New, modern, immaculate 2BR/2BA (sleeps 6) Oakland hills gem, Bay views, spectacular proximity to UC Berkeley, SF, Silicon Valley, Redwoods, Napa wineries and Calistoga hot springs.

Eyeing San Francisco Bay, amid Eucalyptus groves, this light filled abode is the perfect combination of serenity and proximity.

The space

This architect designed home away from home offers a master bedroom with a comfortable California King bed, tasteful and vibrant decor, a master suite complete with an ADA shower/Jacuzzi combination, walk-in closet and reading nook. We supply all linens and a set of towels per guest. This room overlooks the deck.

The guest bedroom has a serene feel, a queen size bed, an armoire, a dresser and high windows. Adjacent to this room is another full-sized bathroom with tub. Radiant heat is abound throughout the home in the gorgeously colored flooring.

The kitchen has all the amenities one would need, such as a large fridge, dishwasher,stove/oven, toaster oven, coffee-maker (we even hook you up with regular/decaf/ sugar/honey/splenda and creamers), food processor, pots/pans and all the dishes, glasses, utensils and silverware you will need. You may enjoy your morning Joe at the kitchen island or overlooking the bay on the deck. We provide olive oil, balsamic vinegar, spices and more, so you won’t need to buy those.

The open concept dining room/Living room combo allows for relational seating. The dining table accommodates 6 guests and the 51” Smart TV has Netflix and Hulu. The sectional opens to a comfortable full size bed should you so desire. The views will make you feel like indeed, you are close to heaven.

You may enjoy a local bubbly on the deck at sunset and then throw a steak on the BBQ, while you get situated on the outdoor seating.

We created this lovely space for you to enjoy, relax and return. We think you will!

Guest access

Guests have the apartment and deck to themselves (owner lives in unit above). Shared, free laundry facilities. Owner needs exclusive use of driveway and garage but that's no problem because there's plenty of free street parking in front and adjacent to the house.

We would love to interact with our guests as much or as little as they would like! We are the folks from Book a Nook, a relational, compassionate short-term property management company. We love to nurture our guests and provide stellar experiences, which keep our guests returning for more!

Other things to note

Please note that the owner lives on the top unit and prefers a quiet atmosphere.

Overall, the unit was clean and as listed. However check-in was less than smooth.

A month in I sent a follow up inquiry to the listing that never received a response. On day of check in, I was expecting an email with details on how to get into the unit. At check-in time, I still had not received the details. The contact number for the property went straight to voicemail. I called it at least 10 times. I finally tried contacting HomeAway for help, when finally the co-host responded back. This definitely didn't kick start the visit off in the right way. However, the listing was clean, well-appointed, and they had some snacks/treats to welcome us for the stay.

A rental with too many rules

Place was nice, loved the view and location, but there are more cons than pros. 1. The property is on the low part of the house, you need to consider luggage because you have to take it down and then up lots of stairs.... 2. The entrance to the rental is through a bedroom. 3. Master bathroom's shower is really uncomfortable, it is one of those tubs for the elder, I guess you are supposed to shower sitting down, which we just could not do, so it was hard not to hurt your feet because there is no space to be standing up. 4. washer and dryer are in the owner's garage, and as he mentioned, twice, his bedroom is close to it, so you can only do laundry during certain hours, no later than 9pm, which is kind of inconvenient when you are on vacation and out most of the day. 5. There are turn down hours from 10pm-8am. 6. Owner has a rule book with many requests, even fine warnings if you don't separate the garbage. Would work if you come for a 1-2 day business trip with small luggage and no need to do laundry.

We were staying in the home when dropping our son off at school. The house was situated perfectly

We thoroughly enjoyed the home. We were greeted by the owner when we first arrived and we enjoyed dinner in on Saturday night. It was clean, beautifully decorated and the view was priceless.

Nice place to stay!

Comfy spot for our family of four. It was a bit farther from town than we expected but very nice spot once we got there (and the directions/description of the location were accurate, we were just surprised by the windy roads!).

Beautiful place, poor communication

Beautiful place, very clean, spacious, and lots of natural light. The patio was really nice and there’s a nice view of the bay from the living room. The host (or his manger) was very difficult to communicate with because he was often non-responsive (we would ask a question, and then no reply, then would have to ask again, etc.) We were concerned about our stay, but once we arrived everything was great, and we ran into the owner and he was very friendly. The host could work on his communication, but otherwise the place was great and we had a wonderful stay!

Wonderful stay!

We had a really great stay this beautiful retreat in the hills. The owners are very accommodating, and provided us with a brand new crib for our 18-month old son. We also have a five-year-old, and he loved beautiful views. It was a wonderful Retreat as we explored the Bay Area. This is the most well stocked vacation rental property we have ever stayed in. We cooked a lot at home, and the kitchen has everything we needed. The bathrooms were also stocked with everything you can possibly need. Two thumbs up! Thanks!!

A wonderful way to bring in the new year!

My boyfriend and I visited Oakland, San Francisco and Napa to celebrate New Year's Eve. We were in love with this property! The view of the San Francisco Bay from the deck was breathtaking (we rarely closed the blinds)! The location is ideal for traveling to the neighboring cities or if you just want to explore various parts of Oakland. We had everything we needed and the kitchen was stocked nicely.

So Peaceful

My sister and I enjoyed the peace and quiet of this charming oasis. Especially at the end of each fun filled day with the four grandkids. The view was beautiful. The lights across the bay added to the holiday cheer. Wish it hadn’t been raining so we could’ve enjoyed the lovely deck. The cute little downtown area filled with shops and restaurants is just a short drive away. One challenge is the (well lit) 38 steps down the hillside from the street to the entrance door with suitcases, bags of food and Christmas presents. It was also quite challenging for us overweight, senior citizens to get all that stuff back up those 38 steps to the car. We made it with no heart attacks or strokes but vowed to pack lighter next time or maybe lose a few pounds.

Gorgeous views, very clean, lots of storage

We have stayed in lots of properties through VRBO. I look at reviews every time so I always write a very detailed review of every property. First, the things we loved: 1. Really pretty views up in the hills; very quiet; we felt VERY safe. 2. Property is VERY clean, and decorated nicely. 3. Really our favorite thing was all the storage. Some properties you have to live out of your suitcase. This one had more storage and lots of very smart storage. There were 3 of us at the house but with all the storage you could have had 4 or 5. 4. Comfortable seating; very comfortable beds; great extra fluffy blankets; great pillows. 5. We didn't use the kitchen to cook because we were visiting family for Christmas and ate our meals with them. However, I did look at the pots and pans, etc. Plenty of quality items for cooking. All the appliances were really nice. Gas stove which is great for people who love to cook. The patio with the BBQ pit is very nice too. The dishes and cups and wine glasses were pretty. I would add a few more coffee cups. 6. All the bathroom and kitchen amenities were of HIGH quality which is a BIG plus. 7. We are close to Montclair Village which is a nice area to walk around and shop and eat. The only place we ate was the Montclair Egg Shop which was INCREDIBLE. In fact we ate breakfast there twice because it was so good! A few things to note: 1. This property has LOTS of stairs. It was a drag with all our luggage. Just note if you have health issues about stairs because this would not be the place for you. 2. The washer and dryer are in the owner's house on the floor above. So not practical to use. Fine for our short trip of 5 days but might be an issue for you. 3. The master shower is challenging to use. We didn't like it. However, the other shower was fine so no problems. 4. There is not a regular heating system. It probably doesn't get cold enough to worry about it. We were comfortable the whole time. 5. There is street parking only. However, we didn't have any trouble parking close to the house. 6. The second bedroom is right by the entrance door. Might not be good if you had kids with you.

Heaven's Door

The property was clean and had everything we required for a short stay in the area. The host was very helpful and the goodies basket was a very nice touch. Having the main entrance through the second bedroom was a bit of a challenge, and the beds were firm for my taste but livable. The appliances / bbq worked great and the patio was a nice place to enjoy a glass of local wine in the evenings. The proximity to shopping and the BART was good, allowing us to travel in and out of SF easily.

The combination of views of the trees in the hills with the waters of the San Francisco bay, make for a unique blend of mother nature with a closeness to the urban life of the bay area.
