“Don't you just love those long rainy afternoons in New Orleans when an hour isn't just an hour - but a little piece of eternity dropped into your hands?" I couldn't help but recall Tennessee Williams' poignant reflection as I spoke with our host, Claire, one rainy Friday afternoon in January. There I stood with my five-year-old son, contemplating the beauty and magnitude of celebrating my mother's birthday in New Orleans--a city where she came of age--just the three of us.Claire's house is as advertised: a distinct mid-19th century Double-Gallery House with all the lower Garden District charm. Our host greeted us multiple times, engaging in long conversations about various topics ranging from the weather to her experiences with our hometown.A perfect setting and a gracious host is certainly more than anyone could ask for, especially when traveling with a child for his first extended period of time away from home. In the words of the great Tennessee Williams, at Claire's house, "an hour is a little piece of eternity!" Five stars!
