on Pelee Island. If there had been a police presence on the island, I would have registered a complaint about these irresponsible dog owners.

Very well equipped, washer/dryer nice surprise. Ac worked, lots of crickets inside tried not to step on them may have gotten a few. No problem for us. Caught bass, catfish and sheephead right off the bank. If I ever get to go back will stay here again! Thanks Gene

Great cottage for a family!

Spent 5 nights. We were the only people on the public beach the whole week. Fully equipped kitchen and beautiful view of both the sunrise and sunset.

I loved the cottage , the location ..the island !

Ruth the owner worked with me thru the booking of ferry . ( u should Book ferry if u are bringing a car right away, )booking of cars books up quick.. cottage was wonderful ! Location was awesome .. I will definitely come back ! This was a awesome vacation, great price ..

Fabulous Summer Getaway!

We had a wonderful 5 night stay here! Our family of 5 had tons of space in the cottage...the unique layout made it perfect for our two year old-who still napped in the afternoon! The proximity to the water was beyond excellent...and we were so surprised to see ships go by-it was so cool! We watched the sun rise and set every morning and night, and luckily the weather was beautiful! The island itself had lots to do-trails, shopping, boats to rent...but we honestly spent most of our time just lounging around on the beach which was a hop skip and a jump from the cottage. We had such a relaxing, unplugged week, it had all the comforts of home, but all the seclusion and quietness you would want on a vacation! The only thing missing was somewhere to lounge at the end of the night, or first thing in the morning (other then a bed) to read books or if the weather was bad it would be accommodating to have a couch to watch a movie or something.The two reclining chairs in the living room were great, but with 3 kids and two adults, there was always a fight as to who got to sit where! Overall though-we had an excellent time!! Definitely would recommend this cottage! Thanks Ruth!!!
