Over the last ten years we have been delighted to serve hundreds of families especially with our large space of 15 acres with access to nature trails in the woods, and animals including horses, dogs, chickens, ducks and sometimes bunnies. The home is a four bedroom family farm house overlooking a five acre meadow. The horses are in another 5 acre pasture above that meadow and the other animals are in a special protected coop near the house. We live completely separately in a house on hill above and we are available to show children how to feed the various animals. The two dogs are free range and extremely friendly. To describe the experience of being here our guests say it best. "Our trip was close to perfection," Louisa. "My family and I had an epic trip," Mukund. "The hosts went the extra mile," Rosha. "We were celebrating my parents 50th and had a wonderful stay at this magical house," Adrian. "We are two families with kids from 2-12 and there was something for everyone," Rebecca. " It was both energizing and relaxing to be in such nature beauty," Lori "The property itself felt like having our own estate," Mike. And finally a review that made us truly proud, "You will discover kindness and a quiet retreat at this magical place. Get ready to unwind," Gabriella.
Our property is completely private and we love to teach the children of our guests how to feed the animals if they so desire. In addition to trails the property also includes a cottage in the woods just for kids and is a place where magic definitely happens . There is ample room to explore all over the grounds. The home is well used, comfortable and ideal for families with children. There is a hot tub in the garden. There are four bedrooms total and two bathrooms. Two bedrooms have Queen beds and a back bedroom has bunk beds, a single twin bed and a crib. There is a fourth very small bedroom downstairs with a full bed. The two bathrooms--one with shower and bath connects to the master bedroom, the other between the two upstairs bedrooms with just a shower. All first floor rooms have doors that connect to the outside. One of our most favorite reviews begins with, "This property reflects an appreciation of childhood." Indeed we do create magic with the open spaces, swings, and of course the exquisite playhouse in the woods, and animals . We do accept dogs but no cats. We like to talk specifically with guests as there are certain rules and expectations to follow to make a visit successful for here for your dog. The vast yard is not fenced as there is so much opportunity for dogs sto run and explore. Due to the special nature and privacy of the property and surrounding hills the place has also been used for retreats, and other special occasions. We no longer do weddings but we love special extended family events like birthdays, anniversaries, reunions and sharing other special moments. At the same time we are concerned about water usage (we are on a welll) and hope our guests understand this reality. Also there are restrictions on large numbers of guests. As with all decisions this is a discussion.
The special cottage in the woods is where children can play creatively and independently was inspired by the concept in the book The Last Child in the Woods, that documents the universal need for intimate connection to nature and for independent fantasy play for children. The cottage is surrounded by trails leading to an open meadow of five acres. There is also a suspension bridge! Young children can access the coop to collect eggs with parental supervision. Many children including our grandchildren spend hours in the chicken coop. We also show guests how to safely feed carrots to the horses.
There are panoramic views of surrounding hills and the Bolinas Lagoon and access to nearby trails in open space and parkland. One mile from the town of Bolinas which has two miles of beachfront and locally caught fish in season, abundant organic produce and organic meats. The property is also just three miles from the Audubon Canyon Ranch where one can watch seals and all kinds of bird life on Bolinas Lagoon; and 10 miles from Point Reyes Park HQ with its extensive trails, beaches and wildlife and 12 miles from the town of Pt Reyes. One half mile from the house is a local organic vegetable stand on the honor system. It is paradise!
