Absolutely beautiful home on the lake! The beds were so comfortable, and the layout of the home is perfect for families. Lake Santeetlah is a hidden gem, and this is the perfect house to experience the peaceful beauty.

The house has a beautiful setting and the decor was to my taste. Even the art work was individually meaningful. I loved the owl plate on the shelf. House was very well equipped with anything you’d need from toy cars, my granddaughter’s favorite, to the well equipped kitchen. It truly is a lovely quiet spot with many areas to gather. My daughter and son tried the paddle boards and the kayak and I could watch from the upper deck while the baby was sleeping.

Wonderful lake retreat!

Only wish we could have stayed longer, what a lovely weekend retreat at the lake, everything we needed was right there in the home and we had a wonderful time.

Great Christmas Vacation!

This property is absolutely stunning from the scenery to having everything that we needed. It was comfortable and cozy! We would definitely come back!

Second Stay

This is our second stay at Little Hickory. We have loved both stays. The house is clean and plenty of space for a family. It is on a very quiet cove with a nice dock to fish or launch your boat/SUP.

Beautiful and Peaceful

Family vacation 2023

The house and location were amazing!! The kids a a blast swimming off the dock. We all enjoyed the kayaks and paddle boards! Communication was great!! We would highly recommend this property!

Loved it. Kids had a ball on paddle boats and playing the Wii and pool. Never have seen a place so totally stocked. Was a wonderful stay.

Quiet relaxing stay

My family and I loved our time here. The house had everything we needed as we did cook in (and grill out) every night. We had a boat so having a dock was a plus! We enjoyed the pool table and fishing off the dock. The quiet nature surrounding us was absolutely perfect. I would recommend to anyone wanting to spend time with family and never feel the need to leave the location.

Perfect home base on the lake

Perfect spot on a beautiful lake. Couldn't have asked for better accommodations. The home is clean, well equipped for lounging, cooking, large dock for swimming and boating - really the perfect home base and setup for our long weekend lake visit. We'll be back!

Beautiful place

It’s a very cozy stay, the view from the deck is very pretty and private. Everything in the home worked great. It’s a little tricky to get to the first time, once you make a trip too the store it’s really simple to get back. Also, the sleeping arrangements were great. I stayed with a lot of people and nobody had any trouble sleeping comfortably. Certainly coming back!

Lakefront Lovely

What a fantastic house on the lake. Pictures don't do it justice. The neighborhood is a little tricky to drive through for my Floridian family, but once settled in it was a beautiful, spacious, modern comfortable house. Pool table, solid wifi, standup paddleboards, and a dock that you can fish right off of. Firepit overlooking the dock was great also!

Family lake getaway

House was very well equipped. The driveway was very steep and lots of stairs to the lake as mentioned in the listing. Most beds very very firm and stiff. We did like the king in the lower level the best. The lower level worked out well for movies and billiards Decorations were stylish throuithe while house. We had a great time but would likely rent something different next time.

Great place for our extended family vacation!

We loved our stay at the home! The layout was perfect for our multi-generational family vacation. Everyone had their own space and plenty of room for the kids to spread out and play. The home was very quiet, we remarked several times home well-insulated it must be because sound didn’t carry from the living areas to the bedrooms like we’ve experienced in other houses. Michelle was great to work with. Very prompt communication and attentive to our questions and needs. There were even a few kid surprises (legos and hot wheels) that thrilled our boys! The location was perfect! We had stayed in the same subdivision at a family friend’s home in the past so we were familiar with the area but it never disappoints! So peaceful and gorgeous! We loved the large dock on the water. Perfect for family members to hang out and swim while waiting for skiers to come back in. The road into the house through the development can be a bit confusing so definitely follow Michelle’s directions, not GPS! We highly recommend this property and would definitely stay here again ourselves!

My wife and I have plannef a water vacation trip with our 2 grandchildren for the past 8 years. The location and property we chose is so important on multiple levels. This property exceeded our expectations, both the house and setting. The pictures don't do it justice. We enjoyed the kayaks and paddle boards. We explored the lake and concluded this house is on the best spot on the lake. It is close enough to the busy side, if you want to paddle there, but is quiet and serene. Kayaking at sunset is gorgeous. The house has so many windows with views from almost every room. The kids loved the pool table. The dock feels almost new and the fire pit is awesome. We feel assured that we made special forever memories with our grandchildren. Thank you Michelle for sharing your jewel with us. Your communication was always timely, pleasant and accommodating!

Perfect

This property is perfect. Spacious, clean, comfortable beds. The house is designed well for sound. My toddler and baby would wake up real early and my parents said they couldn’t hear them at all. Nearest grocery is about 10 minutes. We will be coming back. Thank you for a great weekend.

What a pleasure to share Little Hickory with families like Karla's! When we first began hosting, I wasn't sure how we would feel about sharing this special retreat. A little about your hosts. Kirk Vandersall is the founder and Managing Director of an education consulting firm, Arroyo Research Services. Michelle Vruwink is a founder and Director of The Franklin School of Innovation, a public Expeditionary Learning School. We live with our daughter, our 2 dogs, and Michelle's parents on a beautiful sub-rural acreage just outside of Asheville, North Carolina.

We love to run, hike, cook, read, admire and collect local artwork, and explore the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina.

Little Hickory Hideaway is located on one of the quietest coves on Lake Santeetlah, named one of the 12 most beautiful lakes in the United States by Travel and Leisure.

Featuring 3 bedrooms and 3 full baths, a comfortable living room, fantastic pool & game room, two levels of decks for outdoor leisure, a full kitchen and laundry room - we have everything you need for a wonderful family reunion or quiet couple get-away.

Our home is in the Cross Creek neighborhood. It's a little hard to find your way through the neighborhood's windy, mostly one-way streets - but once here, you'll never want to leave!

Quiet, spacious home right on Lake Santeetlah, with private dock, 2 stand-up paddleboards, 2 individual kayaks, an older but functional 2-person kayak, and space to dock a boat for all your water fun. Enjoy the morning sun as it rises over the lake and gaze at stars from the cozy lakefront fire pit. Lake Santeetlah is pristine, amazing for swimming May - September (we even enjoyed a New Year's Polar Plunge - but the water is cold in the winter!), and fantastic for all water sports - paddle boards, kayaks, canoes, jet skis, pontoon boat, ski boat. Enjoy amazing fishing off the dock or paddle out a little farther! Great hiking and outdoor adventures in the area include Appalachian Trail, Nantahala Outdoor Center, Joyce Kilmer Forest, & national forests. Whether you want to retreat to a beautiful quiet sanctuary, or need a home base for all kinds of outdoor adventure - this is your spot!
