Art and Culture
As you walk through Santurce, you’ll notice that the buildings are adorned with art created by some of the world’s best urban artists and muralists. What began as a beautification effort for old and abandoned buildings has transformed Santurce into the Puerto Rican version of Miami’s Wynwood Arts District. If you’re interested in experiencing the island’s premier venue for plays, concerts, and other cultural events, visit the Luis A. Ferré Center for Fine Arts. An award-winning architectural marvel, this venue hosts the Pablo Casals Festival and, more recently, presented Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway hit, *Hamilton*, when the musical had a special three-week run on the island.


Museums For a truly unique and inspiring gallery experience, visit the Puerto Rico Museum of Art, where, in addition to an extensive art collection, you can enjoy concerts and festivals in its beautiful sculpture gardens. Its sister museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art (also known as MAC), also features mixed-media and multimedia works by local and international artists, with the goal of showcasing multidisciplinary experiences from a Caribbean and Latin American perspective.

Where to Eat
Whether you’re looking for authentic Puerto Rican cuisine, international fare, cutting-edge creations, or fast food, Santurce is the place to go. For some hot street food, try Lote 23, a vibrant culinary oasis filled with locals, music, and delicious food. Nearby is Abracadabra, a fantastic café known for its lunches and occasional live performances. Other local favorites include Café Comunión for its incredible brunch and La Casita Blanca for its varied menu featuring everything from seafood to criollo cuisine (traditional Puerto Rican dishes).

Vianda features an executive chef nominated for the 2019 James Beard Foundation Awards and offers a farm-to-table menu that showcases Puerto Rican agriculture. Gallo Negro offers a sophisticated whiskey bar and an eclectic menu with American, Puerto Rican, Dominican, and Asian influences.

Calle Loíza is an iconic street in Santurce with a variety of dining options, such as Shibō, which blends Asian and Puerto Rican influences; Bocca Osteria Romana, a family-friendly restaurant serving Roman-Italian dishes; and Acapulco, with its urban tacos and authentic Mexican cuisine.

Nightlife
Some of the best places to dance can be found in Santurce. The iconic Placita is a daytime market that turns into a party scene at night. If you’re looking to enjoy live music and concerts of all kinds—from rap to psychedelic rock and heavy metal—stop by La Respuesta.

More live music awaits you at the iconic Esquina Watusi. Known as the “corner for hanging out,” this local hotspot showcases works of art and picturesque murals alongside plena performances and other types of live music. For a more traditional night out, stop by La Terraza de Bonanza, where pleneros and bomberos perform week after week on a small terrace, so you can enjoy live performances of two of Puerto Rico’s classic music and dance styles.
