This 50 m² duplex apartment is named after the watchman of Riquewihr, who once used this very staircase to reach the rampart walk. Built into the 1500 AD medieval wall (listed as a Historical Monument), this place offers total historical immersion.

Restored according to our "Healthy Luxury" philosophy: 🌿 NATURAL MATERIALS: Local wood treated with plant infusions, lime plaster, cork insulation, and eco-friendly paints. 🎨 DECOR: Authentic hand-painted furniture and traditional Alsatian Kelsch fabrics.

Located at the level of the former rampart walk, this floor includes: ✅ SPACIOUS LOUNGE: A 25 m² relaxation area with antique woodwork. ✅ ALSATIAN "STUB": A traditional dining area converted into a fully equipped modern kitchen.

💤 ATTIC BEDROOM (2ND FLOOR)

Nestled under the magnificent 17th-century exposed framework: 🛌 FLEXIBILITY: One large double bed (or twin beds on request). 🛁 COMFORT: Private bathroom with WC, carefully integrated into the historic structure.

Charming and elegant vacation rentals of the Rempart of the Year 1291

They form a set of 6 exceptional lodgings around a small garden: 4 of them are located in an old Renaissance house built in the year 1580 on the first rampart of Riquewihr erected in 1291. The property faces the famous vineyard the Schoenenbourg which dominates the village; 2 other apartments complete the series in an adjacent house dating from the 17th century.

All these lodgings have been designed to meet the new 5-star standards for the furnished tourist apartments category.

A small garden with a medieval design gives an exquisite touch of refinement to this original ensemble.

The holiday homes of the Rempart of the Year 1500

A set of 3 romantic, elegant and comfortable lodgings, decorated in the purest Alsatian tradition. These exceptional lodgings are located on the second belt of ramparts of Riquewihr, completed in the year 1500.

The walls on the west side of our gîtes are made of the rampart itself. The facades on the east side have the appearance of typical Alsatian half-timbered houses. They are quietly located.

Charming apartment

Spent 4 nights in this charming apartment. Riquwihr was busy during the day, but it was lovely to stay so close to the centre and enjoy the town after the day trippers had gone. Accommodation was comfortable and equipped with all we needed.

Sehr schöne Wohnung

Die Wohnung ist sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtet und es fehlte ins an nichts. Die Lage ist sehr zentral. Man öffnet die Tür und steht mitten in Riquewihr. Einfach genial. Ich kann die Wohnung sehr empfehlen.

Gut erholt...

...haben wir uns in der seht gut ausgestatteten und geschmackvoll eingerichteten Wohnung. Riquewihr selbst ist atemberaubend schön und liegt in einer wunderschönen von Weinanbau geprägten Landschaft. Aber auch Ausflüge über schöne Passstraßen in die Vogesen sind lohnend. Die Abwicklung war seht gut organisiert und die Kommunikation war sehr nett und unkompliziert.

Wohlfühlort mit sehr freundlichen Gastgebern

Wir hatten einen wunderbaren Aufenthalt in der schönen Ferienwohnung in Riquewihr. Die Wohnung ist mit viel Liebe zum Detail eingerichtet. Die Gastgeber sind herzlich, freundlich und entgegenkommend, vielen Dank!Unser kleiner Vierbeiner durfte auch mitkommen;) Riquewihr hat eine schöne historische Altstadt mit vielen Gässchen, kleinen Läden, Cafes und Restaurants und ist umgeben von Weinbergen. Der Ort ist ein guter Ausgangspunkt um die Umgebung zu erkunden. Colmar liegt nur 20 Minuten entfernt.

Quelques jours en formation dans ce charmant village , j'ai séjourné dans un duplex d'exception , un vrai nid à la décoration cosy et de très bon goût . Un savant mélange de traditions alsaciennes et de douceur shabby. De la cuillère au peignoir , rien ne manquait pour passer un séjour au top! Bravo!!!!

Mon Amie et moi même occupions L'appartement "La sentinelle". Cadre original et très Accueillant, confortable. L’équipement est moderne et complet. Le tout nous a permis un séjour très agréable.

Disappointing apartment

My husband and I found The Sentinel to be a very disappointing experience. The apartment is lovely to look at, but unfortunately we found the bed to be miserably soft and uncomfortable. While the furniture looks nice, it is worn and uncomfortable as well. The apartment is adequately equipped and has many extra touches; it is a shame that the furniture does not match the rest of the apartment's charm. Unfortunately our stay was plagued by constant rain making it even more frustrating not to be able to come home and be comfortable. The apartment was very clean. The Sentinel is on the second floor with very steep and narrow steps. Requewihr is a lovely town and the Alsace region is beautiful. The town of Requewihr is a good place from which to explore the area.

Thank you for letting us know about your stay in the Sentinel apartment. We try very hard to satisfy our visitors but it seems it did not operate this time. We are sorry for that but it gives me the opportunity to clarify some points. About the bed: It is new (2012). Some people like a bed to be soft, some others firm, some even very hard. As many different people use our beds everybody will understand that it is impossible to match 100% of all expectations. We have the same bed at home. I find it perfect. My wife finds it by far too hard. We have chosen the beds made by a very well-known company specialized in bedding for hotels. They have a long experience: the bed should be reasonably firm, but not too hard. We took their best product. Some of our guests even wanted to purchase the same bed for their home! A new couch was installed in the living room last year by a well-known furniture and home design company. It is firm, hard even. The rest of the furniture can be seen on large pictures on our personal website. The cupboard in the living room is a genuine XVIIIth Century Alsatian piece newly restored. Same for the wooden painted box under the TV. The 3 tables, one in the kitchen the 2 others in the living room are authentic traditional Alsatian furniture. The armchair is a 19th Century famous Voltaire type (but with a seating recently reshaped). The 2 tall lamps near the TV and the couch were specially made for us by decorators using two authentic 18th Century wooden columns. The chairs are traditional hand-crafted Alsatian chairs. So yes, all this is worn. Worn by centuries of history written in the wood. We thought it would be a pity to furnish this very historical place with some unstylish modern and - yes probably more comfortable - pieces of furniture. Alsace is a region with a strong cultural and historical identity. The vast majority of our visitors comes especially for that kind of experience. The Sentinel is a historical place in a national heritage house. Some steep steps take you up from the street to the first floor (second floor for the US), at the same level as the former covered defence way of the ramparts! As described on our web that steep stair case is a piece of history. If this was an issue why not choose another of our 14 places? Yes bad weather is putting down one's mood. This year it seems all of Europe had to face unexpected cold and rain. We thank you for your indulgence.

Die Tage in "La Sentinelle" waren wunderbar - ein großartiger Ort für Ruhe und Entspannung, dazu noch perfekt eingerichtet, man fühlt sich sofort wohl. Einrichtung und Ausstattung der Wohnung sind auf höchstem Niveau.

Vacation Perfection in Riquewihr, France

The Alsace region, the town of Riquewihr, the Sentinel apartment, and Jean-Paul and Martine provided us with an outstanding vacation experience - one that has stolen our hearts! The Sentinel apartment is as charming in person as it is online. It’s lovely, well maintained, well equipped with everything you need, and warm and inviting - the perfect home away from home. If you are in need of anything, a simple phone call to Valerie is immediately answered. Jean-Paul and Martine provided brochures and other information about the region which was extremely helpful in planning and getting the most out of our vacation days. With its location between the Vosges mountains and the vineyards, Riquewihr’s ambience is positively enchanting. The wines produced in the region are superb and the food is spectacular. We loved every restaurant we visited in Riquewihr. We would especially recommend Le Sarment d’Or for the food and experience and the outstanding wines of Maison Zimmer (Au Tire Bouchon Winstub). Plan on spending a substantial amount of time exploring Riquewihr and all it has to offer (like the open market on Friday!) and also venture out to Colmar, Ribeauville, and Strasbourg, as well as just about any other nearby town or city - each is unique, beautiful and rewarding. If you get the chance, meet the artist Christian Schwob, who created the artwork in the Sentinel, and perhaps purchase one of his pieces to memorialize your vacation. A highlight of our vacation in Riquewihr was the kindness and thoughtfulness of Jean-Paul and Martine. For a truly unforgettable vacation make your reservation in Riquewihr with the Krebs! Don’t wait another minute or you’ll miss the opportunity - their apartments book up quickly for a reason!

Hochwertiges, sauberes, mit Liebe zu Detail...

... eingerichtetes Apartment. Wir haben uns unglaublich wohl gefühlt und eine entspannte Woche im Elsass verbringen können. Wir haben selten - auch zum Beispiel im Hinblick auf Küchenutensilien - ein so vollständig ausgestattetes Feriendomizil gemietet. Zudem ist die Betreuung durch Vermieter und Verwalterin ist vorzüglich: klar, präzise, pünktlich, ohne Missverständnisse.

Wunderschöne, Romantische Ferienwohnung

Der Aufenthalt in der Ferienwohnung "Die Wache" war einfach genial. Die Wohnung war genauso liebevoll und romantisch eingerichtet und mit einem tollen Comfort ausgestattet, wie im Internet beschrieben. Die Wohnung ist sehr sauber und einfach nur zu empfehlen, für romantische Tage, zum Wandern und um die kleinen Dörfer rund um Riquewihr zu besichtigen. Die Vermietung und die Abwicklung war sehr nett und sehr gut organisiert. Wir hatten einfach eine wunderschöne Zeit und werden ganz sicher wieder kommen. Grüße aus dem Saarland

Vielen Dank für Ihre Bewertung. Riquewihr im Elsass ist ein schönes Reiseziel im Sommer aber auch im Spätsommer (Weinproben!) oder im Winter (Weihnachtsmärkte). Sonderpreise in der Nebensaison (November, Januar - März).

Sehr geschmackvolles, gemütliches Appartment

Diese Unterkunft ist absolut empfehlenswert. Geschmackvoller kann man ein Appartment kaum einrichten. Wir wären gerne noch geblieben, aber dafür kommen wir im Herbst wieder. Lobenswert ist auch die professionelle Abwicklung.
