Sun on the Brow Cottages - Sun Set Cottage

Welcome to ā€œSun on the Browā€. Situated on the border of two of Ontarioā€™s great cottage regions South Frontenac and Rideau Lakes. Opinicon Lake is part of a series of lakes navigated by water travellers of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Rideau River/Canal System since the late eighteen hundreds. Davis Lock to the south draining into Sand lake and beyond towards Kingston, and northerly through Chaffeyā€™s Lock into Clear Lake and towards Ottawa. ā€œSun on the Browā€ is a beautiful setting of four cottages on a property total of 11.25 acres with over 750 feet of lakefront. The Cottages are set on a point of approximately 1.5 acres.

ā€œSunset Cottageā€ is a charming summer cottage. Newly renovated 2023. The Cottage has the best of both options. It has a big wrap around deck, with views of Bay Side of the property. A quiet place to watch the wildlife in the Bay. Your choice of a Hammock for two or two Muskoka chairs. Sun Set Cottage also comes with a Dock on Opinicon Lake. Either option is yours to enjoy. The cottage has A/C, Wifi, and Netflix. This cottage has two bedrooms, and a Sleeping Loft nestled into the original beams of the Cottage. The Prinamary bedroom has a Queen bed. The Second bedroom has two single beds. The Loft has a Single bed. Fresh linens are provided and the beds are made (after all, who wants to start a vacation making beds?). Sunset Co,ttage has a fully equipped clean and bright kitchen with a fridge, stove, microwave, and Coffeemaker (*coffee included*). The main room has a dining area and a cozy seating area to relax or watch the big screen.
Landscaped recently, the cottage now has a viewing area overlooking the bay, a hammock for relaxing, a BBQ as well as a Fire Pit with seating.

The cottage has its own dock on the Lake side of the property with Muskoka chairs for relaxing the day away.
We also have a Kayak Shack where you will find 7 Kayaks, 2 Paddle boards, a Paddle boat and a Canoe for the guests to enjoy (adult life jackets supplied).

ā€˜Sun on the Browā€™ also has a shared Boathouse retreat. This 900-square-foot common room has a pool table, table soccer, air hockey, games, puzzles, and books with a panoramic view over Lake Opinicon for those who want to curl up or get together and take in great views and family fun. The boathouse is great for rainy days, chilly nights, and storm watching.

Opinicon is a peaceful lake but amenities are all close by. Less than 5 minutes away is Chaffeyā€™s lock. Here you will find 2 marinas, Brownā€™s and Franklinā€™s. Browns has a small general store and an LCBO/Beer store outlet.
The historic ā€˜Opinicon Innā€™ is the main attraction in Chaffeyā€™s Lock. Three restaurants with indoor and outdoor dining, an ice cream shop and 10 acres of beautiful grounds are the framework of this recently refurbished and renovated charming Inn**
For hikers, cyclists, and nature lovers, the ā€˜Catarqui Trailā€™ passes through Chaffeyā€™s on the north side of Opinicon Lake. For more experienced hikers Foley Mountain in Westport offers a variety of trails with a range of difficulties.
Numerous golf courses are within 20 minutes to get your swing on!
Shopping and strolling in the lovely waterfront villages of Newboro and Westport are also less than 30 minutes away with stores and restaurants and even a wonderful winery that serves delicious wood-fired pizza!

There is plenty of room for your boat at ā€˜Sun on the Browā€™ (If you have one- boat launching is available at both marinas in Chaffeyā€™s lock). We also have 3 small fishing boats for rent (boat and fishing license required). The water is crystal clear and warm as Opinicon is not a very deep lake. Water shoes are recommended as the lake bottom is not sand, and is true to the Rideau Lakes reputation of being weedy.

A lovely cottage in Lake Opinicon. Several outdoor seating areas with lots of privacy and a well equipped kitchen. We did not use the loft bed, it's up quite a steep ladder. Comfy mattresses if a little on the soft side for me personally. There are kayaks and paddle boards for guests use which is fantastic as the lake is really beautiful to explore. Bill and Kim are lovely and super welcoming. Highly recommend.

Summer 2025

Excellent property, with modern, clean amenities and a wide variety of outdoor activities. The teens enjoyed the boathouse with the pool table and air hockey in the evening. Bill and Kim were very welcoming and quick to reply to our one minor question. We canā€™t wait to come back another time!

As always a great place to stay. Huge thunder storm the first night. Power was out out for 2 days. Kimberly and crew went out of there way to connect generators and keep them running. Was 40 with the humidity. They were awesome.

Stunning Cottage Retreat

My wife and I had a very relaxing stay at Sun on the Brow - Sunset cottage for our 5 day stay. We slept in and enjoyed the extreme quiet for this time, which is what we needed. The Games room was also a lot of fun as we enjoyed several rounds of air hockey during our time there. Excellent mini vacation with the only point I would say needs improving is access to the water from the dock. Thanks again, Kimberly and Bill, for a wonderful stay! Mark & Debra

Back again!

This was the second time weā€™ve stayed at sun on the brow cottages. The cottage was lovely before but now has a new kitchen and deck. We had a great week, out on the water everyday in the kayaks and on the paddle boards. The kids love the boathouse, the dog loves the field, itā€™s win win! Kim and Bill are great hosts. Canā€™t wait till we go back again!

Excellent spot for peace and tranquility

The Sunset on the Brow Cottage and stay was fantastic! We both have stressful jobs and needed some peace and quiet to just relax! This is the perfect location! My husband loved the fishing and canoeing, my 14 yr old loved the paddle board and my rest and relaxation was achieved just by sitting on the dock reading. Cottage was extremely clean and updated ! The hosts were very accommodating and friendly! Highly recommend this location and hosts ! You wonā€™t be disappointed!

Perfect in every way

Well appointed, everything supplied even coffee, sugar, oil, Sā€™More Kits, kayaks, canoe, paddle boat, paddleboard, fire pits with wood, chairs, a dock for each cottage. Weeds in the water and no ladders on the docks when we were there to get in and out of the water. Beautiful grounds and views of the water and islands and wayerlillies. Peaceful and quiet.

Amazing lake, wildlife and property

My husband, young adult son, teen daughter, dog and I all enjoyed our 4 night stay tremendously. The activities in the boathouse were well used by us all and we loved sitting on the dock, kayaking as well as observing and hearing the wildlife. My son saw otters playing in front of the dock and while kayaking we saw loons up close. We heard coyotes in the distance a couple of nights which was amazing. The sunset cottage is quaint and comfortable. It is as described and newly renovated. Kim and Bill were always responsive and friendly with any questions we had. We enjoyed the welcome gifts of a little bottle of syrup, soap, and sā€™mores kit. My daughter claimed the loft area as her own and loved it. The master bedroom has a sliding door onto the back of the wrap around deck where we enjoyed relaxing and having coffee or snacks. We found the A/C unit very handy and effective the one day we used it. We chose this cottage partly because of the amenities such as the kayaks and boathouse activities. We were more than pleasantly surprised by the beauty of Lake Opinicon and the surrounding area. At Chaffeyā€™s locks, a quick easy drive down the road, we enjoyed ice cream, pizza and sunset viewing of a bald eagle fishing and a blue heron taking off. The drive to Chaffeyā€™s locks never disappointed as we usually saw a few deer grazing. Newboro and Westport are an easy drive away if you want to browse the shops.

An oasis of calm

Kim and Bill made our experience very seamless and easy. From the personal welcome at check in to the many little touches that made our vacation special, the hosts and this beautiful property exceeded our expectations. Every cottage comes with high quality linens, towels & kitchen utensils and the unit was very clean. A very helpful booklet provided a wonderful overview of the amenities available. There is plenty to do with pristine hiking trails and waterways on the property or nearby. Cottages are nicely spaced apart and offer privacy to enjoy your time as you wish. We would not hesitate to recommend Sun on the Brow cottages for couples like us or for a fun family adventure. Our little toy poodle was welcomed with open arms which we very much appreciated too. Lots to do at Sun on the Brow

Kim and Bill couldnā€™t have been nicer - even taking us out (with our two dogs!) for a trip around the lake in their boat. The cabins have access to a canoe, pedal board, paddle board and plenty of sea kayaks which we took out every day. Boat house has air hockey, pool table, board games and plenty of tables and chairs to gather. Fully stocked cabin complete with replacement propane tanks for the BBQ, plenty of firewood, and even coffee and everything needed for campfire sā€™mores! Every cabin has their own dock, hammock, picnic table, fire pit, BBQ, and plenty of Muskoka chairs.. We would definitely recommend!

Amazing Get Away

Kim and Bill are fantastic hosts and made us feel incredibly welcome. The cottage has all the amenities that you need and the property is so lovely. We already have plans to come back next year.

Nature and family time

Kim and Bill are lovely hosts. We enjoyed our stay. The cottage was clean and well-presented. It will be nice for guests when Sunset Cottage is also renovated, as the renos on the other cottages are wonderful. Loved the deer, turtles, toads and nature. We also had fun at the Opinicon Inn for dinner, ice cream and morning pastries. Only disappointment was the amount of seaweed and algae in the lake making swimming difficult. However, once we took the kayaks and paddles boats out into the lake, we swam there. Thanks for a great stay!

Bill and I purchased the property in September of 2020. We live here and have been renovating and adding our own touch. We share the space with our two dogs. ā€œLolaā€ our 13 year old Golden Retriever who enjoys cuddles and long naps anywhere, and Rideau our Black Lab whoā€™s 2 and has no idea how charmed his life is.

O que faz essa propriedade ser Ćŗnica?

Opinicon Lake is on the Rideau Canal system. Both a UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Site of Canada.
It connects Ottawa to the St. Lawrence River near Kingston ON. The Rideau is 202 kilometres long. It is one of the oldest continuously operated canals in North America. Out of the 47 Locks on the canal 24 are still hand operated. Lock 37 ā€œChaffeyā€™s Lockā€ is one of theses.
