Murphys Hideaway offers great views, a peaceful location on over 5 acres and all the comforts of home. The location is private and scenic and is minutes from downtown Murphys. The house has AC, three comfy queen beds and linens, a kitchen with gourmet utensils, 2 TV's, BBQ (both gas and charcoal), and a wood burning stove with wood provided. The spacious rear deck provides a large, comfortable outdoor living and entertainment area with consistently stunning sunset views. The house is well furnished and has all the amenities to make your stay as comfortable as possible including old time Hunter ceiling fans in every room. If cooking while on your vacation is not your idea of fun, a variety of restaurants are minutes away. The house has satellite TV service , wireless internet access, games, washer and dryer, linens and is furnished with beautiful antiques. An assortment of animals and many bird species can be viewed regularly from the back deck including hawks, deer and rabbits. The neighborhood is sparsely populated which means there is not a lot of traffic. The roads in the neighborhood are great places to walk or bike. Mountain biking both on road and off road are right out the front door. The Arnold Rim Trail has access points located nearby. Murphys Hideaway provides a tranquil and restful getaway after your day full of the local activities the area has to offer like visiting Big Trees Park (home of the 2000 year old Sequoias), wineries, caverns, antiquing, shopping or hiking.
IRONSTONE WINERY in Murphys has a great summer outdoor concert venue.

Great vacation property with a great view

We love sharing this house with it's expansive view. In addition to the fabulous sunsets, wildlife in the area is abundant for viewing and often observed from the deck..

Lovely getaway!

We love this place! It’s the 2nd time we’ve been here with our dogs. It’s safe for them on the raised & enclosed deck. Hubby loves the AC and the quietness of the area. Close enough to Murphys if you want to mosey downtown. It’s cozy and quiet and comfortable. We plan to return next year!

Awesome stay on the hill

What a fantastic place! Super clean, beautifully remodeled, completely stocked with every amenity you might need, awesome deck, amazing sunsets... Excellent location if you enjoy sweeping panoramic views, no next-door neighbors, and don't mind a 10-minute drive into town along a back country road.

Awesome winter getaway !

Our family really enjoyed staying in this cabin. It was recently renovated, everything is nice and modern, and very comfortable. Loved the location, it's nice and secluded. We were able to take some great walks along the snow packed meadows and hillside. It was a pleasure working with the owner, and plan on coming back !

Nice mountain home, rustic feel.

Overall, nice stay and very responsive owners. Very pretty location, feels isolated, but close to town. We had extreme heat, however, and it didn't get quite as cool as we would like in the downstairs bedroom--probably be fine even in normal heat Not fancy, but nice and cozy.

Comforatble home, close to downtown Murphys

Murphys Hideaway is a very comfortable home and super clean. Five (adults) went out on Friday for a long weekend. We were all very happy with the house and the accommodations. Pretty windy road up from downtown, so we stayed in for the evenings and cooked so we could all enjoy local wines. Day trips were super easy and the locals in downtown we all really nice. Great small town feel. Gerri was super easy to work with, fast on email responses and quick to return a phone call. We will definitely be back!

We should have read the reviews first

First of all this is not in Murphy’s. This is 20 minutes outside Murphy’s. Second, while this cabin may have beds for 6 people, we would not recommend it for any more than four (including dogs). We were disappointed by the cleaning before our arrival. There was food in the bottom of the fridge and freezer, and the floor was dirty, too.

We are sorry to hear of your disappointment during your stay. The map included by VRBO clearly shows the location of this rental. It takes about 12 minutes to get to Murphys if you go via Sheep Ranch Road. We have had groups of 6 guests stay quite often with no complaints. Most reviews mention how clean the space is upon arrival.

Scenic Getaway

Just a lovely home away from home. The enclosed & raised deck was exactly what we needed for the dogs. The AC was fantastic and well needed for the 100°+ temps. Kitchen & bathrooms are well stocked quite clean. Beds are comfy and outdoor seating are cozy. We definitely plan on returning next year. Road coming up here is PAVED, just a bit patchy in some spots. Quiet and cozy, just exactly what we needed. Owner is very quick to respond, even with an unexpected small snag that resolved itself in a timely manner.

Serene Getaway

We had a wonderful 3 night stay at Murphys Hideaway. Even though the temps outside were in the high 90's-100, we stayed cool inside with the AC. The mornings on the back deck with my coffee & book were heavenly! The evenings on the deck seeing the night sky was incredible! I forgot how it is to see all of those stars! It is out of town and very quiet. If you are looking to getaway from it all, this is the place. The ride into town is about 18 minutes so if you are looking for something in Murphys proper this is not the place for you. We loved being away from it all. The communication with the host was great. The place was very clean and comfortable. We would definitely stay here again!

Everything you need

We loved the house. The setting was gorgeous. The house had absolutely everything that you need. The rooms were pretty spacious and comfortable. CONS: No AC. Although, there are lots of fans, we had to cut our vacation a day short because the heat was unbearable and made it impossible to sleep at night. The road from Murphys is horrible!!! Better drive a bit further down on 4 and turn on Avery Sheep Ranch Rd and then on the street of the house.

We appreciate the kind comments regarding the beautiful setting and furnishings of the house. With regard to Sheep Ranch Road from Murphys, it is a paved country road and one would expect a windy, rural, mountainous road to get to a remote setting which is one of the great appeals of this property. So yes we concur that the Sheep Ranch Road method of access to the property is rural and mountainous albeit faster than the alternate and less windy access via Highway 4 to Averys and to the property from there. With regard to the summer heat in CA at this time of year there's no question that the heat may not be comfortable for some people. From our review of the national weather service data at the time of July 1 and 2, 2017, when it was deemed too warm to sleep, the high for the day was 91 degrees and the low for the day was 57 degrees. At 9:55 PM the temperature was 68 degrees. We understand it could and can be too warm in the house for some to be comfortable sleeping shortly after sunset. The information given to guests right before their arrival encourages those staying in the house during warm periods to help manage possible heat buildup in the house by using the provided blinds and automatic Sunsetter awning during the hottest portions of the day.

Lovely getaway retreat!

Murphy's Hideaway was such a relaxing and restful place. I went there by myself with my little dog to relax and recharge. It was perfect. Off the beaten path for sure and so quiet. No traffic; just the birds and that great view off the deck. The kitchen was very well stocked. There were thoughtful touches like a basket of trail mix and granola bars near the door to grab on your way out for your daily activities and water bottles in the fridge. There were even extra dog bowls in the mud room for the pets. I had no lack of anything at the cabin and hope to return again soon! As previous reviews may mention, the road out to the place is definitely rural. I'm not from an urban area at all and drive country roads all the time, but I was thinking much of the time that surely I was on some back forest road that my GPS mistakenly routed me to and that I couldn't be on the "real road". Turns out I was on the right road, so don't be alarmed if you think you took a wrong turn! But the remoteness of the road is what helped make the property so peaceful!

We are glad you found some peace at Murphys Hideaway. There are two different ways to get to the property. One route has less rural roads and more of Highway 4. I send that information to guests however the fastest way is the more rural road. At least there are choices. We hope you come back!

Country home in remote setting

Stayed two nights in the Murphys Hideaway home for a weekend getaway with two girlfriends. We arrived to a glorious sunset on the deck with a beautiful view of the country side. The house was spacious for three adults with one bedroom downstairs and a loft type setting upstairs with two seperate sleeping quarters. The stairs were a bit narrow and could prove tricky for any guests with physical disabilities. The home is in a remote area which requires a drive on a narrow country road. I read a previous review about the uncomfortable heat in the home, and I would concur 100% with that statement. My friends and I are from California and we have experienced our fair share of heat in different parts of the state. But the heat in this house was unbearable at night; the owner provided oscillating floor fans and the rooms had ceiling fans but they provided little relief. I ended up sleeping on the couch downstairs because I could not bear the heat in the upstairs area. Needless to say, we all experienced very poor sleep over the weekend.

We're sorry that the floor and ceiling fans didn't help you enough with the heat of this exceptionally hot California summer. Although we could not do anything about it this year, we plan to install some mini split air conditioners before next summer as it appears this global warming is here to stay. Perfect Hideaway

We loved staying at this charming, very clean, and well stocked home with its spectacular views! We came for a weekend dog show in Angels Camp and only wish we could have had more time to explore the charming towns and wineries. I hope to come back soon for a relaxing getaway as this is such a perfect location!!!

Hidden Gem

While I wouldn't say this is technically a Murphys rental, it's close enough to count. And, boy is it cute! The views are forever and the home well appointed and stocked. Easy convos with the owner and quick responses. Would definitely book this again.

Amazing view and super clean!

What a view!!! This house is a little out of the way, but so worth the drive! Super quiet, beyond clean and an amazing view. My boys were even impressed with the sunsets. We did stay when it was over 100’ outside and my only negative thing to say about this house was it was hot. I would definitely stay here again!

Quiet

The property was just what we were looking for. I have not liked being around cities during the 4th of July, for many years, so we were looking for a quiet place to go. This house/cabin was perfect. It was very comfortable, the three a/c units kept it nice and cool on some pretty hot days. The kitchen is nicely stocked if you want to do any cooking. The beds are comfortable. Overall it's a great quiet place

Perfect hideaway

My wife and I were needing of a getaway and a place to celebrate our anniversary. This place was perfect for some quiet time and recharge our batteries. The place was just big enough and the owner responded quickly to any questions we had. The ambiance of the property made it feel like we were at home.
