THE OAKLAND NORTH! ACCOMMODATES TEN GUESTS! 4 BDRMS/3 BATHS! NORTH BEACH!

The Oakland North is our home and is available for rent to mature, responsible and respectful families only. If you are looking to rent a place to host a party of any sort, please do not consider the Oakland North. We ask all of our guests to be very considerate of our neighbors and keep both voice and music levels to a minimum. We thank you in advance for your cooperation with being both good guests and good neighbors while staying in our home.

The Oakland North is a historic landmark building which was built in 1927 and originally known as Mendelson's Oakland Hotel. In the 1970's it was converted into two separate residences and the north half provides over 2200 square feet of beautiful living space. There are four (4) spacious bedrooms (two queen beds, one full bed and the fourth bedroom has two sets of twin bunk beds) with three (3) full bathrooms. Note: We added an ensuite master bathroom on the second floor in Spring 2023. It is both beachy and beautiful!

The Oakland North boasts all of the original architectural details of a bygone era including ten foot high ceilings, arched double hung windows with true divided lights, original oak hardwood flooring on the entire first floor, heart pine wood flooring on the second floor, stain grade millwork trim throughout with operable transom vents above the second floor bedroom doors. The feeling of the home is truly unique and feels as if you are in a historic turn of the century beach house. The finishes, fixtures and furnishings all add to the overall casual relaxed feeling and remind you that you are 'away from it all'.

While we love animals, we respectfully ask that you please leave your pets at home. Please do not ask us if we will make an exception to this rule.

Please check our availability calendar to see if your desired dates are available. If your dates are not available, send us a message anyway. We might be able to accommodate your family at one of our other homes.

Wedding bliss

We flew in from NYS for a weekend family wedding and the house was perfect to accommodate the 7 of us. It had plenty of towels for everyone! The house was spacious, clean and tons of couches to relax and watch some weekend college football before our family wedding. We would definitely rent here again should we come to town again!

Amazing

Oakland North is a beautiful, historic, yet renovated home. It had everything. We can see the lake from the front on the house.....so sunsets were spectacular. Plus it's not many steps to slip down the the beach concession for a blue moon ice cream cone!! Highly recomment.

Perfect location in a Beautiful Home

We were 2 families of 5 with children ages of 11-18 and this home lent itself perfectly to accommodate all of them. The home is full of charm and was perfectly appointed with all you’d need. I especially enjoyed all of the extra bedding and towels on sight and fans in the bedrooms. The home is located perfectly between the town and the beach. Very walkable. The kids were able to “do their own thing” while still being close by. Communication with Michael was easy and he was very responsive. If we could give this home 10 stars we would. We hope to be back again next year!

Beautiful, comfortable and well placed

We love staying at the Oakland North! We have stayed here before and love this place. The owners are welcoming and responsive and their home is gorgeous, cozy and luxurious. The place is fully stocked with everything you need for cooking, entertaining, and relaxing. Out the front door is a view of Lake Michigan and gorgeous sunsets over the lake, and out the back is a view of the marina and the town across the river. There are also cozy outdoor spaces for relaxing both front and back. The neighborhood is awesome for walks, with the beach and the riverwalk right outside. This home is also in easy walking distance from a beautiful park, the marina and charming downtown South Haven. If you're more adventurous, there are also a number of great parks and trails nearby. We were lucky enough to catch the end of the fall color on this trip and took a leisurely hike in a nearby nature preserve - truly beautiful! We look forward to our next trip to South Haven! Thank you, Oakland North!

Wonderful place to stay!

My family and I stayed at this property and had a wonderful time! The location is unbeatable- 2 minute walk to North Beach and an easy walk into town. The house comfortably fit 7 adults and 2 children and was very clean. The living room was spacious and the kitchen was updated. The back deck made for a great second outdoor hang out for the family. The host was easy to communicate with and the check in/out process was seamless and easy. Would stay again!

Perfect Getaway

The Oakland North was perfect for our group of three couples and four teenage girls. The girls loved being together in the bunk bed room. The beautiful beach is just a block or so away. Fun shopping and restaurants nearby. We spent part of a day in Saugatuck which is just a short 20 minute drive north. Highly recommend!

Best rental ever!

The house was just beautiful and had everything you could need. It was large, beautiful and homey. The kitchen and appliances, as well as the upgraded bathrooms were amazing. The host was very communicative and available for anything we might need but they supplied more than we needed. We will definitely be back and rent again. It was a short walk to the beach and close to restaurants, brewpubs and the other places like Saugatuck and Douglas that we like to visit. South Haven has such a nice beach as well as great restaurants, shops and bars. We loved the bakery right down the street.

Michigan beach property

This property is right across the street from North Beach in South Haven, Michigan. This is our second year renting in South Haven. We love this area - so much to do. This neighborhood is safe, quiet and close to the beach, playgrounds and marina. The house is a renovated 1927 hotel. New and old together in this property. 4 BR upstairs. 3 Bath. Works for a crowd. We had 9 people - extended family group.

Great Location, Clean and Tidy

Very cute place to stay with easy access to beach and downtown South Haven. Family room into kitchen set up was great. Front patio area was a huge bonus to sit out with drinks and watch sunset. Very clean and tidy. Definitely would stay here again.

South Haven a Summer Beach Gem

Oakland North was a well appointed and well located place to stay in South Haven. Our family's week enjoyed a delightful summer vacation there only a block or so from North Beach. I can easily recommend this lodging.

We enjoyed our stay at this house. There was plenty of room for everybody! If and when you get new beds I would get king beds in my opinion. We are use to king beds so the beds seemed small. The great thing is your right down the street from Lake Michigan (like 1 min)! This place is awesome!

Great place for a family vacation

We (and our kids) loved the Oakland North! Great location (short walk to a park and even shorter walk to the beach), and great space for children to play both inside and outside. Ideal sleeping setup for families, as there are multiple rooms that can accommodate couples and our kids loved the bunk beds!

The Oakland

Michael is a wonderful host. We had a issue with dirty dishes but it was probably done by previous renters. Michael didn’t know about it till we told him. It is a wonderful location and a great place to stay. I would stay there again.

Great family house!

We really enjoyed our long weekend at this house with some of our kids and grandkids ! Lots of room to spread out. We loved the history of the house and the character. So close to the beach we walked there a few times each day and walked to Bunde’s Bakery every morning. Owner was always quick to respond to questions! Very clean too!

We All Love It!

I have rented a number of South Haven summer homes. This year, my daughter, son-in-law, son, and almost 14-year-old twin grandsons got to The Oakland North (our first time) before my husband and I did. He and I were greeted with huge smiles and shouts of THIS IS FANTASTIC! IT'S SO NICE! HURRY UP AND COME IN! And so we did to a week of clean, comfortable, spacious, well stocked accommodations. We appreciated the washer and dryer, the parking in the back for two vehicles, the front porch and lawn sitting areas, the back patio with its sitting and eating area, the grill, the grassy play area, and the lovely flowers. There's WiFi, cable TV, books, and games. One can easily walk to the beach, downtown, and all places in between. Michael Biedermann is a pleasure to deal with. The very best thing I can say is that we're going back to the Oakland North next year!

We are parents of four teenagers. We wanted a beach house to escape from the hustle and bustle of every day life and focus on family.

Historic Monroe Park is our neighborhood which is directly adjacent to the North Beach on South Haven's North Shore. The key to this location is there are no huge hills nor endless staircases to climb up and down when going to and from the beach. Kind of an important thing to remember with small children and grandparents who want to join you down at the waters edge.

Remember… 'Location. Location. Location.'

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

We enjoy the easy access to the North Beach as well as the less than ten minute walk to downtown South Haven. Once the groceries are purchased, there is no need for your car again. Even if you do need something from the store, you can walk two blocks to North Side Memories which is a small, privately owned convenience store and deli. We have said it so many times but it is true... once you cross the draw bridge, it feels as though all of life's struggles seem to be lifted. We hope you are able to experience the same feeling!
