Potter’s Point is named in honor of Rick Potter, my husband, and the father of our three amazing adult children. Rick absolutely adored the lake and loved sharing it. In honor of his memory, I have chosen to open the doors of this wonderful home to those seeking a respite during these hard times. In turn we will also receive a blessing by being able to maintain Rick’s dream.
Rick passed away in 2017 of colon cancer, he was only 54 years old when he was diagnosed and 59 when he entered his eternal life. Rick asked me to continue helping and so we encourage everyone to be screened by age 50 in honor of Rick.

The land here on Potter’s Point and the peninsula was originally purchased by a group of friends. The group decided to take a chance and purchase what was hoped to be lake front property one day. At the time Lake Wedowee did not exist but the plan to create it by Alabama power did. In 1981 the group put their names in a hat, and each drew out the parcels of land that would be their own to sell or build on. Our piece was drawn by Mr. and Mrs. Langford. The gamble paid off and in 1983 the Langfords along with their group of friends all became lake front property owners on lake Wedowee in Alabama. Thrilled to have a private lake all to themselves the Langford's build a garage to house their boat and added a small bathroom for over night stays. The bathroom is still part of the house today. Later they built on to the house in a unique and creative fashion, first a living room and later the upstairs.
Thirty-three years later the Potter Family fell in love with Lake Wedowee. Wedowee is know as one of the cleanest lakes in the southeast. We purchased all three acres and the home from Mrs. Langford as she was headed to live closer to her children. We were thrilled that Mr. and Mrs. Langford had owned the property from it's inception and we were its second family. Our first weekend at the lake we watched our young adult children turn into kids again. It was one of the most memorable experiences of our life. We hope you will experience as many good times as we have through the years.
