Welcome to Maluhia Kahakai - Your Awesome Vacation Rental at the Mauna Loa Shores Condominiums in Hilo, HI!

This recently renovated ground floor, garden view 2 bedroom, 1 bath condo in Hilo is beachfront next to Carlsmith Beach Park where you can swim and snorkel all day every day and get up close to the sea turtles! Your home-away-from-home has everything you need for the perfect getaway or extended vacation. The living room is the perfect place to relax after a long day sight-seeing around the Big Island, with a cable TV, DVD, a DVD library, lots of books and games, and of course cable and unlimited high-speed internet. The kitchen is well-equipped with high-end stainless steel appliances, including a dishwasher, and ideal for making those scrumptious island meals using all the goodies you picked up at the Hilo Farmer's Market. Eat inside at the dining table, or outside on the lanai and let those island breezes take you away. Each bedroom has a comfortable queen bed. The remodeled bathroom is gorgeous. The laundry facility can be located at the end of the corridor. There are complimentary quarters in the jar in the kitchen.

You have access to the shared-use pool on the ground floor.

The unit we stayed was clean, though a little bit old, with out dated furnitures but bathroom and kitchen were remodeled. The space is big enough for three of us. The biggest surprise/bonus is its location, not far away from the downtown, and next to a beautiful beach where we did swimming and snorkeling. The host was great and kept communicating with us.

Nice Pool. The Picture on VRBO was better than the actual unit. The Name of the place was actually different also. The Name on VRBO. None of the locals recognized. That was strange. Property Managers were great. Didn’t like the VRBO charge either. Will check around next time

Dingy but great lication

Great location essentially on Carlsmith beach, but was quite dingy/not very clean. Towels smelled terrible and sour like they’d been left in a washer for a couple days and then hung to dry in the humid air. Beds were moderately comfortable though the pillows were awful. Seemed somewhat dishonest to describe the unit as “recently renovated.” The kitchen was on the newer side but terribly done, tile was stick-on with no caulking and bugs were collecting along the bottom of it where it met the counter. Appliances were not high-end as described, but new and worked well. The bathroom looked as though the tile was recently redone, but the light switch was filthy, paint and plaster were in poor shape and the door was grubby, with paint chipping all along the bottom. Bathroom vanity fixture had lightbulbs of different colors.The remote to the Roku didn’t work and the sofa/chairs were very stiff and uncomfortable in part because the cushions don’t attach and continuously slip off the frame. We didn’t spend much time in the apartment though, which is why I was willing to let things go.Was annoyed that we had to jump through hoops to fill out insurance paperwork prior to the booking being accepted.

Quiet Location with easy Ocean Access

Apartment was very clean and a good layout. We really enjoyed the location as you could walk to a nice beach/swimming area and downtown was a short drive away.

The apartment is equipped for all beach activities. Ample space, private, quiet. Building manager very helpful. Nice, friendly atmosphere around the building. The two-bedroom unit isn't luxurious, but adequate. Docoratig/furniture could stand some updating, also linens. There was annoying cooking odor that lingered, probably due to high humidity in Hilo area. Nice atmosphere at the condo complex.

location location location

This was my 4th time staying at Moana Loa. This condo was just ok, the others were great. Some of it has been cheaply updated. The kitchen cabinets are all peeling their finish, the rugs are disgusting and shredded and stained. They should just be removed. The closets need to either have new doors and tracks or have them removed and just have clean neat open space. There are no dressers for clothes. There is old furniture that is useless. There are only loud standing fans in the bedrooms, no ceiling fans. The outside entrance area needs to be cleaned up, its full of bugs and spiders. It isn't very inviting. We never were able to get the tv to work.

Swim with turtles!

The description and past reviews are accurate, it's an older condo and not exactly luxury accommodations, but the condo was comfortable and had everything we needed in a two bedroom place. And being able to walk out through the back gate pretty much right into the water at Carlsmith beach with snorkel and fins in hand was really wonderful!

Great location

We really enjoyed being right next door to Carlsmith Beach Park to enjoy the sun and snorkel. The building also had a lot of security to it, although it seemed a little run down. The unit had very little cooking supplies, we needed to get salt, pepper, and oil as there were only a tiny amount for about a day's worth. We also didn't realize there would be no personal toiletries, and that was probably listed but we overlooked it, so please be prepared to bring all of your own shampoo, body soap, etc. Appreciated the coins and laundry pods for doing laundry down the hall.

We had a fabulous time. In spite of no A/C, we were quite comfortable the entire time. The living room sofa could have been more comfortable, but the kitchen was clean and well equipped. The shower was FABULOUS!

Comfy condo close to specatular views

Sea turtles, sun, jungle, and sea at your fingertips. Great family friendly area, minutes from downtown. We loved being close to Carmichael Park; saw a sea turtle the first day. Kids loved it!

Comfortable stay

Friendly property manager helped us find our lockbox and told us about the differences in the keys. Nice apartment that kept fairly cool without air conditioning. Nice pool and convenient access to the ocean. At the end of the hall, so good privacy. Would have been nice to be able to give our older kids keys too, but $250 list key fee wasn't worth the risk. Buddhist statues everywhere, too much. Toilet requires multiple flushes and there's a slow leak in the shower. Overall it was an enjoyable stay.

visit with family

We swam every morning with fish and turtles. Our room was great other than our view was the parking lot. The road by the condo can be very noisy and the roosters start in about 4:30 AM. Othan, the maintenance person was so helpful and kind. One of our keys that ran the elevator and other doors did not work very well. There's a great library in the lobby. We've stayed here many times.

Nice layout, comfortable, good value

This is a clean, comfortable property with a nice open kitchen area. We snorkeled every day at the park next door, enjoyed the restaurant across the street, and appreciated that both beds were the same quality and size.

Cute beach condo

This condo was charming and very conveniently located by the beach. Check-in and checkout were very easy and the condo had comfortable rooms. I would suggest providing better toilet paper (not one-ply).
