The house was beautiful! The steps were a lot for my in-laws and parents, but were doable. Game room, pool, and hot tub were wonderful. We saw lots of horses, which was our main reason for booking, so that was amazing!!! The biggest drawback was that we did not have any clue that the roads to the house, once you are off the beach, would/could be flooded. The water was so deep in places that 2 of our 4 cars ended up with check engine lights on. My parents AWD Honda CR-V had to be towed to the main road from the house (because the water tripped the AWD sensor and went out). That cost 765 for the 9 miles, plus more to get to a Honda dealer. The car was fine; they reset all the lights, but it still cost nearly 1000 and an entire day going to Elizabeth City (6 hours) to pick it back up once it was towed. We then had to pay 35 a day to park on Ponton Rd. We ended up being too afraid to damage the cars further, so we stayed at the house most of the time. We never made it to the beach because you could not even walk there due to the deep water. It was our first time and I thought AWD would be ok—it is not. YOU MUST HAVE 4 wheel drive. We still had a nice time relaxing at the pool, playing corn hole, and watching for the horses. I’d mention the possibility of flooded roads in the house description and emphasize the need for a truck or Jeep. If there had not been flooded roads, this would have been a 5.
