Welcome to Moonlight Retreat, a beautifully renovated 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom, single-level home nestled just outside Highlands. This peaceful getaway offers mountain views and is perfectly situated—close enough to enjoy the charm of town, yet far enough to provide a tranquil retreat.

As you step inside, you're greeted by a bright, open space with tasteful décor that invites relaxation. The living room features comfortable seating, an electric fireplace for those cozy evenings, and a flat-screen TV for your entertainment. The newly renovated kitchen, located just off the living area, boasts modern stainless steel appliances, a wide variety of small appliances, and is fully stocked for all your culinary needs. The breakfast bar comfortably seats three, and tucked away is a hidden closet with a front-loading washer and dryer for your convenience.

The primary bedroom offers a spacious king bed and ample closet space, while the guest bedroom features a queen bed with additional storage. Both rooms share a stylishly updated bathroom with a walk-in shower and a modern finish. Moonlight Retreat is the perfect spot to enjoy the serene beauty of the mountains while staying close to town. Your reservation includes a damage protection plan. The damage protection plan is $50, and it covers up to $3,000 in damages. In lieu of purchasing the damage protection plan, guests have the option to choose a refundable security deposit. If you would like to pay a refundable security deposit, please contact us. The security deposit is $500 and will be administered subject to the NC Tenant Security Deposit Act.

*The reservation includes a pet fee by default. If you are not traveling with a pet, please inform us, and we will remove the pet fee after you book.
*If you plan to bring a dog, please note that the maximum weight limit is 50 lbs, as per the owner's policy.*

Great communication and wonderful, updated "secluded" property. Comfortable bed! Note that the bathroom/ shower is very small and we had some water "spitting" issues with the bathroom sink... But overall, really enjoyed our time in this beautiful mountain cottage. Cell service on Verizon was non-existent (could facetime and text) but worked on AT&T. We would stay again!

This is a nice property to relax at and enjoy the scenery around the home. Not too far from town and we enjoyed our time completely. The home is small but bright and modern, the bed was comfortable and the kitchen was sparkling clean.

My wife and I stayed for a full week and had a pleasant stay. The property was exactly as pictured, and presents well. The bed in the main bedroom was extremely comfortable, and the kitchen was well supplied (although the Ninja coffeemaker requires having an advanced degree). The internet was spotty at times and slow, but that's to be expected in rural areas.The house is perched up on a hill and is surrounded by forest, with a clear view of a nearby mountain. Our favorite activity was sitting on the comfortable patio seating watching fog form over it in late afternoon while sipping wine. On a few days we were lucky enough to get some heavy rain and thunderstorms.The location is exactly five miles and 11 minutes out of town. Highlands has many excellent restaurants and great hiking trails, and a very nice downtown area to walk around.

This is a small modern vacation property/home. The interior is very clean and visually appealing. Beds are very comfortable. Several outdoor seating areas are available. Here are a few areas for improvement and/or constructive criticism: the one and only bathroom is quite small and I’m guessing because of air in the pipes, at times, the water wall forcefully “spit” out of the sink, spraying you with a good bit of water.There is no functioning icemaker. Cell phone service is nonexistent and the Wi-Fi is spotty. If you desire to be “disconnected” from technology, this is a good place for you. If you really depend on technology, then this location will be quite a challenge for you. The fenced in area outback seemingly was a good place for a dog, but our dog quickly found her way beneath the fence and escaped to the woods for a 20 minute adventure. Fortunately, she returned on her own, but not without some stressful moments. Be aware, medium and smaller dogs can easily escape to the outside world. The views are decent, but we really felt like we were more in a rainforest than at a mountain home. Tons of woods and foliage blocked a lot of the potential views.It is 5 miles from downtown Highlands and the last 0.5 miles are on a very windy, hilly gravel road that is not easy to navigate. Because the heavy rains during our stay, we witnessed parts of the road wash away/erode over the course of just one day. Overall, a nice property, but has some limitations.

Thank you for providing feedback regarding your recent stay. Our Maintenance Team will address the water issue with the sink. As part of the Southern Appalachian plateau, Highlands, NC is classified as a temperate rainforest and receives abundant precipitation. Our area doesn’t have the best cell coverage, and we do understand how that can be frustrating when a guest needs to be more reliant on web-based technology. It was great! My one suggestion would be to put a small 2 top bistro table and chair near the window facing the driveway, for a little extra seating at meal time. We had 4 of us traveling, and one person had to stand or eat alone.

My wife and I enjoyed our short stay at Moonlight Retreat. The house was very clean and well furnished. Although small, it was fine just for the two of us. It is very secluded and quiet. We were not able to see or hear any other residents and could hear very faint road noise. It is a bit difficult to get to and I don't sugguest going in for the first time after dark. Overall it was a great experience for us.
