Located in tranquil rural France, yet only 30 minutes from the closest Pyrenean valley and 55 minutes from the Atlantic coast, this is a great destination for your next holiday in France.
Nestled in a peaceful hamlet that straddles the river separating the Bearn region from the Basque country, Maison Thyarre is a large and spacious farm house typical of local Béarn architecture. Full of unique rustic charm and set in enclosed, established 5,000 m2 gardens with a swimming pool, Maison Thyarre makes a great holiday home for groups or extended families, accommodating 10 people.
The house is a great spot for enjoying long lunches or dinner parties around the solid wood table in the kitchen, barbecues on the sheltered terrace in the garden, or simply long afternoons lounging around the pool.
The gardens are entirely enclosed with river stone walls and make a real playground for children who can enjoy the swings and have plenty of space to run around and play games.
Maison Thyarre is within walking distance (5 min walk) of the Saison river, a tributary of the Gave d’Oloron, one of France’s most famous rivers for salmon and trout fishing, and the part of the river near the property is excellent for paddling, swimming, barbeques and picnics.
The lovely medieval village of Sauveterre de Béarn is a five minute drive away and the chateau and monastic remains provide for interesting day trips. From the top of the village you can enjoy beautiful views over the river and the Pyrenean mountain range. The village has a supermarket, chemists, bakeries, cafés & restaurants.
Other nearby villages also have their own good restaurants, and fresh food and regional favourite products can be purchased in the many traditional markets held weekly in Sauveterre-de-Béarn, Salies-de-Béarn, St Palais, St Jean-Pied-de-Port or Orthez.
Maison Thyarre is a great place to rest and share good times with friends and family and its fantastic location provides something for everyone.
Nearby activities include hill walking, mountain climbing, pony trekking, golf, white water rafting, surfing, skiing, kayaking, canoeing, hand-gliding, horse riding, treetop adventure parks and hot air ballooning.

Family favourite

Super rustic property with everything you need for an excellent family stay. All the family really loved it here. `wouldnt change anything. Great for relaxing and being together and also as a base to explore the area.

Spacious traditional property with lovely garden

We had a great time at this property. Very easy to deal with the housekeeper and amazing garden for kids. Rooms were all spacious and owner had left lots of useful things for baby and to deal with flies and mosquitos. We were very grateful to housekeeper for lease of fans during heatwave! Strongly recommend renting the property which is in great location for day trips. Would recommend requesting extra cleaning of the pool (as offered by housekeeper) and checking jets are working as changes made in our final week meant far less surface scum.

Séjour très agréable

La maison Thyarre correspond tout à fait au descriptif de l'annonce. Maison bien équipée dans un cadre ancien bien mis en valeur. Grand espace de jeux pour les enfants. Emplacements ombragés pour la sieste des adultes. Piscine sécurisée bien entretenue.

Grande maison, super séjour!

Véritable maison ancienne et authentique avec de belles pierres au sol et un vrai parquet ! La maison est super bien équipée aussi bien au niveau de la cuisine, que du salon (avec jouets...), avec une armoire dans chaque chambre soit une maison familiale ! La piscine est sécurisée, grande et de profondeur variable. Le tout entouré d’un grand jardin bien entretenu. Sans oublier le professionnaliste de Sandrine et Danielle ainsi que leur gentillesse. Merci!

We were twintig families in one house. Loved the space, in and out the house and the pool.

Lovely house with a magnificent garden. Owner always very responsive to any requests. House is magnificently situated in the Basque region. Nice trips to Bayonne, Biarritz and San Sebastian possible!

Beautiful house with pool in idyllic setting

Fantastic house with 5 large bedrooms. Well equipped character kitchen with direct access to shaded seating area and view of the pool. Mature garden with ample shaded areas. 3.5 km from village bar/restaurant with breathtaking views of the Pyrenees. The river a few minutes walk from the house is fantastic for picnics and bathing. The pool is excellent and well maintained. stayed here for the final two weeks in June with a party of ten. Weather was excellent with only one rainy day. House remains cool even on the hottest days. The surrounding area is very pretty and it’s easy to make day trips into the mountains or indeed to San Sebastian in Spain which is only 1 hour 20 from the house. The beaches around Biarritz are reachable in approximately 50 minutes. All in all an excellent location. Great house for family with children. I would thoroughly recommend it for a family vacation.

Lovely house with gorgeous garden and pool.

Great place to stay with kids or friends. Lots of room and a huge walled garden. We made great use of the pool and barbecue. The location permits day trips to the mountains and coast. The owner was very helpful. I would highly recommend this property.

Pour des moments fantastiques en famille dans le Béarn

Nous venons de passer 15 jours début juillet à 2 familles (9 personnes dont 5 enfants de moins de 7 ans) dans cette magnifique maison de vacances, au coeur du village calme et paisible de Rivareyte. Nous y avons trouvé absolument tout ce qu'il fallait pour y passer de splendides vacances. Bien qu'ancienne (ce qui lui donne un charme fou), la maison est très spacieuse - les chambres sont très grandes - et reste très fraîche même quand il fait 35 degrés à l'extérieur. Tout l'équipement décrit est présent et dans un excellent état, et tout est fait pour que la vie nous soit rendue facile. Par exemple nous avons même eu l'agréable surprise de disposer d'une chaise bébé et de lits d'enfants pour notre fille de 18 mois, ou de jeux variés qui ont plu aux grands comme aux petits. La terrasse est parfaite, la piscine est sécurisée et bien entretenue. En plus de tout cela, les personnes de contact sur places sont vraiment très accueillantes, très disponibles et aux petits soins de tous les hôtes de passage. Et tout le carnet de voyage communiqué par la propriétaire avant le départ est parfait pour tout préparer. Enfin, cette région est pour nous l'une des plus belles de France. Nous nous retrouvons au coeur de la nature et très proches d'une multitude de lieux autant variés qu'époustouflants : des hauteurs des Pyrénées aux plages ensoleillées de St-Jean-de-Luz, des fêtes traditionnelles aux grottes merveilleuses, du piment d'Espelette au jambon de Bayonne. Il y en a pour tous et tous les goûts. Vous rajoutez à tout cela un accueil fantastique et l'accent chantant des Béarnais et des Basques et vous avez là tous les ingrédients de vacances réussies. La tête pleine de souvenirs, nous n'avons désormais qu'une envie : pouvoir y revenir très vite !

Charming house and gardens in peaceful hamlet

Character house with large airy rooms set in a spacious garden with several specimen trees for shade and large areas for children to play. The pool was a feature and was very well used throughout the week. The house was extremely well equipped and there was a built in BBQ in the garden. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and we appreciated the food stocks that were left for us on arrival. The property was close to Sauveterre and Salies de Bearn, both of historical interest and with several highly rated places to eat. In addition the Pyrenees and coast are close and well worth a visit. All in all we had a wonderful week in Maison Thyarre.

Very happy holiday in ideal setting

We enjoyed our stay very much - my wife and I with our two sons, daughter-in-law and four boys aged 16, 13, 11 and 8. The weather was superb, the house well furnished and with everything we needed. The housekeeper lives only four minutes walk from the property and made herself readily available to ensure that we had everything we needed. The house was clean throughout. The pool was a great asset. It was of a good size. It was clean and cleaned once a week. We all used it frequently and the boys especially so. It takes about forty-five minutes to reach beaches around Biarritz, and forty-five minutes to one hour to reach high into the mountains. Stunning scenery and good walking. A number of attractive villages nearer. (All journeys by car). Our favourite village was St Jean Pied de Port. The river (five minutes away from the house) was also used several times by the boys. We would certainly recommend Maison Thyarre and everyone (from 8 to 75) came away feeling that it had been a thoroughly good holiday.

Tolles Haus für Familien mit Kindern!!!

Wir waren mit sechs Erwachsenen und vier Kleinkindern im Alter von 1-3 Jahren vor Ort. Das Haus ist ein herrlicher Platz um in großer Gruppe eine schöne Zeit zu verbringen! Die Schlafzimmer sind herrlich geräumig und großzügig! Durch die Fensterläden kann man jedes Zimmer auch komplett abdunkeln, was gerade für Kinder ideal ist. Der Pool ist umzäunt, ein wahres Geschenk für Eltern, so konnten sich die Kinder frei auf dem parkähnlichen, komplett umzäunten Grundstück bewegen, auf dem es neben dem herrlichen Pool auch noch eine Schaukel und eine kleine Ruine zum Erkunden gibt. Das Haus verfügt über eine Waschmaschine und Wäschespinne, so dass man auch easy mal nebenbei waschen kann. Eine herrliche große Wohnküche, in der wir wegen einigen Regentagen auch unsere Abende verbrachten, bietet genügend Platz für ein gemeinsames Essen am Tisch!!! Draußen laden Grill und der überdachte Gartentisch zum Verweilen ein! Im Haus haben die Vermieter an alles gedacht: es gibt eine umfangreiche Hausmappe, in der alle Infos zum Haus und der Gegend zu finden sind. Es gibt neben der TV Lounge auch noch ein vorgelagertes Spielzimmer mit irre viel Spielzeug für Kinder....einfach Toll!!! Wir haben uns sehr sehr wohl gefühlt! Auch weil das Haus durch die wenig überladene Einrichtung wirklich Krabbelbabysicher ist!!! Eine wohltat, wenn man nach einer langen Fahrt ankommt... Der Kontakt zur Vermieterin und auch zur Housekeeperin vor Ort ist erstklassig gelaufen und sie war bei Rückfragen quasi minütlich erreichbar! Thank you, Sandrine & Danielle <3 We will defintely come to stay at Maison Thyarre again if we come back to the area!!! What a lovely hide-away you have!!!
