Family Gite in the beautiful Charente Countryside with Pool & BBQ

Full of character, but with all the facilities you need for a relaxing holiday in the French countryside, Le Pressoir is in a very peaceful location in the little hamlet of Chez Blanchet, part of the commune of Courlac. Chez Blanchet is just a few houses, surrounded by fields, with an abundance of wildlife, fields of corn and sunflowers, and some dairy farms.
The area is covered in forests of oak, chestnut, boxwood and pine where many wild animals and birds such as roe deer, pygmy shrews, larks, finches and wild boar can be found. Also 25 different kinds of wild orchids. There are the gorges and rivers of the Sud Charente, lakes and meadows, fortified towns and villages, and wonderful Romanesque churches, many of which made up the historical pilgrims’ trail to Santiago de Compostela.

Courlac sits at the southern edge of the Charente département (county) near to the border with the Dordogne. It has lovely views of the countryside, but you are within an easy drive of many places of interest. This area has something for all ages and tastes, and with beautiful countryside and lovely quiet roads. Nearby villages are full of activity, with places to visit, dine and drink. This part of the Charente has its own micro climate and is second only to the Cote d'Azur in terms of number of sunshine hours.

So, whether you want to relax by the pool and barbecue 'en famille', or kayak / go to nearby river beaches and lakes, horse-ride, cycle or hike, take in the local markets, vineyards of St. Emilion, Cognac and Bordeaux, eat out in beautiful Aubeterre-sur-Dronne (one of France's 100 prettiest villages, with its potteries, and artisan shops), there is something for everyone. Families and friends have plenty of places to enjoy, in and around the house, and in the surrounding area, including a 9 hole golf course and tennis at Longeveau, 10-15 mins drive away. Supermarkets, boulangeries, banks, pharmacy, post-office, and all amenities in Chalais, a 7 minute drive.
