Cozy Cedar Cottage Just Off Scenic M22 by Lower Herring Lake

If you are a nature lover or just looking for a relaxing vacation steps from Lower Herring Lake and Lake Michigan, this is your vacation stop. Our cottage is located off scenic M22 just south of Frankfort. There are many hiking trails and public boat launch. Lower Herring Lake is beautiful and used for fishing, boating, kayaking, swimming, and paddle boarding. The amazing views of Lake Michigan are a quick paddle and fun summer town of Frankfort only 5 minutes away! Start making memories now!

Space
The amazing views of Lake Michigan is a quick paddle across with clean, clear water and lined with hundreds of different rocks, breathtaking bluffs, and miles to walk with few people around. We want to invite you to share our piece of heaven. We have included 4 kayaks and paddles to get you out on Lower Herring Lake! Want to shop, have an amazing dinner, get ice cream, or go to the movies while on vacation? Frankfort is one of the best summer towns along the northern Michigan lake shore with many fantastic restaurants, The Garden historic theater, Stormcloud Brewing Company, public beach access and pier, and many fun shops!

Guest access
Our cottage is a quick minute walk to the water. There is a fire pit for evening fires and a propane grill to cook your evening meals. The cottage has a beautiful, bright sun porch to relax and a yard to play games in or sit around and visit. We have included 4 kayaks to get you out on Lower Herring Lake on your way to Lake Michigan. You may bring your boat if you want to fish or bum around the lake. The DNR launch by the cottage is posted "No Swimming" but you are a quick paddle or boat ride away from swimming in Lower Herring Lake or Lake Michigan via the outlet. Lake Michigan is a few minute drive to Arcadia, Elberta, or Frankfort!

We live nearby and available for questions via text/phone at almost any given time and can stop by in the evenings if needed. I try to be there around the time you check in to welcome you, make suggestions for things to do, and answer any questions you may have. It's a beautiful area and there is so much to do if wanted or a quiet area to relax as well!

Neighborhood overview
Our cottage is right off of scenic M22 and nestled in amongst a quiet neighborhood of wonderful people who mainly summer here. Many of them have become a second family for us. We ask that you please respect their properties by staying on roads to get to and from the boat launch. You will love the bright cottage colors to get you feeling in the vacation mood and it is in great condition! Lower Herring Lake is great for fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, boating, and bird watching. You will see wildlife all around the lake.

Getting around
You will need a car to get into Frankfort but you could bike there too (about 5 miles) so bring your bikes! There's a beautiful "rails to trails" bike path (Betsie Valley Trail) that you can get on several places on the way to town. This trail also goes to Crystal Lake too. Most of the trail is paved so rollerblading is nice too. Once you get to the cottage, I have a book of brochures, menu's, and ideas of some fun things to do. You won't get bored!

Other things to note
Water and trails are everywhere if you are outdoor lovers. You'll see some of the best sunsets of your life at Lake Michigan!! Frankfort has a great pier, boardwalks along the beach, volleyball courts, many parks, mineral springs, Stormcloud Brewery, skate park, Crystal Gardens & Rock Shop, an art studio, The Garden Theater, Betsie Valley Trail, and many fun shops and amazing restaurants. We are about a 40 minute drive on M22 from Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes National Lakeshore which shouldn't be missed and about 20 minutes from Cherrybowl Drivein which offers 2 movies nightly in Honor all summer at dusk.
