Swallow Cottage - Cottage de Luxo no Antigo Pátio em Co Wicklo

Swallow cottage is a large luxuriously refurbished cottage located beside NewCastle Village, Co. Wicklow in the Garden of Ireland. The property is part of an old courtyard complex which has been recently renovated. The property is on two levels and comprises Large Living and Open Plan kitchen area with one Bedroom (double bed) and ensuite shower room on the upper level and a very large bedroom with double bed and one single bed on the ground floor with adjacent shower room, entrance hall and utility room. The property sleeps four persons comfortably and a fifth person ( on single bed) can be accommodated in the very large ground floor bedroom. Equiped with WIFI and TV's.
The property is located on a working farm and beside the Birdwatch Nature Reserve in Co. Wicklow. Located in North Wicklow and literally 20 minutes from South County Dublin, it is an ideal base for exploring the surrounding area, 40 minutes from the Centre of Dublin and 10 minutes from the village of Greystones to the North and 10 mins from the town of Wicklow. The Wicklow National Park , Glendalough, the Powerscourt Estate, Kilruddery are all within easy driving distance. Druid's Glen Golf Course is less than a 5 minute drive away and there are at least 10 other golf courses within a 10 minute drive. So it is an ideal location for golfers who might be interested in basing themselves in Wicklow. The beach is a 10 minute walk from the farm, half a mile. Other amenities close by include horse riding/polo/ cycling/ walking/ sailing. The farm is located close to where the Vikings TV series is being shot.

The farm has been restored and the target is to make it as environmentally friendly as possible and re-introduce native wild life and plants that had previously been wiped out by industrial farming. The reason it is called Swallow Cottage is because the Swallows return each year to the barn adjacent and nest there for the summer.

This property is a dream, the setting is amazing and Swallow Cottage is even better in reality than the already lovely photos. We enjoyed a week here, a peaceful place to return to every evening after a busy day hiking, shopping and eating close by. Angela was an amazing host and everyone on the property so welcoming. Great peaceful place to get away

Lovely quiet retreat for the family. Close enough to many attractions in Wicklow or the beach to keep everyone satisfied. The lodgings were nicely furnished and equipped. The overall design of the accommodations was amazing. The owners were helpful and accommodating with our children, including letting them interact with the horses and lovely dogs! Would definitely return.

We were so happy with our stay at the Swallow Cottage. Angela provided a wonderful welcome and was fantastic in responding to any requests. The Swallow Cottage has plenty of room and was spotless. Kitchen provided all the amenities of home. We will absolutely recommend to our friends traveling to Ireland and will be sure to make this a stop on our next visit.

A lovely place

We so much enjoyed our stay. The farm was a place of peace as it re-wilds. We noticed and enjoyed songs of the birds and field of grass in front of our cottage. The cottage was beautifully renovated and we enjoyed sitting and looking out of the large window. We also enjoyed the region, the mountains and the seaside community of Greystones. Hidden Magic!

Absolutely fantastic stay in Yew Cottage: the accommodations are properly luxe balanced with cozy. Stunning sculptures dot the pristine (yet charming) grounds, and the walking paths down to the sea are delightful. Our favorite but was the canine welcoming committee. Truly a retreat from the daily grind.

Gorgeous Cottage

This place is stunning, such a gorgeous base to stay in while exploring Wicklow. The log fire and Netflix was perfect for a rainy evening. We have 3 kids who loved this place nicknaming it the ‘upside down’ cottage due to the living room being upstairs to take advantage of the views across the fields. We adventured through the fields to the beach to explore, which was fun.

First timers in Ireland

The property was beautiful, we found the beds comfortable, everything was in working order. The kitchen and bathrooms were fully equipped. The grounds were charming and the host was especially engaging. This is the place to be for peace and quiet. Not much to do in town. We had really good food at the Castle’s Inn - Dublin is at least 35+ minutes away. We would stay there again

Awesome stay here while horse shopping in the area. Increadible attention to details with the remodel of the historic farm. We had coffee, milk, juice and Irish bread and butter waiting for us upon arrival. You will be amazed!

Fantastic place to stay!

My husband and 2 teenagers stayed here for 3 weeks and it was amazing! The property is beautiful and spacious. There was grass to kick a ball around on. The kids enjoyed playing with the dogs. We enjoyed having our morning coffee and breakfast on the patio. The cottage was big enough for us to all have our own space and some privacy for my husband while he worked. Everyone was so friendly and kind. I can't say enough good things about this place.

Didn’t want to leave!

Just had a fantastic week in this gorgeous property set in the most fantastic grounds. The owners and all the people working on the property were friendly, welcoming and attentive. Freshly picked produce grown in the grounds arrived at our door. The hosts could not do enough for us. The accommodation was of the highest standard of equipment, fixtures and fitting. We didn’t want to leave! Thank you Angela, Harry and everyone in the team!

A Very Quiet Few Days

My son and I enjoyed our 5 days at Swallow Cottage very much as we both love nature and we visited the bird sanctuary. We would have appreciated a little more communication with our host on arrival, such as 5 minutes to explain where to find the ground floor bathroom was located and the hidden bedroom TV. A few signposts, such as the name on the cottage door, and a few discreet arrows to show the way on foot to the beach would have been helpful. The accommodation was very comfortable and cosy.

Everything you need, nothing you don’t

An Irish slice of heaven

Our family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids) absolutely LOVED this vrbo! I wish I could give it 6 stars because it is superlative. Property looks even better in person than in pictures - immaculate, modern, peaceful. The beds were incredibly comfortable and rooms conveniently had black-out shades so we always had a great night's sleep. Kitchen had everything we needed and we enjoyed many meals in the cottage because it was truly just a joy to be in that space. There were also fantastic waterfall shower heads in both bathrooms, and a washer/dryer (must have with 3 kids) in our cottage. The grounds are stunning with aromatic flower and kitchen gardens. We enjoyed a walk through the nature reserve in the back of the property to the Irish Sea!! We also had a great time with the friendly resident dogs and cats. This cottage will be one of our favorite memories/experiences from our Ireland adventure, and I am so grateful to Angela for creating this little slice of heaven and sharing it with us.

Disappointing stay at an isolated farm

The host was not at the property at the agreed time, and was quite cool with us in a fairly brief showing round. There was no customary welcome of flowers/wine/items such as butter, milk, bread, unlike the other places we stayed at, indicative of good manners. This was the most expensive of the places we had booked yet the host explained she was not making enough money! Reviews, on which we all base our choices, mentioned fresh items/champagne/coffee etc but there was nothing at all. We received a message minutes later, whilst mulling over the 10 mile round trip to get milk, as the farm is not near anywhere, saying we could leave and get a pro rata refund. Perhaps it was meant well but I found it distressing. We did not see or hear from her again during our stay. Swallow Cottage is certainly luxuriously designed and the linen and beds were lovely. The window panes top and bottom did suffer from bird droppings and my husband noticed many dead flies and cobwebs in the veluxes, so suggest these are cleaned. The hob wasn't straightforward, only working when something is on it so a guide to all the facilities would be a great help. How did the BBQ work and why a coffee machine without pods provided? Not enough crockery when using the full size dishwasher to then have any left to use. 2 dishwasher tablets for a 5 day stay? one log in the basket for a fire, one spoon for cooking. Everything a little mean. There are 4 boisterous dogs who do run around free so bear that in mind.

Thank you for your comments. We would like to respond as follows – the client had indicated that they would be arriving at 5pm - we had given them a contact number so they could call on arrival. At 5.05 pm we received a call from the client to say that they had arrived and within 2/3 minutes we were with the client. Unfortunately the client was not happy that we were not there on their arrival but it is a large working farm and we are not always immediately available although we try to do our best. The client immediately wanted to know where her welcome basket was and I explained that we do not do welcome baskets. This was repeated a number of times. The client was clearly upset about this. We subsequently sent over a nice bottle of white wine and some strawberries (which the client has forgotten to mention) and I sent a text message explaining that we did not do Welcome baskets and that if the client was not happy with arrangements that we would be happy to refund her for her stay. I also explained that it was a self-catering apartment. All basics tea/ coffee/ basic condiments are fitted out with the apartment – we had forgotten to leave over coffee pods (our fault entirely) but after showing the clients around we dropped over a pack. It was us who brought it to the attention of the client. The Cottage is called Swallow Cottage as the Swallows arrive each summer and nest in the stables beside the Cottage and yes there will be bird droppings on the exterior of the windows – as the Swallows spend their time flying around which is a wonderful thing to behold. We will of course get the cobwebs removed from the Velux – our apologies for that but we can’t do a lot about the Swallows! The local garage sells milk – 400 metres from the farm entrance! And there was comprehensive lists of shops given in our Directions and Instruction notes – given to the client several days in advance of their arrival. I am sorry the client was disappointed but we were equally disappointed! We are always more than happy and willing to help out but it got off to a bad start!

Superb accommodation, location & hospitality

Our family (2 adults, a 5-year-old and a toddler) spent a week here. The accommodation is truly excellent. It is a converted farm house, as part of a recent (I assume) conversion of the entire farm and buildings. The setting is, therefore, stunning, from the long avenue down to the buildings, the huge lawns, the court yard and the wide open fields, from one of which can be accessed a nature reserve and, eventually, the beach. The property itself is finished to a high standard. All appliances are Miele, there is a premium TV, excellent showers and both a washer and dryer. We cooked here every morning and every evening and were very comfortable. The landlady lives in a separate building on the farm. Not too near as to feel imposed upon but near enough to be able to assist with any difficulties (usually not something that happens IME). We were able to obtain a replacement cafetiere and some additional kitchen items with no fuss or complaint. We were happily provided with a barbecue, which was much appreciated with the fine weather. The fridge was well stocked on arrival with eggs, milk, ham, cheese, juice and champagne. We were allowed to pick fresh lettuce that was being grown. Our children loved the house and the farm. The 5-year-old in particular loved the huge outdoor setting to run around in, explore safely and play football. We found the location suited our needs very well. It is a one hour drive into Dublin (to see family in Howth) and similar to Wexford (more family). It was less than half an hour to Powerscourt, which is a stunning house and grounds. It was just over half an hour to Glendalough and also to the Clara Lara play park - highly recommended for children aged 5-12 and on a sunny day. A 10 minute walk / 2 minute drive to the nearest pub & restaurant. An 8 minute drive to the nearest Dunnes supermarket and more restaurants / takeaways.

The Farm was purchased in 2014 and has been undergoing restoration, 60,000 sq feet of industrial sheds have been demolished with a view to making the farm an environmentally friendly as possible with it iconic position close to the unique Birdwatch Reserve and the natural beauty of the Wicklow countryside, classified as an area of outstanding natural beauty.
