Uncle Johnnie's Lakefront Fishing Cabin

Lake Almanor is located 165 miles north of Sacramento, nestled amongst the pines where the Cascade Mountains meet the Sierra Nevadas. At elevation 4500 feet it is the third largest manmade lake in California and best known for its prime hunting and fishing grounds.

There are two golf courses on the lake, Bailey Creek in the peninsula & a nine hole at Lake Almanor West. OK, we're fishermen, not golfers! Mount Lassen National Park is just 26 miles away, has hiking (to the top!), picnicking, and very scenic views. Play tennis in the peninsula or bike around the lake (many other trails for cycling to choose from).

This cozy home is situated on the east shore of Hwy 147. Just about the middle of the 8 mile strip at 3907 Hwy 147, Lake Almanor, CA 96137. Enjoy sunsets on the deck or fish right off the dock. Bring your boat, there's plenty of excellent fishing holes around. During the summer months we rent Friday to Friday. Truly is a nice spot on the lake.

Shopping and antiquing can be found in all the quaint old fashioned towns around the area. Dine out in Chester, the peninsula, try Westwood's famous Buffalo Chips Pizzeria ("Cabin Fever" is our favorite).
For a truly affordable vacation on the lake this is the place.

Host is very communicative, instructions at the house are very clear, easy, and reasonable. House is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the lake. It was clean, firewood, kindling, and fire starter were available. House is pet-friendly with reasonable fee and rules.

Relaxing Long Weekend

We had a wonderful weekend on the lake. The cabin is exactly as advertised. The lake views are incredible and being able to tie our boat up to the dock for the duration of the trip so convenient. We cant wait to come back.

Magical Comfy Cabin

I absolutely loved my recent stay! Clean, comfy, well stocked with gorgeous views. The owner is great to communicate with. Super comfy bed and excellent shower pressure, plenty of storage for your stuff. The magic of the deck, the lake, the night sky….wow. I look forward to booking again!

Supper friendly host

Booked this house for my husbands fishing trip with the boys. They had an awesome time and the host was super helpful and communication was great. Only thing that would have made ot perfect was if the dock was in the water. Wasnt very shore fishing friendly.

Hard to say whether the property or the host was better - Deborah's family home is one of the coziest stays we've had. The home is outfitted for comfort, and has absolutely beautiful lake views The hosts are generous, welcoming, and available. Just a wonderful experience!

Homey and cozy stay.

There are already so many positive reviews about this cabin, it is hard to add something different to the list. The pictures capture the ambiance. The host is absolutely first rate. Her communications are helpful and timely. The nearby town of Chester has a market, Holiday, that is well stocked with healthy and organic food, along with plenty of regular grocery items. You will enjoy cooking in the kitchen. It was chilly and rainy during our stay but we enjoyed the views of the beautiful trees and the lake. We bundled up in the plush comforters, caught up on a few Netflix programs and enjoyed being together before the big holiday rush. We explored the town of Chester and felt that everybody was warm and upbeat. This is a unique town.

Uncle Johnnie's Cabin was a big hit

Uncle Johnnie's Cabin was a big hit for our group of four fishermen. The cabin was very comfortable for us. The two bedrooms and adjoining bathrooms are good size. The cabin is clean, in great condition and nicely decorated. We were there for 4 days/3 nights to fish. To stay at a lakside cabin is so convenient for us on kayaks and a boat. As the cook of the group I appreciated the large, clean refrigerator, cabinet full of pots, pans, utensils, and plenty of spices and oil. The large table on the back deck with a new Weber, 3 burner, Spirit grill was our afternoon and evening gathering spot to talk about the ones that got away. Thank you Deborah for being a gracious host!

Birthday getaway

This property is located right on the lake. The cabin is well thought out with both bedrooms having a private bath. The kitchen is stocked with everything you’ll need. If I could give one recommendation it would be to have an umbrella holder on the dock and/or a flat spot on the yard to secure an umbrella and chairs. We couldn’t enjoy the dock as much because there was no place to put an umbrella for shade. Same goes for the dirt lawn that had too much slope and extremely limited shade. We had to chase the shade around and as result spent most of the time on the back deck with a table and chairs. This place is adorable and has tons of potential. But not recommended for children or seniors.

very helpful owner

My husband has recently been diagnosed with dementia. i had hoped a visit to our favorite place, Lake Almanor, would bring back happy memories. We couldn't figure out how to use the TV (Apple smart TV and he is used to Xfinity) so not being able to watch his Tour de France and Wimbleton finals was very upsetting for him. The owner returned our call immediately and tried to help. She had experience with people suffering from dementia and was willing to make an exception to policy and gave us a refund when we had to go back home. The baths were nicely updated. The bed was comfortable with nice linens. The kitchen is old and the BBQ old. There is a dock into the lake but no "beach" and no grass, just dirt to the water so it made relaxing on the water challenging for my husband and our dog. They need a gate on the stairs from the deck to the water to keep dogs from leaving the deck. We were extremely pleased with the owners response to our problems. We left, not expecting a refund.

Wonderful stay at the lake

We had a great stay at Uncle Johnnie's fishing cabin. My husband and I had our teenagers, toddler and two black labs. It was definitely a slice of heaven to be out on the dock with our entire family. We brought our paddle boards and kayaks and easily launched them from the dock. Our toddler appreciated the toys left for her to enjoy. We stayed in and cooked every day in the well stocked kitchen. Our dogs had so much fun on this trip, they didn't wanna come home. We will be booking again in the future. Thanks Debbie!

We purchased the home in 1999 as strictly a business investment. Little did we realize how in love with the entire area we'd be. John loved to fish & sure could get his limit! Our family lives in the bay area but travel north to the home monthly. It's our favorite place to go!

The history of the Lake Almanor Basin is fascinating (we keep a book on the shelf to share with our guests). We found out the home was built in 1953 by Finnis Mack Saunders, nicknamed "Chief", a foreman for the Red River Lumber Company. The knotty pine walls & ceiling in the kitchen are priceless! We've respectfully done some remodeling while keeping the old world charm of the home. The well water is very good, plus extra filtration on the refrigerator door for cold drinking water. No need to bring bottled water. There's no curbside recycling so plastic water bottles just fill up the land waste!
