Bird House: Fully Renovated Vesuvius Cottage

Tucked away among the trees but still close to everything, our cottage gives you that perfect Salt Spring escape. "Bird House" has been a longstanding B&B cottage on Salt Spring Island for 30 years, recently completely renovated and updated to offer modern comforts.

Have your morning coffee on the deck listening to birds, wander down to Vesuvius Beach for a swim or sunset, or pop into Ganges for a meal or want to browse local shops. It's quiet enough to recharge but connected enough to enjoy all the island offers.

No Car Needed! One major bonus: Bird House Cottage can be easily reached by public transit, by foot from the Vesuvius ferry, or by bike—you don't need to bring your car! This lets you avoid the long waits for the ferries (car traffic) during the busy summer months.

Located in the charming Vesuvius community, our property is just a 5-minute walk to Vesuvius Beach—perhaps the best sunset spot on the island. The beach offers community tables, chairs, and large driftwood benches for comfortable lounging while watching the sun fade over Vancouver Island. Best of all, the water here is warmer than other beaches for anyone who wants to take an ocean swim.

The cottage is bright and cheerful with lots of windows facing south, so you get great light and views of the surrounding forest. We've set up comfortable beds, a kitchen with everything you need to cook (and all new appliances), plus a modern bathroom with a nice walk-in shower. The heat pump keeps it cozy in winter and cool in summer, and the WiFi is solid if you need to stay connected.

We've put together a small collection of books about Salt Spring and the Gulf Islands if you want to learn more about the area, and stocked some coffee, tea, and basic cooking supplies so you don't have to rush to the store right away.

The cottage is all yours during your stay, including parking spaces, a private deck, and an outdoor area. We live on the property and are happy to help with anything you need or share our favourite island spots, but we're also big believers in giving guests their space.
