Casa Guarumo is a magical place for those looking for a family experience or with a large group of friends. This is the largest house in Monteverde and Santa Elena and is located in a privileged area, right in the middle of the cloud forest but also close to great restaurants and convenience stores. The main forest reserves of the area are very close and you can even reach some of them by walking from private trails from the same property. It is common to see hundreds of birds and many mammals such as sloths, howler monkeys, white-faced monkeys, raccoons, coatis, armadillos, agoutis, squirrels, hammers, and a variety of hummingbirds and bats. The different balconies of the house are ideal to enjoy the beautiful sunsets and relax listening to the wind, the rain, or the sounds of the forest. Spread out in the comfortable living room area, enjoy your favorite TV shows or movies, and take delight in a fun-filled afternoon. The kitchen is fully-equipped and has everything you could ever need to whip up the most delicious meals and snacks at any time. There is also a large social area that offers an outdoor firepit where you can sit and roast some s'mores or just share all of your adventures here in Puntarenas or enjoy a delicious outdoor cookout. Casa Guarumo is 100 meters from the historic center of Monteverde. Around this beautiful park, there is a mini-market of organic products and vegetables, a coffee barista, and a cooperative where in addition to handcrafts, they offer the best breakfasts and lunches in the area with typical specials of Costa Rican food. We recommend visiting the private natural reserves Cricancha and Bosque Eterno de Los NiƱos, just a 0.2-mile walk from Casa Guarumo. In addition to food recommendations, Stellas Bakery offers the best fusion pastry, and just 50 meters away is Tramonti, with its succulent Italian menu and the best handmade Monteverde pizza. For those who like chocolate, you can also visit a delicious gourmet chocolate shop just 50 meters from Tramonti and on the ground floor enjoy the best bat and vampire observatory in Costa Rica. Very near the park of Monteverde is the cheese factory where besides being able to acquire delicious artisanal cheeses, you can live the experience of a tour of the historic factory. Santa Elena downtown is only one and a half miles away and there you will have big supermarkets, drug stores, bank offices, and a vast variety of bars and restaurants.

Monkeys!!

Pros- well stocked kitchen, beautiful main area/family space, Jairo was nice and used his technology to communicate & monkeys that will take bananas right out of your hand if offered Cons- downstairs smells- stuff left in washer & both dryers - key situation wasnā€™t ideal (separate keys for all rooms with outdoor entries & only one key to family area) -no hot tub as listed- not within walking distance of town- more run down than pictures indicated- maid came at 8 am on checkout day Animals we saw: monkeys, armadillo, coati, agouti, bunny, squirrels, butterflies & tons of birds We enjoyed our stay overall- family dinners & game nights and again the monkeys were a once in a lifetime experience

Fantastic wildlife but house was targeted by thieves.

The property had fantastic grounds and wildlife including toucanets and monkeys. Unfortunately, it is a known rental property and is target by thieves. We visited for spring break and the house was broken into while we were out to dinner. We only left a few times for short trips prior to the break-in so we must have been watched. All doors were locked. The gate was also closed and locked. The thieves broke into the main buildings and stole all our valuables. It sounded like this was not the first time when dealing with the authorities. With that said, we did enjoy the property and the caretaker Jairo, was extremely helpful through the issues. He really went above and beyond. We would have given this a 1 star without his help.

Very cool place!

We were greeted by monkeys, doesnā€™t get better than that! Was a very cool space, one thing to note is the main living space has an open bedroom in it, but the rest of the bedrooms all require going outside to access. They each have their own bathroom, though, so wasnā€™t an issue for us. Super close to Stellaā€™s, went for breakfast both days we were there and it was delicious. Less than 10 minutes drive from the cloud reserve and about 15-20 to most other attractions. Could also walk to town if you donā€™t have a car. Highly recommend this place!

Serenity in the Monteverde Cloud Forest

We loved the uniqueness of this home. A birders paradise and loved the monkey antics. Walking to Stella's Bakery, the coffee shop across the street and the Vegan grocery was a bonus.

Unique spot, in a good way!

The property is in an excellent location, a short drive from Montverde. It has both indoor and outdoor fireplaces (we used the one indoors) and it was surrounded by wildlife and trees. Were were visited several times a day by a troop of capuchin monkeys who plated in the trees around the house. The layout may be a bit odd for some families, each bedroom has a separate entrance with it's own key. It worked fine for us, however. Really nice place, highly recommended.

Monteverde in April

It was a unique property, a lot to explore this huge million dollar property! We decided to cancel one of our planned activities just to enjoy the property. Jairo, the property manager was excellent and he and his wife cooked us a delicious dinner at a very reasonable cost.

Love Monte Verde and convenience of this place

Great property for convenience to so much. You can walk to a lot of places from here. Also, all bedrooms have their own entry from outside so this is a great property for people who want their privacy for separate groups, but can be difficult if you have your children and don't want them separate from you at night. Overall great stay!

An amazing property that would be great for large families.

This is an amazing property in the cloud forest. We were visited by monkeys, and numerous bird species including Toucan, parrots, and numerous hummingbirds. We hosted a dinner party and there was an amazing amount of serving and dishes. Had a wonderful memorable stay.

AMAZING CHALET IN THE CLOUD FOREST

We had a magical experience in front of the campfire doing BBQs. Lots of animals visited us. Monkeys, agoutis, coatis and even a sloth bear. The cabin is very comfortable and very well equipped. A few hundred meters away there is a wide variety of restaurants, shops and a supermarket with organic and vegan convenience products.

Gorgeous property, exceeded expectations!

Wow, wow, wow! We stayed with our 3 children, ages 17, 14, and 11 and were in awe of this property! The physical property was incredibly unique and inspiring in design, with something new to appreciate everywhere you looked. We loved having a fire to warm us in the main area at night and our 17yo loved having his bedroom located in a separate structure on the property. There would easily be room for a much larger group than our family of five and yet the five of us loved having this exceptional "home base" for our explorations in and around Monteverde. We also loved feeling nestled in the trees and seeing birds and other wildlife right outside the windows. There is a market and a few restaurants very close by and others within easy walking distance. I highly recommend this property. We hope to return someday!

Lots of space, distant rooms, loud rooster

We loved the living space, the beautiful lush grounds, the visiting monkeys, and the sneaky agouti. The house is a block from a bakery and a cafe. Like others have said, the bedrooms rooms are separated from each other and accessed from the outside. The main negative was a loud rooster that crowed every morning starting at 4am. I would book this place again only if I was assured that the rooster noise was addressed.

Magical Monkey Chalet

Our experience at Casa de Guarumo was beyond what we had expected! They met us there at check-in, they were so friendly and explained everything we needed to know. The house had everything we needed for our stay. The highlight of our entire trip to Costa Rica was hanging out with the capuchin monkeys on the porch! What an amazing way to wake up and a treat in the afternoon as well! We also had a coati visit and sighted a sloth high up in the trees! The birds and butterflies were also amazing. Maybe bring earplugs if you donā€™t want to wake early, there is a rooster close by that is quite vocal in the early hours of the morning and the monkeys sometimes have parties on the roof at 5am (but who doesnā€™t want to wake up to a monkey party?!). We saw more wildlife at our stay here than any of our tours! Would 100% recommend to anyone staying in Monteverde, we will be back!

This is the SPOT

Not sure how to fully convey this, but if you're going to Monte Verde with a group, this is the place. The pictures are a touch confusing- the property is up a hill walking distance to town. There's a big main house, a center pavilion, and an additional guest house. The main house is set up semi-hotel style, where you get to the bedrooms by an outdoor walkway around the property. Super cool, there's tons of privacy, the grounds are amazing (monkeys just show up on the porch..), and the pavilion offers a cool place for music, yoga, hanging outside, etc. Downstairs in the main house is a giant bar/disco area- so if you want to host your own party, it's ready. Checkin was super easy, there's a crew to help with the house as well. We hit the hosts up ahead of time and had a local cafe owner make us dinner when we arrived - literally the best money spent - when we arrived there was hot food on the stove. Incredible.

Simplemente Guarumo Monteverde es un bƔlsamo para el alma, una ecoterapia espectacular. La propiedad es encantadora, la casa mƔs equipada de lo esperado, con diferentes ambientes y propicia para cualquier evento, pasamos dƭas maravillosos y lo mejor de todo, los verdaderos dueƱos, los monos carablanca, nos hicieron gozar miles y en la noche, aquellos sonidos nocturnos son de fantasƭa, realmente hƭper recomendada.

Casa espectacular en el bosque nuboso

Escogimos esta casa para viajar con un grupo de teletrabajo de 8 personas. Guarumo nos sorprendiĆ³ con sus esplĆ©ndidas Ć”reas sociales que incluyen dos chimeneas, un bar discotheque, un balcĆ³n donde nos visitaban decenas de monos todas las tardes y amplios jardines para relajarse observando gran cantidad de aves, armadillos y guatusas. Un internet de 100 megas hizo nuestro trabajo posible y volveremos seguramente!!

Fun and spacious

Ā· This is a very unique property! Itā€™s large so it accommodated our party of 9 very easily. The rooms are all separate from each other, so thatā€™s a bit strange, but the living room/ kitchen is a very large space and comfortable to hang out in as a group. The kitchen is equipped with anything you might need. The balcony off the kitchen was a great place to sit each evening and feed the monkeys! Our kids loved how the monkeys took bananas right out of their hands. The manager, Rafa, was very attentive and met us there to show us the property and help if we needed any reservations for activities during our stay.
