The Irish Rose - a Colorado Dream Vacation Spot - Secluded!

In over 20 years of renting the Irish Rose, this is the first one-star review we have ever received. It definitely deserves a response. Yes, it is true that the guests contacted us prior to their stay to say that they expected the house to be ultra clean. They also said they would not get into a hot tub that had been used previously by other people. We explained that we continuously monitor and maintain a clean and properly chlorinated hot tub. They were not satisfied with this, so we made special arrangements for our maintenance team to completely drain and refill the hot tub just for them. Our cleaning team made an extra trip back to the cabin to double check the conditions before these guests checked in. Shortly after the guests checked in, we started receiving comments about things they found to be “dirty”. Since they were not happy with the accommodations, we offered them a full last-minute refund with the option for them to seek other lodging, as we were not sure what else we could do for them. The guests had other complaints too. They said they could not find their extra key set (they were on the table) and that WiFi was not fast enough. We personally purchased them extra data of high speed satellite service. We assumed their stay was OK until we received a call from VRBO customer service after their checkout saying they wanted their cleaning fee returned. In another attempt at good will, we fully refunded it for them. Then we received this one star review. To comment on the other complaints in the review… The Irish Rose sits at 10,500 feet on ten acres of Colorado wilderness. The view IS the wilderness, which includes green, thriving pine and aspen trees in the foreground of mountain peaks and a running river. From the deck and interior of the house, the view of Penn Mountain is spectacular. The front of the house is filled with wetlands and old beaver ponds when the river is running high. The back portion of the property is filled with more trees and rock formations. The area immediately around the house is manicured and maintained in a natural setting.The trees also provide an area of natural privacy around the hot tub, which has a smooth concrete path around it for ease of access from the cabin. The guests were upset to see “no trespassing” signs past the Irish Rose’s ten acres because they wanted to trespass. Our neighbors to the south don’t mind if our guests explore their land and the historic mining remains, but guests do so at their own risk. The old bridge that crosses the river is not on our property. There is easy river access on the Irish Rose property in front of the cabin by walking up the dirt road a bit and then onto a wide trail to the left. This river entry point also has beach-like sand near a clearing where deer and moose like to hang out. Our toilets are standard size. There is no mold in the dry mountain air of Colorado. They were looking at some caulking that is no longer bright white. We will be replacing the caulking. The house is also built on a foundation of rock and even in 75 mph winds, it does not budge. Walking in the loft does not disturb others in the house. This was by far our most miserable experience with guests. We hope no other VRBO owners ever have to deal with them. We can promise that our long list of five-star reviews are the norm and it’s our goal to ensure you love staying at the Irish Rose.

Sorry if you had trouble with the hot tub jets. There’s a diverter valve next to the filter that allows you to redirect water to different jet streams. Then you can also turn off individual jets by turning the knob right behind it. So if turned off, they won’t provide any flow. I can promise that all the jets do work. Hope that’s not the only reason we received four stars from you. We take great pride in our five star ratings and large number of return guests!
