Staying at this rainforest Vrbo in Hawai’i was truly a soul-refreshing experience. Nestled deep in lush greenery, the property offered the perfect blend of comfort and adventure. Waking up to the sounds of tropical birds and gentle rainfall was pure serenity. The home was beautifully maintained, thoughtfully stocked, and felt like a peaceful retreat from the world.We loved how immersed we were in nature and yet still had all the modern amenities we needed. The host was incredibly kind and responsive, making sure our stay was smooth from start to finish. What a lovely, quiet, and friendly stay! My family was there for two nights and wish we had booked for longer. It was a quiet and cool retreat after our days of exploring and swimming. We loved listening to the frogs at night, and really enjoyed being rural for a bit of our trip.

Natur pur

Preiswerte, schöne und gut gelegene Unterkunft. Wir haben uns immer gefragt, was mit "Bildschirmen" im hinteren Schlafzimmer gemeint sein soll. Nun - es gibt keine verglasten Fenster. Die hinteren Wände sind nahezu komplett offen und nur mit einer Art Fliegengitter abgetrennt. Man schläft nahezu im Regenwald - inklusive der dazugehörigen Geräuschkulisse. Die Vermieterin hatte praktischerweise gleich Ohrstöpsel bereitgelegt. Haben wir aber nicht verwendet. Es war definitiv eine Erfahrung, die in Erinnerung bleiben wird. Bitte nicht falsch verstehen - die Unterkunft ist wirklich sehr schön. Die naturnahe Unterbringung sollte einem aber schon bewußt sein.

Such a beautiful place! The property manager Summer was really nice. The rainforest sounds are soothing and unique. The bungalow could be amazing, but there are too many issues. The final straw was when I stepped on a frog in the middle of the night on my way to the bathroom, it was so gross. We packed up and quickly left the next morning, which was a day early. -Cleanliness was poor, looked like something spilled on the counter and down the side of cupboard. The floors were sticky, dirty when we arrived, I mean hairy cobwebs in most corners(and windows). This was our big vacay, so we tried to be positive and got over it. -There were so many geckos in the living space, which was fun at first, but then we started noticing the gecko droppings. Poop on the walls, floors, counter, on place-mats, on our luggage. This is no small issue as geckos can carry salmonella, and it’s disgusting. I understand geckos can get inside, and they are hard to keep out. We saw so many inside it seemed the host doesn’t even try to keep them out. They need to take this seriously and not treat it like a feature. -Listing issues. We bought food to cook on the bbq grill, but it didn’t exist. No laundry facilities. No deadbolt. There is a bathtub, but no fill spout, only a shower head. -The fancy ceiling fan in the master bedroom looks nice but is functionally inadequate. That might not sound like a big deal, but it made the difference between a warm sleep and a sweaty sleepless night.

July Hilo Stay

This property and bungalow have tremendous potential, but they both need a little TLC. The hosts are extremely friendly and the check-in process was seamless. Unfortunately the screens, carpet and some of the furniture need some attention and a bit more cleaning. This open air concept is really enjoyable, but in this tropical humid environment cleanability is critical.

Fun with Frogs

We LOVED this place. It was magical! My kids and I loved staying in the screened in bedroom and hearing the coqui frogs at night. My husband was happy to have the master bedroom, which was a little quieter. We had enough space for all of us and our stuff to be comfortable, and enjoyed the treats and local bananas left for us! We didn't make full use of the kitchen, but it served our needs for the few meals and snacks we brought with us. It was a great location; never far from the locations in and around Hilo we wanted to visit, and yet was very quiet and felt like we had our own space in the rainforest. We also enjoyed chatting with Summer when our paths would cross in the shared driveway, and appreciated her local insights. Would highly recommend this home!

Thanks for welcoming us to rainforest bungalow. It was perfect for our two day trip to Hilo. The cottage was clean and neat and well stocked with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Mahalo!

Quiet an experience

This was so much fun sleeping in the jungle with the perfection of screens. Due to the screens, it is difficult to keep 100% clean but it was well kept. It can get loud in the early morning but you are provided ear plugs- use them. My family very much enjoyed this experience and would recommend to anyone that enjoys nature!!!

Jungle Oasis

Such a wonderful little bungalow and fabulous hosts! We loved our stay on the big island and really appreciated the notebooks chocked full of ideas for things to do in the area. The morning we were leaving, our host peeked her head over to let us know the Kilauea Volcano was erupting! We were able to make it just in time to see the eruption before we had to be at the airport. Thank you guys so much for the wonderful stay!

Our Stay at the Rainbow Bungalow

Hilo Big Island Adventure!

First off, the host was extremely responsive; we sent a question in the VRBO message app and she knocked on the door less than 30 seconds later. Location is fantastic; close to airport and volcano park and beaches and Alaska falls and Mauna Kea. Thé hours itself is quaint, comfortable and clean. The only thing to be aware of before booking is the « jungle » noises at night. Lots of birds and other noises all night long… I found it absolutely exotic and fun but can understand how some might not enjoy it as much. Most windows are screens only and do not have actual windows to block the sound.

Off the beaten path but close enough to be convenient

We loved that we were in the jungle and fully experienced the beauty of the island. We had all the amenities we needed. The cool tiled window seat that overlooked the serene landscape and moss covered statue was my favorite spot.

Lovely place

We loved this place. Everything was perfect. The place is very spacious. The beds were comfortable. It was very clean. There are several cats around the house which was great.

Was just what was needed

Nice convenient area not too far out of Hilo town. Nice property with all the basics, if you know Hawaii you understand the coqui frogs and the other things that just can’t be controlled. Host was very nice and accommodating.

✿ It's more economical than a hotel room with tons of great amenities at no extra charge, with cooking facilities to help you save even more money!

✿ Awesome location! We're just 4 minutes to town and close to all attractions on the windward side of the Big Island!

✿ Experienced and highly rated hosts - we're world travelers and we understand what guests want and need.

✿ Space! The bungalow is 3X larger than a hotel room with about 1/5th of an acre designated just for guest use!

✿ This is a unique property situated in the lush Pana'ewa Rainforest in Hilo - it's the only tropical rainforest in the United States and only these 10 houses in the neighborhood are allowed, due to a very old land grant.

✿ It's quiet, serene and filled with nature sounds of rainforest birds and Coqui frogs (who sing all night). Bungalow has several walls that are 'old Hawaiian style' that are screens only. These open areas allow tropical breezes to cool you off and give you the feeling of being out in the middle of the rainforest. Bungalow has a metal roof, so during tropical downpours, it's an amazing experience.

✿ Kids LOVE the bungalow as there is a large 20'x20' back bedroom with 4 beds and plenty of room for them to play!

✿ Bungalow has a kitchenette so you can save money (for fun experiences) and have some meals in. We provide island breakfast items for you to cook including rice, Spam, eggs, and some local fruit.

✿ This bungalow is the perfect spot for all your Big Island adventures - we are close to Volcano National Park, Mauna Kea, beaches, Hilo Airport, waterfalls, and the worlds newest beach at Issac Hale park (black sand beach).
