The Sugar Maple

Escape to Misty Glen. Enjoy the freedom to do absolutely nothing, wander aimlessly through our secluded private wilderness, or explore a variety of nearby venues for outdoor adventure and high country village experiences.

A modern mountain retreat in Ashe County, NC’s amazing High Country. The serene property is nestled in the forest with amazing mountain views. This 1200 Sq ft house sleeps six. One king bedroom, one queen bedroom, and a very comfortable, high-end queen pull out sofa. Bed linens are top quality European fabrics.Two elegant bathrooms are creatively designed to provide privacy for all.

If you need additional sleeping space for your group, check out renting our sister property also, The Buckeye at Misty Glen. It's just a short walk up the hill and also sleeps six.

Modern and rustic furnishings create a uniquely authentic environment for the most discriminating traveler.

This is a new vacation rental house on gated property in a remote corner of Ashe County, North Carolina. The Sugar Maple was completed in November 2020 and is elegantly furnished inside and out. The 18 foot vaulted ceiling great room has a wood burning fireplace.

The main floor is elevated in the trees, with covered decks and mountain views. The south deck has dining seating for six, and the west deck, which includes the cedar hot tub, has very plush and comfortable seating for entertaining and relaxation. Stairs lead from the west deck sitting area to a globe fire pit, nestled in the forest and to the lower sitting area. There is also a north deck that features a large sectional sofa, a chaise lounge, and a gas grill.

The kitchen is designed for cooking and appointed with all necessary tools. There is indoor dining seating for eight.

The ground level features "The HIdeway", a room with a big screen TV, a full size sofa and chair, a small refrigerator, and a small pool table/table tennis/hockey game table. Vintage neon signs and decorative ceiling tiles create a really cool place to "hideaway". Outside this room is a covered area for entertaining and dining, complete with a picnic table and four adirondack chairs .

We have the absolute best time at The Sugar Maple. The kitchen was stoked with everything needed that you can imagine and there were so many games for the kids. My husband was so excited that there was plenty of firewood and we didn't have to worry about stopping to get any at any point of our stay. We got to see some beautiful deer on the trail next to the cabin as well. We had some great family time and loved the location. Thank you so much for having us!

You Won't Want to Leave

Another great time at the Sugar Maple. Brian, Robert and their caretaker Beth are friendly and accommodating. The house is well-designed, built and furnished, with everything you need for a relaxed stay. The outdoor spaces make it even easier to enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding countryside. And this may be the quietest spot we've ever stayed. Can't recommend the Sugar Maple highly enough.

Beautiful property and home

We almost exclusively stay in VRBO properties when we travel. Without a doubt, this property had the best stocked kitchen ever and made fixing meals so easy. The welcome goodies were also a nice surprise and much appreciated.

Excellent get away

We loved our stay at the Sugar Maple! What a wonderful home with fantastic views. The hill is a little steep, so you may want to consider an all wheel drive vehicle during the winter. Loved it and will be back!

Beautiful Mountain Retreat

This is our second time staying at Misty Glen and it was just as amazing as the first time. The property is beautifully situated, and the owners have thought of every single detail to make the house comfortable. Fabulous!

We loved our stay so much. The view is gorgeous. The surrounding nature is so peaceful. The cabin is beautiful. The beds are comfortable. The hot tub is awesome! The mini pool table is fun enough. Our only recommendation would be one more cozy couch in the living room. But we hope to be back even without that!

Exactly what we needed

My husband and I were so very pleased with the home, it’s setting, and all the amenities. We did not even need to eat out as we were able to prepare whatever we ate at the house. The views were perfect, and we spent most of the time on the decks reading and enjoying the outside peacefulness. We hope to be back again.

Beautiful In Every Way

This was our third stay at Sugar Maple and we continue to enjoy it more and more each time. The comfort of the house and the beauty of the property is exceptional. We were fortunate to meet the very welcoming owners, Robert and Brian. The property manager, Beth, lives nearby and is quick to respond to any questions. Perfect modern cabin

This was our second time staying at the Misty Glen cabins. We stayed there just five months ago and were looking forward to getting back for another stay. Our second time did not disappoint. The cabin was very clean, well stocked, very comfortable bedding and furniture. Plenty of room for our family of six. A well stocked kitchen, nice appliances and a fire place ready for a wood burning fire. We kept the logs going with the super chilly weather this past weekend. Thank you for having us and we look forward to getting back again!

Misty Glen Retreats, The Sugar Maple, May 2025

The Sugar Maple at Misty Glen Retreats is truly a hidden gem in the mountains of Lansing, NC. Accessed via a private country road, this rustic modern cabin sits high on a hill overlooking the valley below. We arrived after dark and the lighting along the outside walkway, steps, wrap-around decks, and the interior made the cabin very welcoming. The main door enters into the spacious vaulted ceiling great room that includes a living room with burning wood-fireplace, dining area and well appointed kitchen. Large glass sliders look out over the front deck to the valley below. The interior design provides a fresh perspective on the classic mountain cabin. There is a tasteful mixture of traditional country and modern furnishings and artwork throughout the cabin. Both bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms with glass enclosed showers. The mattresses are very comfortable, enabling a good night’s sleep after a long day of exploring the countryside. Individual privacy doors separate the two bedrooms from the great room making the cabin suitable for two couples. There is abundant outdoor seating on the decks for outside gatherings and dining, as well as a hot tub and fire pit.We feel fortunate to have discovered this beautiful mountain home. We enjoyed every minute of our stay at the 5-STAR Sugar Maple. It will definitely be our first choice for lodging upon our return to the area. Thank you Brian and Robert for providing such a charming home away from home.

Gem of a Spot!

This property is an amazing spot on earth that the owners have obviously taken a lot of time, care and intention in creating. There are multiple hang out areas for all the people in your group. The cedar hot tub is wonderfully situated with serene mountain views and there are plenty of walks to go on without getting in your car. Everything inside is so well appointed and welcoming. Truly a sanctuary...
