House not well- maintained and owners are dishonest
I 100% discourage potential guests from renting this house. And I caution anyone who does that the home is not well-maintained and downright dangerous. It has electrical and plumbing issues, and the owners have no problems pinning these issues on the guests.
In addition to some minor issues… a fallen towel rack and an uncomfortable, creaky bed, we experienced a major issue as we were packing to leave on the the last morning of our trip. As a family member upstairs was using the shower, I saw water falling from the ceiling in the downstairs bathroom. It was actually streaming through the two recessed lights above the bathtub. I immediately ran upstairs and notified the person showering, and they turned off the water. There was no water outside the tub/ shower, and the curtain was correctly closed. It was quite clearly an issue with the tub/shower or it’s liner. And it was evident from downstairs that serious water damage had occurred.
Nonetheless, upon letting the owners know, there was no sense of urgency, and I received no apology. Rather, they responded that this same thing had happened once before when someone upstairs hadn’t properly closed the curtain while showering. I had a hunch then that this would be their angle with us, too.
Knowing that the water/electricity combo is dangerous and the downstairs bathroom lights shouldn’t be used,
I instead went to open the blinds so we could have some light in the bathroom as we packed up and got ready to leave. As I turned the rod to open the blinds the entire window treatment came tumbling down. Aggravated and thankful that we were leaving that day, I reported that last issue and received no response, no acknowledgment or apology for our trouble or for the state of disrepair the house was in. Instead, when I reached out to find out when we would be getting our refund, I was told that they had never had a guest with so many issues during their stay, and the implication was that the deposit would be withheld.
This experience was frustrating and disheartening. Not only did we do our best to keep the owners informed diligently and promptly of the numerous issues that arose, but we also tried to be gracious and understanding, overlooking the problems as much as possible.
In summary, do not stay here. Overpriced, not well-kept and the owners have no scruples when it comes to pinning the issues on the guests.
