When you plan a vacation to another country there's always a level of concern about what you're going to get when you arrive. This whole experience was peace of mind from the beginning. The owner was very responsive in answering questions I had and the caretaker Frank was immediate in assisting us.
The location is excellent. Far enough out of town to not hear traffic, but close enough to walk to restaurants and stores. Being able to open the windows and see the harbor and the boats passing by was incredible. Windows had screens and the layout was perfect to catch the breezes all day, but there is A/C to use when needed. We were able to walk just a few minutes down the road and enjoy some of the best snorkeling on the planet. But when we didn't feel like walking, all we had to do was go down to the security guard and ask him to call us a taxi. It was great! Really liked having a 24 hour security guard. Crime isn't a huge deal on the island. But, having the guard there made us feel a lot better about leaving our belongings there. Also, is a nice safety feature for when you come in at night to not only have the security guard but also very well lit walkways.
You can't rent a car on the island and you can't drink the tap water. So, I was concerned how we were going to get the 5 gallon jugs home so we'd stay sufficiently hydrated. But, it was well arranged for us. Fresh water with an ingenious pump system attached to the jug. When we ran out our trusty security guard brought more to us and took away the old jug for return to the store! (Yes, I left a little spoiled.)
Well laid out kitchen made meal time very easy with a great view from there as well. Even the second bedroom had a beautiful view of a lagoon and Mangroves.
I loved Utila and I loved having a comfortable place with the amenities of Oyster Bed Lagoon. It was just the relaxing place we needed. Looking forward to returning!
