This is not just a rental—it’s a piece of history that the owner, Connie, has lovingly preserved. The School House was the perfect spot for our vacation. The property is beautiful, peaceful, and quiet, and the attention to detail throughout the home was exceptional. Everything was spotless and thoughtfully maintained. Connie was an absolute pleasure to work with and went above and beyond to make sure our stay was wonderful. We truly enjoyed our time here and would happily return!

Comfortable house in beautiful farm country. The owner and caretaker are friendly and extremely helpful. It's well equipped for cooking, with just about anything you might need.

A great reconstructed historic school

This is a great place to stay in the middle of an incredibly area of rolling hills and big skies. The property is huge with many will maintained working trails. The kitchen is large and completely supplied with implements for cooking. The landlord is incredibly nice and helpful.

Cosy NYE Escape

This stay was just what we needed as a family. We were looking for an escape from the city on NYE weekend. This location met all of our needs - it was in the country, so away from the fireworks but close enough to nearby towns to enjoy a day of sightseeing in both NY and VT. It was lovely to read about the history behind the schoolhouse, and overall the character of the building added something special to our stay. It had everything we needed and more, and we had a wonderful experience.

Old School Upstate & Chill

Our third time in the little ol’ school was great again. The property has everything you would ever need for a longer or shorter stay. You could live there and feel like kings in the country. All details are perfect. And the surrounding meadows are getting even prettier with new flowers, a terrace and bbq. The great white oak watches over you.

Comfortable wintery stay

A very comfortable, well appointed place for 2 people. It was warm on arrival. The kitchen is fully stocked for making delicious meals. The bed is very comfortable. The area, quiet and peaceful.Just general warning if staying in this area during a snow storm : it's on small roads which get plowed less often than the bigger roads and there are chances for a power outage.

The School House

The photograph doesn't make clear how beautiful the hills, fields, and woods near the School House are, with walking trails on the property. This was our second stay. It's comfortable and amazingly well supplied with just about anything you might need--paper goods, sheets and towels, spices, coffee and tea. Good pots and utensils and nearby farm stands make it a pleasure to cook there. The owner is extremely helpful.

30th anniversary get-away

Beautiful country setting. The fall colors were glorious. The schoolhouse itself was comfortable and so cozy. We had everything we needed and more. We felt so at home there, and looked forward to getting back each evening after a day of exploring. Our only regret is that we didn't make it out to the beaver pond and white oak tree, due to weather. Other than mother nature, our stay was excellent!

Intentional home, not a cheap flip for rentals. Truly the most conscientious and thoughtful VRBO or rental home we have stayed at in over 13 years of regularly traveling. A central location for us to visit many communities we were interesting exploring what the hype was all about; NY City, The Berkshires/Lenox, MA, Catskills/Woodstock NY, Southern Vermont. Fantastic kitchen with all the cookware, utensils, and space we needed. Perfectly quiet, very peaceful, a loved historical home and land.

Life in the rolling hills

I simply can not say enough about how wonderful our stay has been. So hard to explain how the integrity of the old school house has been restored while it also being updated, clean and new inside. The home was spotless and has every amenity you can imagine. The host, Connie is a dream to work with and has put so much love and attention to detail into this very special place. Our dog loved roaming the property and was tired out every night. We will definitely be back.

Arlo Rates The Schoolhouse -"All Paws UP"

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Buskirk Schoolhouse. The setting was pastoral and changed with the light. The home renovation was both beautiful and functional. From the bedroom sanctuary to the main level that looked out on beautiful agricultural land from every vantage point - the home surpassed all our expectations. Our pup also enjoyed his time- finding cozy corners to nap and trails to explore. He thoroughly loved our walks - both on the property and while visiting historic sites a short drive away. The location is perfect for walking, running, and cycling. The grill and outdoor patio made meal prep a breeze! And the well stocked kitchen, trail guides, and excursion suggestions were so helpful and appreciated. We are already looking forward to our next visit!

What a wonderful experience! An utterly charming property in beautiful country, great communication with our host (and a very helpful "book" to fill things in when we arrived). Anything we needed was there and easy to find; the house was clean and comfortable (having the AC already on after a heat-wave drive was awesome); and our dog, Bear, gave the couch a great review by passing out on it immediately. All three of us loved our stay and can't wait to return. xo
