We had a spectacular stay at Fernway!! Hosts were attentive and quick to respond. We intend to return to the area again to explore and enjoy more of what Acadia National Park has to offer - we will book accommodations Fernway again!!

The house has everything a family needs for a stay here. We were able to spread out after hiking in Acadia and enjoy our down time. Beds were extremely comfortable and I am thankful for the fans in the closets to circulate air. Bring big spray for the walk from the house to the car because mosquitoes are abundant (but only around the house area). Thanks for a great stay!

Thank you for the great review! We're so glad the house was comfortable and had everything your family needed to unwind. Being nestled in a beautiful wooded area means we do get a very short window of woodland mosquitoes early in the season. They are certainly pests, but thank goodness they don’t stick around for long! We appreciate you staying with us and would love to host your family again.

Property was located in a great spot. It is close to Acadia and Bar, SW and NE Harbors. Fit our group of three couples and two kids. Host was very responsive to our questions. Kitchen was well stocked. We loved the screened in porch. It was one of the primary reasons we reserved this house. It allowed us to sit outside while avoiding the mosquitos.

We really enjoyed our stay at Fern Way. There was plenty of space for 3 couples and the location was excellent to access the main section of the park, Bar Harbor and the Bass Harbor area also. We walked down the road to the kayak area of Longs Pond and it was beautiful. The weather was great for the 3 days we were there in the end of September so we were out and about a lot and didn't get to use the outside spaces at the house much, even though they looked inviting. The screened in porch was very nice, but it was too chilly in the evenings to sit out. Communication was great and the house was spotless. We would definitely choose to stay here again!

Family Adventure

This secluded property was a perfect base camp for our week of exploration on Mount Desert Island. The screened porch for morning coffee and evening dinner was the best.

Idyllic Acadia forest retreat a short walk from long lake and kayak rentals. Relaxing home with screen room and large yard with hammock and outdoor seating areas. Quiet setting - but close to Acadia park and Bar Habor night life. We enjoyed our stay! Hope to return!

Great House for Visiting Acadia

The house was perfect for our group (two families) while visiting Acadia. The area was quiet and conveniently located (a short drive to the park and Bar Harbor). The house itself is clean, spacious, organized, serene (nature themes of wood, stone, plants), and had all the kitchen supplies we needed for light cooking. Would definitely stay here again while visiting the area!

This is a beautiful home nestled within forest land but offering every amenity for a comfortable stay. One bedroom and bath on the first floor, and three more on the upper floor, including one with two twin beds, so can easily accommodate 3 couples and two kids. It is also just a quick drive to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, so perfect in that regard as well. To top it all off, Jen (owner) and Kristen (manager) are attentive hosts and extremely accommodating. Absolutely loved our stay.

Great house for families

owners on property in case anything needed. No phone or cell service (only local calls). Awesome pond a quarter mile away.

Yes, Long Pond is indeed a fantastic lake (the largest lake on Mount Desert Island) and the southern half is located within Acadia National Park. There is a swimming beach and a canoe/kayak rental located at the northern end where Fern Way is. Cell coverage can be sporadic on Mount Desert due to the mountains and the limited ability to build towers because of Acadia. There is an ATT tower a few miles from Fern Way so phones with that carrier (that's what we have with no difficulty making or receiving calls from Fern Way) will have the best service. We do have high speed internet so calls can also be made that way. Jen

GREAT VACATION SPOT

If you're having trouble deciding where to stay on Mount Desert Island, Fern Way is the perfect choice. You can walk to the swimming beach and boat rentals on Long Pond, and are really at the crossroads of the island -- you can easily reach Bar Harbor, the Park Loop Road, and the "quiet side" attractions. The house is very comfortable and well-equipped, and our family of six had plenty of room to spread out. It's even prettier than in the pictures, and we enjoyed eating in as much as eating out. Jen and Adam are excellent hosts and will answer all your questions.

Branda- if you can have "crossroads" on a round island, then Fern Way sits right there in the middle of it all. Thanks for the kind words, although I always enjoy eating out much more than eating in particularly with the choices of restaurants in Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor, Bass Harbor, Otter Creak and Town Hill all less than 15 min away! Wonderful spot in the Quiet Side

My family of four loved our stay at Fernway. Jen, our host, was so kind to be sure we knew everything we needed to know for our extended visit on MDI. The kitchen was very well stocked and even had bonuses like travel coffee mugs and kids’ plasticware. Our young children loved playing in the yard for countless hours and we all enjoyed the screened porch immensely. The futon on the porch was a dreamy spot for reading and naps! We loved the location - away from the chaos of Bar Harbor but close to Acadia and close enough to make a trip into Bar Harbor when we wanted. The memories we made at this house will be cherished for years to come!

Wonderfully maintained, best stocked kitchen and facilities of any rental we have ever done

Fern Way is a great place to stay, peaceful, and quiet. You are surrounded by woods and nature. The kitchen has lots of dishes, great appliances, and plenty of spices for cooking. They have lots of anything one would need, towels soap, shampoo, toilet paper, paper towels, etc etc etc. You can sit on the screened deck and hear the loons at night. Wonderful. Jen is great too. She came by to welcome us and always answered promptly to questions. I can't say enough about the place. This is the second time we have stayed there, and we will certainly stay there again the next time that go to MDI!!

There's nothing worse than arriving at a rental home to find the most basic items such as Olive Oil is not even available! We do our best to go far above and beyond that and provide a well stocked kitchen of flour, sugar, spices as well as tools and appliances. We take the same approach in our bathrooms supplying shampoo, conditioner and soaps. We want you to come with nothing more than your clothes! We'll even buy your groceries for you if you wish (yes, it's one of our MOST popular vacation services that we offer). Jen

A magical time in the woods

We stayed at this property for four days as part of a large group here for a destination wedding. The house was everything we expected and then some. We had eight adults that were very comfortably housed and the living area was wonderful for family enjoyment. The house was spotless upon arrival and everything works! We found that the setting was excellent even for small children. It is convenient to all parts of the island. There was plenty of parking. Our host was readily available. We didn’t actually need them for anything because they were so well prepared. If you need a location that can house eight adults on Mount Desert Island you couldn’t find a nicer home.

Stocked up and well organized "home"

Great "home" with all essentials including well equipped kitchen, extra linens and bathroom accessories (tissue rolls, shampoos and soaps). Great location with beautiful front porch sitting area and netted outdoor patio. The owner, Jen, is very friendly, easy to reach and responsive. Enjoyed our vacation and we all had a great time at this "home".

Perfect :)

We loved Fern Way as our base to explore MDI. We've rented many homes in many places and this one was stuffed with every imaginable household item you might ever need. We didn't bake any bread in the bread machine but we also didn't want for a good pot or pan or quality knife, that's for sure! One of the drawbacks of some rentals is the lack of 'stuff' that you really need from day-to-day. Not Fern Way! The home was spotless and we got off to a perfect start w the hand-written note from the Owner and a jar of blueberry jam awaiting our arrival. The location was great - just 15 minutes or so to Bar Harbor and similar to Southwest Harbor and also the primary access to the park loop. The house was very private, which allowed us to just do us and get away from the busier areas of the island. Though we didn't see any moose in Maine we enjoyed the porcupine we nicknamed "Spike" as he/she enjoyed nibbling something tasty for hours in the front yard. Would definitely stay here again.

Ah gee- your making me blush! Sounds like we hit a home run for you family and so delighted you enjoyed Fern Way. "Spike" apparently has been marking the rounds! We have had a porcupine living somewhere near by on our 10 acres of land over the past few years and appeared to find something tasty on the front lawn. Just be sure not to hug him!! Jen

Perfect place for a weekend getaway!

The Fern Way house is a beautiful home! My family and I had a wonderful stay while exploring Maine. I was a little disappointed the house isn't right on the lake! The pictures were a little deceiving, but the drive is only 10 minutes away. Jen was a great hostess. She was very accommodating and responsive to any questions.

I'm sorry to hear that there was any confusion about our photos or how we represented Fern Way. We are not on Long Pond, we are 1/10 of a mile (not quite sure how it takes 10 min to drive there when you can walk it in about 3 min) from the north end of the lake where there is a canoe/kayak rental, boat launch and swimming area. Sounds like perhaps our tenant was a bit confused not only with our listing but also with the area. I'm always more than happy to answer any questions folks have. After 20 years of running rentals, I know that well informed guests always have a better vacation and a more positive experience in our home when they know exactly what to expect. Jen

Amazing time with family!

We had a family reunion of sorts at this house during the Memorial Day long weekend. This beautiful house was quiet and had all the amenities you’d need. The hosts’ attention to detail is impeccable - we used their bug spray to rid ourselves off of bugs for hikes. If you’re looking for a family home with great access to Acadia this is your house! Thank you Jen and Adam for a wonderful weekend!

We do our best! Sorry to hear it was a bit buggy during your stay. One of the great things about Acadia is that there are so many different areas within the park, you can, what I call "Dial in the weather". If it hot, head to a wooded trail or the ocean. If it's buggy, head to a mountain top or open area. Foggy on the east side, hike on the west side. jen

Great house

Our family of 6 stayed in the house for 6 nights in October 2017. The house is well designed, comfortable and was big enough for the family. There are big rooms, nice kitchen with everything in it, beautiful dining room and living room for everybody to sit together. There is a great porch and garden outside surrounding by the woods. Jenn responded quickly to our questions and requests from the first email and she and her family Welcomed us kindly when we arrived. The location is great if you want to visit Acadia national park and its area. We had a perfect stay and we highly recommend this house.
