Beautiful place in Ambleside

We loved our stay here. Parking was a little tight, but this is England. :-) We loved that we could walk into Ambleside. And the place was clean and beautifully furnished. Very comfortable and enjoyable. Thank you!

Visiting Lake District

The cottage was fine . The only problem we had was the boiler: we had to reset it every day and climb a small stair to reach it. It would-be approperiate to repay 15% from the rent.

Property needs deep clean and general maintenance: broken slabs, weeds and dead leaves galore, rusty patio sets. Broken lampshades/overheating lamp in bedrooms, faulty/broken shower controls, paint peeling off ceiling in en suite, leaking toilet in hallway, overall feeling of damp throughout. Comfortable sofas and beds and nice furnishings. Reasonably well equipped but damaged glass/plates in cupboard

Really sorry to hear that you were not happy with the accommodation and very shocked. We have used the same cleaners for years and if you read all the other reviews nobody has ever mentioned the property not being left perfectly clean and ready for use. The minute you made me aware of this that you were not happy I did offer to get the cleaners back that would've given them an opportunity to look over what you're saying also the maintenance issue the broken flags at the front are due to the fact that people park on the flags becauseis the parking is easier if they park on the flags and something we accept The other minor issues with the lampshade can happen at any time and if it's not reported what can I do once again really sorry you did not have a great time but I did offer to correct everything immediately

Lovely, modern place

Great location near a footpath up to Todd Crag, which has a spectacular view. Sitting room was exceptionally comfortable. Kitchen had everything I needed. Beds good too. Only concern was that parking was tricky. Probably would have been fine if I had a smaller car or it was my car rather than an unfamiliar rental but I was concerned every time I had to maneuver in the tight space. However, I did consistently manage it. :) Per plan, I moved to another place for the second half of my Lake visit and found parking challenging there too.

Lack of water to property

Flat very nice. Drive up difficult. Banging from water pump not pleasant. Lack of water because of damage to system by other cottage attached intolerable.

Spacious home!

We so enjoyed our time at the cottage. The description was accurate with the amenities. There are THREE bathrooms! It was great to have the ensuite ones for me/hubby and then the other for my mother-in-law. Yes, the driveway is not for the faint of heart, but you get used to it after a few days. About a 15-20 minute walk (stroll) into Ambleside. The weather was absolutely beautiful, so we were able to eat dinner outside on the tables provided. One suggestion we have is to replace the kitchen chairs -- they were comfortable but they're 'shedding' a bit and we kept finding pieces around the house. Perfect puzzling table in the kitchen. Great lighting. Comfortable beds. Really impressive water pressure. Thanks so much!

Frustrating and disappointing for us

WARNING - Keith and Helen (K/H) have a very strict change/cancelation policy! We booked 6 weeks in Fellside. A month after booking, circumstances required us to reduce our stay to 4 weeks. We gave K/H 2 -1/2 months notice. They told us they would re-list the two weeks (which they did) and they said they would work with us on a refund (which they did NOT). The 2 weeks did not rebook in the 2- 1/2 months that they were re-listed. We asked K/H to please refund the 2 weeks that we did not use or at the very least to give us a credit that could be used in the future. Our requests/emails were ignored. The cottage itself was nice - roomy, comfortable and well appointed (other than the kitchen, which was a bit sparsely equipped). However, it was plagued with a host of issues that continually had to be dealt with - to name a few: a bathroom that was unusable due to a very bad odor, a broken washing machine, numerous failed light bulbs, slow draining shower and sinks, a missing DVD player. To their credit, K/H remedied these issues with the exception of the strong decaying/dead animal odor in the bathroom, the source of which was never identified. However, it was annoying to have to deal with all of these issues, and surprising in a property as expensive as Fellside. The issues above are the reason for our 1 star rating. We rate our accommodations based on whether or not we would return. For us, having to pay for 2 weeks of unused accommodations has cast a dark shadow over Fellside and K/H - accentuating the cons and diminishing the pros of our stay. We do quite a bit of traveling. When selecting accommodations, we rely heavily on reviews. Therefore, we always try to take the time to return the favor by writing detailed reviews including pros and cons lists. Below is our cons and pros lists. Cons - inflexible change policy, quite expensive compared to other lovely cottages we have rented in Ambleside, lack of views, no Wi-Fi signal in the main bedroom, extremely steep windy driveway, difficult parking spot, main bedroom bathroom shower basically has one temperature and it makes a loud whining sound. Pros - comfortable living room, good size refrigerator/freezer, plenty of storage for food and clothes. We are usually so happy with our rental cottages and we have come away with life-time friendships with many of the cottage owners. In contrast, the experience with Helen and Keith has been quite frustrating and disappointing for us.

Dear Debbie and Phil We are very disappointed in your response,you were fully aware that when you cancelled the last two weeks of your booking (which We discounted down due to being a block booking ) if it was not re-let the terms and conditions would apply. We readvertised the two weeks at a cost to us and then reduced the two weeks to try and re-let them for you. We offered to provide a letter for your insurance, which you stated you had no insurance this is why you have lost financially all holiday let's have standard terms and conditions on cancellations. Regarding the other issues we are amazed as during the four weeks you stayed in the property you were sending us text messages saying how pleased you were with the property. May we suggest the next time you book a trip to England you purchase holiday insurance regards Keith and Helen

Ordentliches und räumlich gut aufgeteiltes Objekt in hervorragender ruhiger Lage. Gleichwohl ist der Ortskern von Ambleside gut zu Fuß zu erreichen. Knapp 2 km. Die Auffahrt ist allerdings sehr steil und bei regnerischem Wetter nicht bzw. nur schlecht zu befahren. Die Eigentümer haben sich hinsichtlich Anfragen schnell und kompetent gekümmert. Sie waren immer telefonisch oder via E-Mail erreichbar.

Lovely place

We had constant rain and flooding which stopped a lot of activity but the place was so comfy with great heating, showers, lovely beds, comfortable sitting room and good kitchen. A nice place to hole up and escape the weather with TV, music and games.

Lovely cottage and well appointed.

Cottage was lovely and clean. Some of the previous comments I’d read were accurate. The drive is a bit steep and if a few cars are in the courtyard it’s difficult to reverse. Well placed fir a 3/4 mile walk into town.

Lovely Property, Great Location

This property had everything we needed for our stay; it was well equipped and very comfy (I can’t remember the last time I slept so well, even after lots of walking and fresh air). It couldn’t have been in a better location, we hardly used our car as we were in walking distance of so many places: Watershead & Ambleside for shops and restaurants, Lakes Windermere, Rydal and Grasmere, and Loughrigg Fell for a gentle hill walk. Would highly recommend this property and definitely hope return again.

Very comfortable and well situated cottage

Very comfortable cottage and well situated to visit the Lake District. Kitchen well equipped, cosy sitting room and very good beds. Ambleside is ideal to visit the Lake District (Brockhole visitor centre, Wray Castle, Rydall Hall, plenty of walks...). There is a steep slope to reach the house/parking but also possiblity to park the car just beneath the house. Very helpful owners.

Great 2 Bedroom in the Lake District

When booking a place we always wonder if it really looks like the pictures & Fellside definitely does! What you see is what you get. We had family visiting and found the two bedrooms with nice sized living room and eat in kitchen was perfect. Plenty of space so no one felt crowded. It's about a mile from Ambleside, a perfect central destination in the Lake District and Windermere with it's larger stores is only 15 minutes down the road.

Great property in superb location

we stayed for a week over Christmas. Cottage is very well appointed, TV's in every room, 2 ensuite bathrooms and 1 shared toilet. The owners had taken the trouble to put up a Christmas tree plus other decorations. Only a 15 minute walk to town along footpaths. Parking is a bit tight but not a big problem, we had 2 cars. Access to hill walks with great views within yards of the property. We really enjoyed our stay

The cottage is lovely. Very spacious, clean and reasonably well equipped. A great location although the drive is very steep. A warm welcome from the owners. We had a lovely holiday.

Fantastic!

Very pleased with our accomodation! In a private area that over looks the countryside and lake. A well finished property that is extremely comfortable and thought through. Beds are amazing- slept very well during stay. Make use of the top private garden and one below beside small lake. Quiet and enchanted! 1 thing I would bear in mind for again would be that the drive way leading up to property is very steep with a tight turn into parking.. possibly not suitable for very large SUVs. However our long estate car did just fine!
